But does anybody have a chance to measure the box? I'm planning to pick up this and the Winter Village Post Office when I'm going to London in a couple of weeks, and I'd like to know if there's any chance that they'll fit in my backpack... Box is 48cm x 37cm x 7cm. Have a good trip. Quote

There are some issues with the roof construction in the sense that it's not the most stable design in places. The main example of this is at the very front of the roof where front two curved bricks are only supported by a 2x3 at one end and a 1x3 at the other. While the middle 2x3 is reinforced, the 1x3 on the outside isn't, so it's a bit unstable. Having said that, if you lift it off the model by the sides, it's usually fine so it doesn't cause much of an issue. Quote

I would somehow have expected a more aestethically pleasing model. Interior details and everything-open funcions are nice, but I think could also be better. Yes, I am judging it very harsh; it´s an oficial model, so they should be able to bring out the best of the best. -But I´ve seen better models posted on the net already... But now I can't help but want someone to drive the thing. To those of you who own one, and are also not afraid to admit to owning a Belville figure [if such a combination exists], would one of those fit inside comfortably? I'd prefer to have something officially LEGO driving, and I want to be sure of sizing before I bother with Bricklinking something like this guy. Quote

I don't know if it's too big, but I'd look at Miniland figs. I'd rather have something brick built than that monstrosity you linked. Quote

We were looking forward to build this set and I have not read any review until now as I wanted this set to be a fun and meaningful experience with no spoilers intended. The T1 Camper Van was one of the few selected sets among our collection which we both adore together and heck it, we decided to build this and it was a long four hours experience. The review highlighted the key features and beauty of this set, but what the review did not address is the overall building experience. Personally, for a LEGO Creator Expert set or equivalent, there are quite a number of complex techniques used for the facade, and the front/back of the van. Lots of interesting playability in terms of model aspect. However, we were disappointed especially my wife. She was not impressed because the overall built appeared and felt to be crazily fragile especially on the top roof and side windows, bummer, etc. The design is indeed beautiful, I do not deny that. But I need to be very careful carrying it around, making sure that certain parts don't just drop off. I don't quite exactly sure why it felt this way especially when I have read numerous positive thoughts on this set. I don't deny it is beautiful because of the iconic design, we did not hesitate to buy it. We need to pay much attention to ensure that it don't fall apart. It can't be worse than Ferris Wheel, which I can practically carry it around the house without having any parts dropping off. In this case, I am so mindful of the roof. I felt there is a need to share our building experience. I still like this set. On my part, I have made some slight modifications to reinforce the roof for the time being. Hope it helps. You need to be extremely careful without exerting too little or too much pressure. Quote
champagnedrinker Posted April 21, 2017 Posted April 21, 2017 Only just got & made mine; I love it :) I have a slight worry, though, my pile of spares included 2 4*2 black plates; I'm wondering where I didn't put them ... but not sure I want a total deconstruction to find it! It all *seems* OK & nothing's collapsed yet :) Now I want the Beetle; just a shame they're not the same scale. Oh, and for minifigs, I've got the original Family 200 set on order, so hoping they can fit in. Quote
