SONIC883 Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 (edited) Hi, here is my first review. More pictures and less words because my english isn't very well. In my childhood I collect VW modelcars in 1/43 scale. I had them all: Polo G40, Corrado VR6 and many busses. My dreamcars are still the T1 Samba and T3 Caravelle Carat. Over the years my collection moved to some boxes and now they are all gone. But now with the Lego T1 Camper Van a good looking model - in a larger scale - came back to my living (room)! I wanted it, but not to the release date. But my wife couldn't wait for it. Now here it is Set Name: VW T1 Camper Van Set Number: 10220 Release year: 2011 Pieces: 1332 Price: 99,99 Euro The Box Really heavy and feels mostly filled The content All the bags are unnumbered. Have I told that I don't linke stickers? Okay, there arn't many. But when they don't glued exactly it doesn't look nice. And this happens often (to me). Sample page from the instructions The Building of the Van The engine: Well designed. Looks like the Prototype The Chassis: The mounting for the flor First Bodyworks: It suggest what a huge model it is Engine Hood First Interieur The Interieur at the first level is finished The Drivers cabine and the mounting of the front More Interieur. I like the T-Shirt With Windows Bodyworks almost finished Mounted Pop Top Last Parts for the front Done! A view thru the open doors. Legos alms - The extra parts My wife was build this model. Her first big Set. It tooks about 5 hours to build. I must say that she is really a Rookie and she made some small breaks. There arn't many tricky passages. Here comment was "That looks so awesome!" and "Thats soooo cool!". So I can say that the model is very good. Summary: Design: 9/10 - Really well designed. Build: 8/10 - Some Sections are a bit tricky like the Pop Top when combining the Top on the mechanism with the fabric in there and some connections have a little stabilize problem. Parts: 8/10 - Don't ask me for speacial parts and colors... I mean that the most parts are very common. Price: 10/10 - IMHO a very good price for a Set with more than 1300 pieces Summary: 35/40 => 88%! I love it! It is a very good looking car and it is very close looking to the prototype. If you are a Bulli-Fan you MUST have it. It isn't a toy (some fragile parts like the roof at the front and the fabric at the Pop Top) - so there isn't any swooshability, biut it is really WOW. I hope that you will have so much fun while building like my wife. Aditional Pics Figures not included in Set 10220! :-P - Kai Edited October 10, 2011 by SONIC883 Indexed! Quote
Nightshroud99 Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 Nice review. This is a set that looks very good, and one I hope to pick up sometime. It was nice to see the build process, that swayed the set more in my favor. Quote

SONIC883 Posted October 2, 2011 Author Posted October 2, 2011 Nice review and pics. So how does the pop top work? It is an easy scissor mechanism. Nothing really special. Works fine Quote
Ogre Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 AWESOME set! Built this on Tuesday and I have to say, I was blown away by how great it was...and I'm not even a VW fan! Quote

alois Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 I was wondering why this camper has Hannover license plates. Or does the H mean something else? Quote
SONIC883 Posted October 2, 2011 Author Posted October 2, 2011 I was wondering why this camper has Hannover license plates. Or does the H mean something else? You are right. H is for Hannover. The Hannover Factory builds Utility vehicles like the Bulli. So the 'home' is there. Quote
weltall1028 Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 Nice review, this set looks pretty sweet. Quote
Vincent Kessels Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 Have I told that I don't linke stickers? So they are stickers. We couldn't tell at the unveiling! Can't wait until mine arrives. Quote

MMR1988 Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 Why there is one of sticker sheets in you box twice?? In my box I found only one :( Max Quote
ablivian Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 I so want this set! An excellent review too - I had wondered about the difficulty of fitting the Camper's roof mechanism to the surrounding material too. Oh well, I had better start saving those pennies! Quote
into the blue Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 Picked this up yesterday from the Lego store in Cardiff. I normally stick to Star Wars kits, but when I saw this I decided I really needed to have it on my shelf. It's a lovely model, and the attention to detail (especially the engine) is just superb. Sonic883, looks like you have one spare part too many. I didn't have that smooth white 1x6 plate left over when I finished. Quote
