SandMirror38 Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Orthanc has arrived in Australia. Since I'm working both days on the weekend, I expect this to be a long building process. Yay! REALLY???????? WHOOOOOO how much is it? Quote
TheLegoDr Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 I just built Orthanc today. Very beautiful set. I highly recommend it. You don't understand how big it is until you build it. The Ent was bigger than expected too. I would say the 5 hour estimate was pretty accurate. I built it off and on throughout the day, but total 5 hours building seems legitimate. Quote

You're so slow :P I think I built helm's deep in about 45 minutes.... Orthanc has about 800 pieces extra so 5 hours seems extra long....I'd say for any experienced LEGO builder 2 hours tops! unless you drink beer or do stuff with your wife while building haha Quote
Cammo Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 (edited) Dare I say it. I did in very slow pace, making sure all the bricks aligned and faced with the LEGO-logo on the same side. I built the Ent and Tower in 6h30min while listening to all the soundtrack from both the LOTR trilogy & the Hobbit. Edited June 27, 2013 by Cammo Quote

In 2 hours? What an absurd statement. Quote
Alcarin Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 (edited) "Any experienced Lego Builder"? In 2 hours? What an absurd statement. absurd? Sorry but when I build I build to finish... If something is absurd its saying you would ''need'' 5 hours to build 2300 something pieces set... thats absurd... How long did the team of 5 people needed to buidl Eiffel tower on contest? I cannot remember .... If you take so much time thats perfectly fine, but thats still SLOW to me... Edited June 27, 2013 by Alcarin Quote
LegoThomas Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 (edited) For me building isnt about speed. And for Orthanc 2 hours is impossible. But if not, it's inaccurate and no fun at all. A set like Orthanc deserves to be worshipped by building it nicely and neatly. Edited June 27, 2013 by LegoThomas Quote
Hepitos Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 (edited) impossible? you are joking ? i build it with my girlfrend and we did not need 2 hours for it. and we are not fast sort your bricks and then spit in your hands Edited June 27, 2013 by Hepitos Quote
DragonKnights Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 I build my Lego sets faster than you! hahaha Quote
Deathleech Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Building is half the fun for me, so I would rather go slow and enjoy the process longer than rush to finish it. Quote
Fives Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Dare I say it. I did in very slow paced, making sure all the bricks aligned and faced with the LEGO-logo on the same side. I built the Ent and Tower in 6h30min while listening to all the soundtrack from both the LOTR trilogy & the Hobbit. This is the way to do it! Take your time, enjoy the build, and immerse yourself into Middle-Earth! Unfortunately, I don't have the money for the Tower right now, but I'm hoping to get it in the fall. Quote
LegoDad Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 I understand wanting to see the final product, but jeez, savor the build!! That's the point of getting Lego sets. Otherwise, just buy a Fisher Price Orthanc . I fully plan on throwing on the movies, and watching as I build, letting my son help as he wants to, since he generally has the attention span of a guppy. 8BrickMario Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Oh, boy. Building time argument? Really? And started by the leader of the Minas Tirith debate, no less! And, TheLegoDr, another way to understand the size of Orthanc is to go to a LEGO store! Quote

BlueberryWaffles Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Helms Deep took me TWO AND A HALF HOURS to build because I kept getting stupid texts from my friends about Minecraft. ( And speaking of Minecraft, the Micro World took me an hour. It's so darn hard to get all those tiles straight!) Quote
howie28 Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 I have built my Orthanc. Like someone said before, you really don't understand the size until you build it. Amazing set!! Quote

Really? One brick located and placed every 2 seconds? Quote
narbilu Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 any speculation when we can see the first picts/rumors on the (Hobbit/LotR) winter sets? Quote
Alcarin Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 45 minutes? Really? One brick located and placed every 2 seconds? the instructions for these new sets are a joke compared to the old instructions of 90s that i built as a kid.... there you actually need to look good and then build... now its just a factory GRAB, PUT, GRAB, PUT.... I built thousands of sets as a kid (from 5-15) and i was always a fast builder.... It takes me longer to build Black Knights Castle than building Helm's Deep and the piece count is nearly halved ... that says alot how hard the building process used to be... back then it was fun ye... Basteq Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 45 minutes? Really? One brick located and placed every 2 seconds? Are you all 5year old? Don't you have relevant topics? Quote
Alcarin Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 There is still no news of Hobbit sets right? If those end up as disappointing as LOTR (excluding Orthanc) then my wallet will take a massive rest this year :P Quote
Leo604 Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 any speculation when we can see the first picts/rumors on the (Hobbit/LotR) winter sets? I'll throwing for a date sometime in Sept-Oct when promotions for The Desolation of Smaug start to heat up; if we're lucky the sets will start to appear in early-mid December just like last year for An Unexpected Journey. Quote
Eurolock Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 (edited) Are you all 5year old? Don't you have relevant topics? Eh? WTF exactly is your point here in relation to my post?? I was merely highlighting that Alcarin's suggestion of how long it should take to build Helm's deep (and by inference, Orthanc) is entirely unrealistic. I didn't start the discussion around build time... Edited June 28, 2013 by Eurolock Quote
Kez Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 any speculation when we can see the first picts/rumors on the (Hobbit/LotR) winter sets? Im gonna say in a few weeks time when SDCC starts, we could perhaps see a few figures or just one set. Quote
