Dr.Cogg Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 I don't think the Ents will be in this set for price reasons and I think if Lego does make an Ent it will be Treebeard with 2 Hobbits and 1 Orc. Quote
TheLegoDr Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 I concur. I don't think Ents will be in this set because they could make a whole other play set with Ents. My only memorable scene of Orthanc is with the Ents/flood, that's all. I would love many exclusive figures though, but I doubt that will happen. Prove me wrong TLG. Quote
Kez Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 I think that this picture is a rather nice comparison of saruman and count dooku in their new lego figure form (they both have the same face) Quote

KristofBD Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 That Saruman is a truly beautiful minifig... Quote
SteampunkDoc Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 Comparing the two figures, I'd say that TLG kinda messed up Dooku. Having the same heads for the characters is a neat idea in theory, and while it looks great on Saruman, it doesn't look that great for Dooku. The eyebrows are too big for him, and the grin is just..... And to get things back to LOTR, I am super-excited for this upcoming wave. We get an amazing Saruman, a White Gandalf, a Gondor armored Aragorn, Dead Solders, Mouth of Sauron, a PJ Corsair, Ect... Some great locations, and all of them are fantastic looking builds. My only gripes with the wave are these: #1, Why only four? Seriously, why? #2, Why do the Pirate ship? It's a great set, and would be fantastic for a later wave, but with only four sets, and just now Wave #2, this wasn't the best choice that they could have made. (I'd rather a smaller Paths of the Dead set, and saving the biggest set more something more recognizable.) #3, The eagle. 'Nuff said. (The design looks very simplistic, it can't grab people, and I'd much rather it's spot be filled with more minifigures.) Still, with all of my gripes, I still think that this is a fantastic wave. May not get the Ship for price reasons, but the rest are sure purchases. Quote

I dunno if TLG has a set budget each year for each specific theme but maybe it's cause they devoted more time and designers to Chima's pilot wave? Just my guess on that. 2. More playability for kids, I assume. Paths of the Dead would be a bunch of minifigures, the three dudes, and some glow-in-the-dark buildings. 3. No opinion on that. Quote
TheDarkness Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 1. I think the reason why there was only 4 sets was due to the Hobbit sets also being released. There were 6 Hobbit sets released late last year but this year's releases are all screwed up due to Peter Jackson stretching the movies into a trilogy. There are currently 7 LOTR sets out, and you would think barring Helm's Deep (which I believe is about to be discontinued) that the rest will be around for a little while longer this year, giving us 16 "Middle Earth" sets. That isn't too shabby. Who knows if we will get another Hobbit wave this year or whether Lego will release another batch close to the release of the third movie. Plenty of LOTR to go round. 2. As for the Pirate ship, well ships sell well and it brings in a fan base not necessarily into LOTR. Plenty of ship enthusiasts are excited by it, and as mentioned, kids love them. 3. Yes the eagle is disappointing. With Lego keeping it this size though they can use it for other themes as it isn't too too big. Quote
Deathleech Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 Also don't forget the Orthanc set, so really its 5 LotR sets (unless thats some huge hoax, but I doubt it will all the confirming sources). That's not bad considering 2 of them are at or over the $100 mark. Now granted I would rather get 6 sets and have more little ones than get 5 and have 2 huge ones, but meh.. it's better than nothing. The Legonater Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 Frankly, with the fantastic Star Wars sets, Orthanc, and the Iron Man 3 stuff, I'm glad there's only four regular sets. Quote

Saruman and Dooku's shared head is double sided with a scowl so dooku doesn't have to have the grin although he has grinned like that before. Both figures look wonderful and the dooku is the most accurate and brilliantly detailed dooku we have ever recieved. Be thankful lego even decided to give us a prequel flesh dooku. All the sets of lotr this year look awesome and i'll pick up all four and hopefully if it comes out orthanc too!!! Quote
WEREWOLF Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 just want to add how Helm's Deep is very popular in the USA or in the stores in California going as low as $100 USD to $160 USD the only sets from the 1st wave of LOTR that are not doing so great are "Attack on Weathertop" and "Mines of Moria" and this year (2013) Shelob Attack is falling. still "The Hobbit" sets are doing well and cant find none of them on clearance which is a good sign and this years wave of LOTR and The Hobbit will be popular! KyleJohnson11 Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 the only sets from the 1st wave of LOTR that are not doing so great are "Attack on Weathertop" and "Mines of Moria" and this year (2013) Shelob Attack is falling. I was just thinking to myself tonight. "Man I need 3 more Weathertop sets to polish off my Ringwraiths and a few more Mines of Moria for more Moria Orcs" :) Quote

Lord Rahl of Clannad Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 Who knows if we will get another Hobbit wave this year or whether Lego will release another batch close to the release of the third movie. I'm pretty sure that the New York Toy Fair showed a poster that stated that there would be more Hobbit sets in December this year. It will be interesting to see when TLG release the There & Back Again sets now that the movie has been moved 6 months forwards. Quote

Darth Caedus Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 (edited) Lego thankfully has enough lead time to shift TABA sets to Dec. 2014 and produce something to fill the summer gap - I would not be surprised if it's only a couple LOTR sets, but another wave of 4 would be more than satisfactory. A Gondorian battlepack would be the be-all end-all of reality, but Eowyn vs the Witchking with an affordable fellbeast would be suitable. As long as it's not just more Gimlis, Frodos and hairless 'mordor orcs.' Edited March 16, 2013 by Darth Caedus Quote
Shroffy123 Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 Due to the June release, does anyone think we'll start seeing these next month? I remember picking up the Hobbit sets in early November. Quote
Leo604 Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 I wouldn't say April, that would be really pushing it; maybe mid-late May. Quote
Shroffy123 Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 I having a feeling about April - especially in the NW Quote
Deathleech Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 (edited) Ehh, last year they had a June release and the first sightings were early May so I have a hard time seeing April this year happening Edited March 18, 2013 by Deathleech Quote

CorneliusMurdock Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 Not sure if anyone has posted this but my copy of Unexpected Journey just came from Target. His front had a dirt smudge on it I'm guessing from being packaged. I didn't notice it until after I took the picture (I've removed most of it in editing). The dirt rubbed right off so it's okay now. CMP Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 That's pretty cool. As soon as I figure out whether or not my computer can play Blu-ray I'll consider picking it up. It's a really nice variant. Quote
