Darksten watches as his arrow misses when the bear quickly shifts to hug his fellow companions. As the ranger loads another bolt, he sees the rogue indicating that the cat buried in the tree line should be his next target. Darksten hesitates, hating to shift targets, but decides it might be best to widely down the others before going after the quicker bears. He attacks Cheshire Cat A from the back

Round 3 of the Apple Ambush (Battle 4, Play Fair):

Lind Whisperer (Ethereal Deck) retrieves throwing weapons

>Grimwald Gjinko drinks Grand Potion - +25 HP

>Darksten (Crossbow) vs. Cheshire Cat A (Back Row) - SHIELD (Tripleshot - Cheshire Cat A, Cheshire Cat B, Bugbear Healer A: 6+14=20 damage)

Free Hits:

Dryad + Bugbear Healer B vs. Lind Whisperer: 16+7=23-4=19 damage (KO!)

Cheshire Cat B vs. Grimwald Gjinko: 13/2=6 damage

Bugbear Healer A vs. Darksten: 7-2=5 damage

With his comrades busy, Darksten unloads three bolts from his crossbow, but it is not enough to prevent the onslaught of Free Hits, the bugbears in particular proving to be deceptively strong. Lind ends up Knocked Out, with Darksten himself hovering at half health.

Five enemies still remain against the three Heroes. THE BATTLE CONTINUES!

FM Note: I'm terribly sorry; I just realized that, due to Lind having to retrieve his throwing weapons from the Front Row, he was in fact KO'd by the Free Hits. I'll give you guys some time to re-strategize, and my most sincere apologies for not realizing this mistake sooner.

Ooc:

What was Grimwald before he turned Sage? Is he capable of intentional healing?

If so, this might be wasteful of resources, but here's my suggestion for our next actions:

1. Throw a Smoke Bomb, causing us to exit the battle.

2. Grimwald heals myself and Darksten.

3. Grimwald consumes a Tonic, leaving him at almost full ether.

4. We restart the battle.

It does use up a Smoke Bomb and a Tonic, but as opposed to burning through another Phoenix Essence, I think it might be the better choice. I know we'll lose our progress on the battle so far, but if he Revives me, Grimwald is going to get badly pummeled, and Darksten will nearly get killed just by the free hits alone.

Posted

As Darksten shifts targets, the rogue next to him succumbs to wounds previously unseen by the ranger. Despite his covering fire, the party hadn't recovered well from the last round. Now the Sage was dragging the limp rogue towards the tree line with a smoke bomb held in the other hand signaling his intent to depart.

Unwilling to leave the field of battle at first, Darksten kept his crossbow trained on the menacing eyes of the second Cheshire Cat, but could feel the tantalizing vines of the Dryad curl along the ground by his feet. The whisper of bugbear fur against the apple trees filled the void once occupied by his companions, and a soft purring echoed from the darkness of the upper branches. The ranger knew he could not last long without the other heroes protecting his flank.

Carefully moving backwards, the ranger moved towards the path they had previously traversed. He was ready to "tactfully withdraw" when the Sage threw the smoke bomb

Ooc: ok, just let me eat the chicken leg before I get healed.

Posted

Ooc: Okay then.

Party Actions:

Grimwald - Uses Smoke Bomb

Darksten - Consumes Chicken Leg

Grimwald - Heals Party With Ether

Grimwald - Consumes Tonic, Restoring Ether

QM Question: Will my Decks leave the battle with me, or will I need to spend a turn after we restart the battle retrieving them?

Posted

FM Note: I'll need Darksten to tell me directly if he'd like to consume his Chicken Drumstick; the same goes for Grimwald healing you guys.

Regarding your throwing weapons: you'd gathered them up on the turn you were KO'd (it's why you were KO'd, because you can only retrieve throwing weapons from the Front Row), but even if you hadn't it's assumed someone in the party scoops them up for you while they drag you out of battle.

Round 4 of the Apple Ambush (Battle 4, Play Fair):

>Grimwald Gjinko throws Smoke Bomb

In the face of potential defeat, Grimwald chooses to play it safe and drop a Smoke Bomb, the obscuring mist allowing the party to safely flee.

THE BATTLE IS DISCONTINUED!

With the healing vibes of the sages prayer soothing him, and his stomach satisfied by the chicken leg, Darksten was ready to return to the battle

"You'll ready to try again?" He asks his companions.

"I am, but I think this time we should try to have a little bit more strategy than we did last time. For being in the 'easy' section, these enemies rather defy the name.

Here is my plan. Grimwald focuses on casting Sleep on the Dryad and on the Bugbears, keeping them out of the battle. While he focuses on that, we take out the Cats. Next, we take out the Dryad with an occasional additional battering on it from Grimwald, and then we finally all pile on top of the Bugbears together.

We could focus solely on the Bugbears first, but Grimwald would have to spend the whole time keeping the others down, and our attacks are weak enough that if we accidentally let them heal more than once or twice, we could end up spending hours focusing on them, trying to kill them. I think that this way will be the quickest, in the long run."

Lind paused a moment, and reached inside his cloak. "Also, I notice you are out of Potions, Master Grimwald. Here are three basic ones - you're our strongest member, and we can't risk you being KO'd again, if we can help it."

Lind gives Grimwald three of his Potions.

"Unless anyone has a better plan they'd like to suggest, shall we return to the Orchard, while playing fair?"

FM Note: I feel compelled to point out that the Play Fair challenge prevents the Heroes from inflicting effects; this includes Scrolls.

I feel slightly stupid.

I suggest we skip the challenge for this battle - it will cost us a few GP, but I'm afraid that if we can't cast Sleep, we're going to find ourselves in the exact same place we were before.

"I agree with leaving those bears to the end. However, give me the second cat to take on and maybe I can get an indirect shot off at the Bears from time to time.

If we don't want to play fair, I am willing to not get any loot as nothing I saw the enemy holding appealed to me." Darksten says to the crew
