dhc6twinotter Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 What are synchromesh gears?? I believe allanp is referring to these: Having multiple sizes of these gears would be fantastic. Quote
zewy623 Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 Oh so basically just slip gears? I'm not sure what the technical term is but i call them slip gears cause they can slip on the cross-axles. Quote
Cwetqo Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 I see that they changed helicopter box art to show "Ready for Power Functions" instead of "Batteries not included" as on prelim pics. The tractor is really ugly. Bad copy of one from 8049, with same lime panels and too streamlined front. I also dont like the spreader. It looks strange without protevtive ring. They could just as well skip this model, if you ask me. Quote
Matt The Tuba Guy Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 well the crawler looks pretty good. The colours do look a bit weird, but it has plenty of great parts, new motors, more orange and white, and these tyres, which I only have two of. I still think the helicopter is just as awesome, and I wish someone would take some more photos of it! Quote

gmshades Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 Where we can see the tractor ? post #242 around page 17. It's small. Quote
Cwetqo Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 Is saw a little better picture of box in the background of one of the pics where new crawler is in focus. Maybe I will find it again (if its not gone). Quote
tduby Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 while loking at this photo of the crawler I noticed something about the helicopter it looks like the rotor blades have variable pitch blades http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=5363725 Quote

Looking at that picture, all the blades appear to be at the same pitch. This suggests it will at least have collective control. I hope it will have cyclic control too, as collective control by itself is a bit boring. I kind of doubt we will see a rotor assembly with both collective and cyclic control, but I hope I'm wrong. I like those new rotor blades. Quote

Could this be a suspension spring, pneumatic pump, or are my eyes just deceiving me? Quote

timslegos Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 It looks like one of those spring loaded cylinder. It might lower the rear door or something like that. tim Quote
sama Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 It looks like one of those spring loaded cylinder. It might lower the rear door or something like that. tim True, forgot all about those springs. But if there is a gearbox, then how is it going to work with a progressive spring? Quote
Zerobricks Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 Its a Mini linear actuator for lowering landing gear. Quote
Pauger Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 There is definitely mLAs for the landing gear (which is awesome). On the top however, behind the rotor and where the black liftarms are, there is something that looks like a spring. My guess is that the light plays a trick on us... it looks a bit like this piece in black. Quote
tomacwhite Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 There is a new video on http://technicbricks.blogspot.com/ and during the section showing the RC Truck, you can see the B model on the back of the box!!!! Quote
Wiseman_2 Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 That video is very enlightening, glad to see there's a gearbox for switching functions in the chopper. I imagine there are a couple of other functions not shown... I was expecting the door under the winch to open, and it didn't show off any rotor control for the blade angles (I dunno what it's all called, cyclic control or something?). Also, nice to see we get a 32T double bevel gear again, I haven't had a set with one of those since that mini crane from 2007... Quote
Cwetqo Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 You mean this? As I said, tractor is very ugly: Quote
davidmull Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 Apart from its size that helicopter is not very interesting and I don't see any pitch on the main rotor ether, it has to be the crawler for me ;) Quote
Cwetqo Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 Helicopter surely has pitch control. Otherwise, why would those vertical links be there: Quote
RohanBeckett Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 (edited) I just watched the video, in high res, full screen... and there's definitely new main rotor + tail rotor blades (nice safe rubber tips!) The guy didn't demo the main rotor pitch changing, but the mechanism certainly looks big and functional - I would HOPE that those links aren't there for decorative purposes, or just to hold the blade at a set angle.. TLG Technic designers have been doing far too much good stuff lately, to skip such an important function, on such a large model! Note.. I do dislike geared mechanisms that are SLOW to operate.. the rear ramp seemed to take an excessive amount of turning, to move a small distance - other offenders in this category are 8265 and 8294... (oh wait.. that's any Linear Actuator set, without a motor!! ) RB Edited February 10, 2012 by RohanBeckett Quote
