Pretty good figures (at least for their time), but as with the Bulls (though to a bit lesser extent), the sets are pretty poor in general.

For all the angry words KKII always gets, I still think it's better than this, it's predecessor.

Thanks for another fine review!

Thanks for another outstanding review SirSven7, it was a pleasure reading, as always :sweet:

I agree with most points you make of course, there was alot of room for improvement regarding the buildings of the whole line.

I still think, in my highly biased opinion ( ), that most people ignore the type of castle 6091/6098 was intended to be.

Forgetting the aesthetical appreciation subjectivity, it's the Castle with most "towers" I remember, and it's possibly the only one that has a huge tower as it's focus, that includes the largest throne room of all Lego Castles (along with top floors, with a place for the Queen and has a lookout for the archers).

The throne room isn't in some wall or side tower, it's the center of the Castle, and it may be weird that it is next to the gate, but with already three levels where the minifigures can go about, another one or inside walls to fix this out of the box was maybe a little too much for the brickcount :sceptic:

Anyway, it all could be alot better, maybe this theme / style would fair alot better nowadays with a higher brickcount and the notion that AFOL are willing to pay a bit more for more design quality :sweet:

Once again, awesome review, can't wait for the next one :sweet:

Your right of course its all just opinion and there is alot to like about 6091/6098 :classic:

I don't actually mind the look of the castle, its quite pretty from a distance and it has a nice size to it, what really bugged me about 6091/6098 was the way almost everything was built in sections (with too many large bricks)and then placed on. I can apericate what they were trying to do but it was one of the dullest castle builds ever.

What I really liked about the set however was the fact that it had a drafty castle feel to it, there was plenty of space and balconies and rooms, this set has the feel of a castle keep.

However IMO it just wasn't designed with AFOL's in mind and you can really tell that when building it

Thanks again everyone the comments are wonderful :sweet:

What I appreciate about KK1 were the new bits – helmets, lion capitals, detailed torso prints. And the more realistic gray color scheme as opposed to black. And the revolving “glass window” piece is neat (though it looks out of place in the joust set).

Its a shame that the theme wasnt fleshed out more, it was just a castle and some weak towers (though still better than what the Bulls got.

I definitely think the theme was better than KK2 or Vikings. I wonder if people would like it more if it wasnt so <insert that tiresome argument>, or if that was the single biggest deal-braker.

Keep it up, SirSven7!

First of all Awesome overview. I am always impressed with the amount of effort you put into these overviews and I always enjoy them. :sweet:

Now, I have to say that I had all of the major sets for this line and I was very happy with them as a child. Now as an adult there are some things that I like about them but, they are kind of boring. I think the main reason for that is it just feels like something is missing like an outer wall for the castle or a castle for the bull knights. Also the floor of the throne room is green instead of white or grey or tan and there is no outer wall with a gate and just a door to the throne room. Those are the major offenders in my opinion of this theme. Now to be fair I would like to point out that Lego was trying to depict a 15th/16th century castle a not a truly medieval castle and that may be the reason behind the design. That being said I wish that Lego had come out with minifigs that matched the cannons and the 16th century design and I probably would have liked it a lot better. A more realistic coat of arms would have helped too. :classic:

Spot on Jack Bricker :classic:

I find myself sometimes wondering about redoing the King Leo's Castle with towers like Kingdoms Joust 10223 or 7946 King's Castle from the current Kingdoms line. Having detailed towers with those beautiful rooftops would make it truly beautiful. Even though making five or 6 towers styled like the ones from 10223 would require alot of bricks :sceptic:

That is indeed spot on, you would do well writing these reviews instead of me :sweet: that image never really clicked with me but now you've pointed it out I can totally see it if the minifigs had been something similar we could have had a historical spin off theme to rival western or ninja sadly thought we don't and we just get this slightly disapointing theme.

Never mind,I'm looking at KK2 now and let me tell you theres some interesting stuff in those sets

Its ganna take me a while to get all the sets though, i'm not sure if I should look at the large bionical type figures as well or not  its a puzzler

King Leo's Castle is Lego's fairy tale castle. Kind of interesting to look at from afar, but...just not the kind of castle that you really want for your knights. :look: Okay, there are definitely some good points, but the number of guards in it is seriously disappointing. I actually think those two bulls may defeat King Leo for good. *huh*
