As The title says: The New Cannons Arrived.

As the story goes:

Fortress "De Ruyter" wasn't well defended, the pirates knew.

After a fierce battle with the pirates the siege had been lifted, they were safe for now..

When Bjornu came back from his outpost near Fortress "De Ruyter" he found his fathers just created fortress in ruins.

His father taking shelter in the higher area of the Fortress shouted to him:"Come here son, we have to discuss some things about your new station".

Just when his father finished his story about the Battery that should have been placed nearby, an officer knocked on the door shouting; "Sir, Sir The New Cannons Arrived Sir!

The cannons arrived and the battery could be build now, as for the fortress they came to late...

The cannons were supreme to the old ones, but with the smell of defeat this was just the beginning of the coming battle at the Battery of Fortress "De Ruyter"

Well, about the MOC I just did:

I think it's a refreshing model of the existing cannon made by Lego, I made these for my upcoming MOC: "Battery Near Fortress 'De Ruyter' "

It's a simple variant, but I think it's cool!

Enjoy!

Compared with the Lego variant:

I'm here with an Update.

As the story goes:

The Cannons had just arrived but the local carriage maker was told to make new wheels for the just arrived cannons.

After some woodwork the new cannons were ready for battle!

I proudly present the new Cannon:

The new cannon has wheels, with a simple modification I managed to put wheels on the carriage.

Therefor I had to break a spear into two pieces, but I think it was worth it.(other sticks were to long or to small)

I hope you like the Cannon,

Please Comment !

Too bad De Ruyter got destroyed :pir-grin: .

I think it either needs wheels or a recoil mechanism like this (by Captain Blackmoor):

Also I think it would look better with tiles.

Good luck!

I agree with the assement of it needing wheels, and the carriage perhaps looking better with SNOT.

Otherwise, I like it a lot. Very suggestive of a heaver cannon in a fort or something similar.

I agree, I will place flat tiles on top so it looks better :pir-sweet:

As for wheels or a carriage, I disagree in some sort of way:

The official cannons of lego didn't have these wheels or carriages they were mounted on turntables...

Maybe i'll add wheels or something later....

I'll see

Well, most of the ones I remember didn't, but I feel that at least one of two of the ships had wheels on the carriage.

Historically speaking though, that would be the most realistic if you want to do the realistic look, though that's entirely up to you. I personally think gun carriages always look a bit odd without wheels of some sort.

All the same, very good looking as it is :)

The first two official ships had wheels on the cannons, that's the Black Seas Barracuda and the Caribbean Clipper, the barracuda is the only official ship that had cannons on both sides by the way.

Now that I think about it, doesn't the new imperial flagship has wheels attached to the cannons ?

wait a minute, what about the old imperial flagship...

Maybe it's even better to just sum up the ships that didn't have wheels :pir_laugh2:

Basically, only the early ships had them on actual wheels, the rest were either fixed or mounted on turntables (Imperial Flagship, Armada flagship) or mounted on sliding turntables (Redbeard Runner and Skulls Eye Schooner did that, right? My memory seems to fail me) to go from side to side.

Personally, I think that if you want a realistic/"finished" look, that doing wheels on the carriages is usually the way to go, unless you can come up with another way to allow the gun to "recoil" (or at least look like it could).

Turntables (or something like a rotating/sliding action) for fixed fort guns could work, as that was actually done on some of the heavier guns on certain mid-19th century steamships and forts, but as for whether it would look good or appropriate, your mileage may vary.

I'm going to put wheels on the cannon but it won't be easy to do so, the cannon isn't straight therefor I have to cut some lego Poles for the carriage option otherwise the cannon becomes way too big...

But I did some research and I found a cannon without wheels...

Take a look: cannon_howitzer.jpg

So.... How about that cannon then?

Don´t want to spoil the party, but that doesn´t look like an original cannon carriage to me, its way to light.

If you fire that gun the carriage would crumble away.

just look at the hinge, the barrel is not locked to the carriage at all.

there is no way of securing the carriage to what ever survice it was standing on, eye bolt ´s, rings etc.

And its to highly mounted to let the gunman do a proper reload, without using a stair or step up.

so I think this cannon is purely a show piece for the garden that it´s in.

but other then that I do like your gun design, it looks good and solid.

for the wheels I would just connect them at the angle, who cares they don´t ride very well, its Lego! people use you´re imagination a bit.

I think I got a interresting update soon, I almost managed to make it "ride".

Thanks for the support on the picture, I actually was pretty happy I found a picture of an Un-weeled Cannon

Looks great now, solid heavy just like a real fortress gun  . Did you mean to have the gun carriage thinner at the front? It's a nice effect.

I might use a modded version of this design in the future with your permission, of course with credit. :jollyroger:

Yeah that was on purpose, I really like these kind of guns!

You have my permission, credit will do. :pir-grin:

But don't disappoint me. :pir-blush:
