WarnerBrothers would not have the best interests of the franchise at heart if they reboot this series within the next two to three decades. The problem is, this series has become a classic (and forgive this analogy but I must use it) much like the Planet of the Apes. Sure it had butt loads of sequels but it did not have a true reboot until recent years, decades AFTER the original versions. I do not see Warner Brothers rebooting this within the next ten to twenty years.

As far as sequels and prequels go; I believe they would be apprehensive to jump the gun on any possibilities; especially given the hugely loyal fanbase that JK Rawling has. If they do anything to upset that woman, WB will loose millions of fans who will allign with JK in any public squabbling over the HP Franchise.

I believe WB would and probably will start putting pressure on JK for prequels about the first wizarding war (i.e. rise of voldemort, ect ect) and this would give Lego the perfect opportunity to prolong this theme.

I just, again, do not see a reboot coming up.

And to edit: I'm buying a second Diagon Alley today for the minifigs and buildings. My son lost some of the pieces and I'm a completist. So I took apart the other set and just rebuying it this afternoon.

You could just get the replacement parts from Lego, it'd be a lot cheaper.

JK Rowling has forbidden WB from creating anything from the Harry Potter universe unless she has written it and she has written off the idea of an animated show before, so there will not be any sort of TV show in the near future, probably not at all.

She has also said multiple times that she will not succumb to pressure from the studio to write more books and that the only reasons she would write more was if she wanted to and she felt that the book would be worth writing. She has said she would never write a garbage prequel book just to satisfy the studio. If she ever writes a prequel book, it would be in the far future, when she has had the time to put into it that she did with the first seven. She has said that she has considered writing more, but right now, it looks like Pottermore is the best we're going to get at the moment.

Are you serious?

Dammit, I'm almost sorry she didn't write Star Wars. :roflmao:

Anyway, just because we don't have news yet doesn't mean it's over. Pirates only has one Exclusive scheduled so far, but it's just as unlikely that's ending too.

She has said that she will not write more because the studio makes her, but she might write more on her own.

Besides, would you want some crap SPEWed out (pun intended) just for the sake of making money. I'd rather have nothing more than what we already have than some forced, halfass sequel line made just for the sake of making money. She's more respectable than that.

Does anybody have any ideas for a hairpiece that I could use for Mcgonagall. Based on Deathly Hallows Part 2? :classic:

The closest, although wrong color would be the Leia hairpiece from the new Hoth Echo Base 7879.

I went ahead and bought another diagon alley. I'm keeping this one sealed in the box.

Even though she has forbidden wb from doing anything and even though she said she would not succumb to pressure to write for the sake of money, I still expect tons of pressure to hit her, especially given the amount of mne this last film has made. I think she sill stick to her guns but I feel sorry for her because ethat pressure is coming if it has not already. Personally, I would love voldermort prequels, no sequels, but I would also love a definitive dictionary that lists all the spells, potions, ect. That would be fun!

Lego has done wonders with these new sets. I missed out on the first round. I still think we have more sets due out, and they still had many characters they could make and release or even rerelease from past sets. I would love a new leftovers or Sirius, but we will need to just wait and see. I have seen nothing from Lego stating this set was going to endso my fingers remained crossed it will continue for a couple more years.

I know. The joke is George Lucas is the exact opposite.

But I think we're getting off-topic now.

2011 has been a fantastic year for this brand. However, i feel lego will release more sets round the time of the second hp game or soon thereafter. I could see rereleases coming back out from prior years. As of right now i feel 2010 was the superior of the two years for this brand given the amount of figures and sets. I wish lego would give us a headsup as to hat is coming up next.

I guess you haven't read this thread lately, because the general consensus is there will be no more HP, so not much of a need for the heads up, unfortunately. I certainly hope that the consensus is incorrect and we will be getting more. But we haven't heard anything so that's probably not a good sign.

2011 was the last year of Lego Harry Potter?

that is what a majority is thinking since there has been no word otherwise

Lego is a business, let us be honest and there could be variables as to why they have not released word on prospective future sets. A couple thoughts would be the idea they are holding back until the release of the second game, more like a surprise to fans while another reason couldbe that warner brothers is still reviewing the sets for approval. I just so not see Lego abandonning a cash cow like harry potter, especially when they have a brand new video game coming out which is following a highly successful film from summer. I could be reaching for twigs here but I just cannot understand the business model of Lego if they are, in fact, abandoning the Harry Potter line.

Well, I'm not convinced HP won't continue next year because "no news" doesn't automatically entail "bad news". I mean the fate of other current lines hasn't been determined yet either (in fact, the only news we have as of now only concern SW, City and Ninjago). I don't think HP, POTC, Pharao's Quest, Kingdoms and Alien Conquest are all doomed just because their (dis-) continuation hasn't been confirmed yet. The videogame on the other hand is not a good sign since Batman and Indiana Jones were both discontinued after the release of the respective game (in case of IJ, the second one). I personally would like to see a few more sets, there are still a lot of places and characters that need to be released as/in lego sets

Well maybe TLG will learn from their mistakes about discontinuing sets just before releasing a video game *cough* Batman *cough*

That's what I was thinking, and plus we heard about Years: 1-4 a couple months prior to the line's resurrection being announced, and the first wave wasn't released for another month or two. Maybe it's the same case here with Years: 5-7 coming out in November, and really, the only themes we have heard anything about are STAR WARS and Super Heroes, plus some CITY rumors. I don't think that we get a decent picture of what is coming until October, so we have some time.

I agree ^^ people are saying that we would of heard by now but we haven't heard much about the other themes so why should we hear about Harry Potter?? I personally think they will release a few more sets for the new game and dvd coming out. :sadnew::grin:

What happened to the Lab and Tolley promotional sets. Did anyone get them or were they never released?? :sceptic:

Hm, I can't help but feel that the CM graduate's mortarboard might be foreshadowing a Slughorn minifig... It wouldn't be the first time (e.g. the musketeer having the same hat as Barbossa or the skateboarder's hairpiece which was used for Ron afterwards) Well, even if HP turns out to be over, at least we get a mortarboard we can use for custom Slughorn minifigs  And the CM series 6 butcher's got a nice hat that could be used for Kingsley...

I wonder what the basis for discontinuing a range is..? Is it money or the amount of external support the line would get (i.e. film or TV series). Star Wars is well catered for having both the Clone Wars and the 3D re-releases over the next few year. But Indy and PoP may not have ended so quickly if the last films were better received. Sadly with Potter there's no more films, the second game will possibly be the last one, and no more books.

It's sad as the range is very well done, but the odds are stacking up against our favourite brick wizard.

I hope I'm wrong though

We will probably have to bid the boy-wizard goodbye this year, in a similar fashion to how we bid Indiana Jones and the Prince of Persia goodbye after their respective movies came out. Disappointing, especially since the Harry Potter lineup was so good this year, but I think it was a proper sendoff. It's not really worth comparing HP to Star Wars, since the longevity of LEGO SW is pretty unique in LEGO. Besides, LEGO has expressed doubts about Harry Potter even before the 2011 wave was released - I doubt they'd bother with the franchise after the final legitimate burst of HP craze dies out.

It's disappointing, but let's be realistic here... HP is over.

I beg to differ. I think TLG will probably release another wave to see if the line can continue. If it's succesful, the line would probably continue. If not, then we can say our goodbyes to the boy wizard. Isn't that what they did with Indy?

I'm sure it has something to do with both. Frankly, it depends on whether merchandise for a franchise can sell. In the case of Star Wars, it's been moving merchandise for years even when there weren't any new movies out. Themes like Indiana Jones, on the other hand, were largely dependent on new movies and so forth to keep them in the spotlight, and thus to keep kids interested in the brand. So I think whether the LEGO Harry Potter theme has staying power depends on whether Harry Potter toys and merchandise in general have staying power.

So far, I haven't heard much about the Harry Potter franchise's future now that all the movies are out, but it's been pretty clear in recent years that Harry Potter is not the multimedia phenomenon it once was... it's really uncertain whether toys and action figures tied to the franchise will be able to stick around successfully. It's possible that in the future, there may be a resurgence in its popularity, if for instance the movies are digitally remastered and released in some special edition version. But it's hard to say for sure if this would be enough to move new HP merchandise and bring back the LEGO theme.
