LDD Driving ring won't mesh

Okay, I have a little problem here. I have LDD Extended, and I want to put on a Driving Ring (http://www.peeron.com/inv/parts/6539) to a "Cross Axle, Extension, 2m" or "Technic Axle Joiner Inline Smooth" (http://www.peeron.com/inv/parts/6538c) but it won't :( any help please! :)

Place the 6539 Driving Ring.

Snap a 6538 Cross Axle, Extension M/3 Ribs into the 6539.

Place any length axle into the 6538.

Remove the 6538.

Place the 59443 Cross Axle, Extension, 2M onto the axle.

It wont be attached, but it will be in the right position.

I think LDD only understands the connection between the driving ring part and the ribbed version of the technic axle joiner, part no 6538 in LDD. Although it fits onto the smooth versions I'm not sure if it supposed to be a legal connection or not.
