PerryMakes Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 The build for the engine of this train has you "blocking" the two wheel sections (please excuse the lack of correct terminology... I'm super green with regards to trains!) with two red 1x4 plates. Judging by the build of a few other LEGO Trains I've seen, is it fair to assume that I should remove these plates if I'm going to put this train on curved tracks? Seems that the shorter parts of the train can get away with "static" wheels, but past a certain length those wheel sections need the ability to rotate. Again - I apologize for not having the correct wording yet, but I'm working on it. There's a show here in northern IL this weekend, perhaps I'll ask for a few pointers from the old-timers :) Cheers ~ Perry Quote
fred67 Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 The wheels (both sets) on the engine and the passenger car should swivel. The tender should be fine. I haven't build mine yet, but I imagine they put something there to keep the wheels straight for kids playing with it without tracks. If that's the case, I'd be surprised they didn't include instructions for using it on LEGO tracks (even motorizing it). Quote

By the way, has anyone posted pictures of a motorized version (there are no instructions for doing so, and I haven't found pics in old topics)? Where would be the best spot for the IR receiver? I imagine the battery would fit in a modified luggage/coal car. Edited September 9, 2011 by RoxYourBlox Quote
locoworks Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 maybe get the instructions for the 9 volt version would help in motorising?? is the PF motor block the same shape as the 9V block??? Quote
harnbak Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 (edited) Yes - just remove the red plates - these were added for 'trackless' play. I added a 12v-motor which I found very easy. So, everyone, just go 12v ;-) Edited September 10, 2011 by harnbak Quote
