I don't know, it just feels rude to reduce characters to "there really is little functional difference between (them)" It feels like stripping them of personalities and adventures to be turned into simple elements of plot. That or it sounds like a claim that they are interchangeable and thus unimportant. I mean I don't know about Carpenter, but Anya has led multiple books, both as Arana and as Spider-Girl, along with tie-ins and a team book, not to mention cameos and guest appearances. Not to mention she is only ten years old as a property this year. She isn't A-List, but she seems to have a voice. But the reason I didn't reply to your suggestion that she could appear in Agents of SHIELD is that I kind of don't want her there. No offense to the show and especially its fans, but I do not think I trust her with the show's writers. They haven't so far adapted many characters well, and she is apparently a hard character for writers to get. I just don't have confidence in them. And while not every Marvel film is perfect, they tend to be better than AoS episodes, so I would want her there. But really that could be asking too much.

I've been avoiding this topic a lot for the past week to keep out of the way of Cap 2 spoilers, but this AoS episode was very intense. It definitely feels like they're leading up to the events of Cap 2.

Also, was there a stinger for the episode? On my network it didn't show one.

This was by far THE BEST AoS Episode of the shows entire run. They finally stopped trying to recreate an '80's action show ala Knightrider and went full Marvel Universe Jack Bower. Full supporting cast. Helicarrier, virtually every named SHIELD agent we have met sans Hawkeye, Black Widow, Maria Hill and Fury himself. Tactical action, reveals, a real named and identified comic book villain looking closer and closer to his traditional look. Tension, conspiracies, betrayals, twists and turns.

Did they fire the old writing staff and bring in new without telling us? This felt like a Wheedon show firing on all cylinders.

That was an amazing episode. Love this show now! I mean already did, but now I like it even more!

I didn't see one either. Then again, I watched it online.

I don't think that was the helicarrier, was it? Just looked like an aircraft carrier to me. It seemed a little small.

There was a clip from Captain America 2.

Yeah just heard. I guess that's where Fury was when he was supposed to talk to Coulson.

Also, I don't know if May was working for the clairvoyant but I think she may be working for Victoria Hand. Hence why she turned the plane around once they found out about May. Hand is probably working with the real clairvoyant and got May to work for her by lying to her or something.

After the Captain America clip there was a teaser for next week. Basically "Trust No One! Everything has changed!" I think I saw a bit with the Black Shield Scientist lady from the Science Academy (or whatever it was called) under attack and warning Coulsons team.

I think I have figured out both who the Clairvoyant is and who May has been reporting to. But if I am correct in both it will be mildly annoying as it pulls way more from the movies than from episodes.

I am thinking that the Clairvoyant isn't a SHIELD Agent or leader. It's the SHIELD computer system itself. Or an AI with access to it. So possibly either something tying in to Ultron? or Arnim Zola? (I can'tr see them going with something real obscure like Machinesmith). I think the guy in the wheelchair was supposed to be misdirection to make us think of MODOK. As far as who May is reporting to? If the rumors are true, and Coulson's team was designed by Fury to be off grid, out of the loop and independent of SHIELD itself, one of his special operative groups, then we know of one or two other such special operatives. Namely Agents Romanov and Barton. Part of me thinks that May is reporting to either Widow or maybe Maria Hill?

About the only thing in the episode that felt a little cheesy or "low budget" was the prosthetic work on Deathlok. I swear he had more neon and pointless lighting on him than a 92 Honda in the Hood. Although I had a small nerdgasm when Skye looked at him through the SHIELD magic technoxrayvision and we saw underneath his skin... DEATHLOK! The real classic Deathlok.

Oh and did anybody else catch the reference to the Canadian Department H  (Not that they could really effectively use that one well given that Fox has rights to the Big W, and probably most of Alpha Flight. Although I hold out hope that we might see one or two at some point. Puck would work well. Somebody call Peter Dinklage!)

Agreed. The moment when the SHIELD agents walked on and began planning had me thinking 'these are the Agents of SHIELD. This is the show we've been waiting for.' I really hope we see more of this full team in the future, the chemistry worked a lot better between them than the main team in the early episodes.

As for the Canadian department, my first thought was Weapon X, but Alpha Flight is probably more on the money.

Well both CA:TWS and this episode made my so happy.

Sitwell being called back was great.

Blake was awesome, I want more of him.

I reckon Hand id part of HYDRA.

A reference to Project X - how's that work with Fox?

Before Fitz finds the line, Jemma says the situation room is filling up, could this be the SHEILD civil war thing from near the end of CA:TWS?

Coulson needs to meat with Fury at some point, however he's gone off grid. Will Hill take over as Director now? How much does she know about Fury's project?

I don't believe that was the Clairvoyant for a second.

I also think May is a red herring, possibly working for Fury or Hill.

Still need some explanation of where the hell Barton is.

Hand is played by Saffron Burrows, her English accent keeps slipping through .

Also there is no Milton Keynes prison, it should have read HMP Woodhill, Milton Keynes, also we don't routinely keep union flags around to remind us what country we are in .

So that explains where Coulson was during in CA:TWS.

Foreshadowing of Ultron, or just HYDRA?

What is it with Fitz's random American pronunciations of Aeroplane, via, and data .

I agree with the general consensus-the latest episode of Marvel's Agents of SHIELD was fantastic. I do find it questionable that...

the question of Deathlok's whereabouts was dropped after the team "found" the Clairvoyant.

Also, the stinger of the clip/preview from the Captain America: The Winter Soldier was really tacky. Sure, it gives context for Fury's disappearance the past two episodes, but come a year from now, this will be just like the stinger from Captain America: The First Avenger-utterly pointless.

I did see a stinger for the next episode. Nothing major, mostly just action scenes.

It was a good episode. Didn't connect the dots with Fury there though. I've got tickets for Saturday, CANNOT WAIT!!!

Captain America 2 was SO GOOD!!! Loved the post credits scene!! Although

I wonder what they're going to do with Loki's sceptre? Try and bring back red skull using it?? Also, anyone think we'll see Zola get his head in a body? Pierce did say something like "Zola's gone." They also mentioned Dr. Strange twice in this movie!!

I'm surprise Marvel has movies lined up till 2028, surely by then they will have had to do a reboot or reset on the timeline.

Deathlok looks cheap. The TV budget isn't doing them favors in villain visual designs or special effects. It all looks pretty bad.

I'm going to have to disagree with you there. I do think that Deathlok's design is mediocre at best, but the special effects of the show are great. All the shots of the plane flying (which, by the way, are not the same for every episode) are pretty seamless.

I agree, I think he looks pretty good. Especially when we saw that xray of him. I think his costume is kinda lame but all well.

I've been under the assumption that it's one of the infinity gems (most likely mind). Granted that doesn't fully explain why HYDRA has it, or indeed why Thanos agreed to give Loki it.

Well the tesseract is one so I just thought the sceptre used the power of the tesseract. Idk if the blue power/orb thing in the sceptre is necessarily one but you bring up a good point about it maybe being the mind one because of it's mind control. Maybe they somehow were using the power of it to try and give people superpowers, hence why they were talking about scarlet witch and quicksilver being the only ones who survived the process of getting powers.

Also, is it possible the Clairvoyant is Arnim Zola and his algorithm that can predict things? I don't think it's likely, unless they literally have Arnim Zola take form in a body (which would require Toby Jones, someone the show probably can't afford)

How long until we don't have to use spoiler tags?

I thought Winter Soldier was pretty good. I don't think it was as good as people are saying though. I mean my complaint with Captain America is we HEAR about his struggles with being from another time. We see them mentioned like with his book that said stuff like "Watch Star Wars" in it. But we don't really SEE his struggles. I know it's probably because it's a movie and there's not much time but still... the best we get is him seeing his old almost-girlfriend and looking at his book.

While the Winter Soldier was one of the better Villains in a Marvel movie he's still nowhere near Loki and I feel like he's more of a prop for Captain America than an actual character just because he barely says anything in the movie and barely has any character beyond "mah mission!".

Still I'd give it an 8/10. I think Iron Man 1 and Avengers are still better. And while the Thor movies aren't amazing they have Loki.

In terms of Agents of SHIELD I wonder where they'll go. Maybe SHIELD won't be completely disbanded. I can't imagine it staying dead. Hydra might have been in it but it seems like a small % were Hydra.

And now that all of SHIELD's secrets are out... does that include technology? Does that include the alien stuff Coulson was involved in? Or the details on Skye? I hope the secrets kind of get spilled because the series has been pretty slow :p.

And if all the secrets are spilled does everyone know Coulson is alive now?

I think TWS shows Cap dealing with the changes pretty well, better than The Avengers did (where it was only used as a punchline to a joke) and much better than AoS did with Coulson being supposedly "different" after his death. But you're right-while a lot more of that might be distracting, a little more wouldn't hurt.

My guess is that not all of the secrets were spilled-Widow is only Level 6 (Pierce says this when he orders the manhunt on both her and Cap, who is also Level 6). Fury, on the other hand is 8 and Coulson is 7, so would Widow even have had clearance to those secrets to publish them?

This is reinforced by the conversation between Cap and Fury in the beginning, where Fury says no one can spill all the secrets because no one has them all, and Cap responds that only Fury does.

Bottom line: SHIELD (or whats left of it) still has a lot of secrets, including Fury's fake death and Coulson's resurrection, and possibly some of the AoS stuff, as well. I bet we haven't seen the last of SHIELD.

I really adored CA:TWS! It had the right amount of action and character development all the way through, and I loved the serious tone. A!

Wow, it really was good. This is going to be the first movie I've bought in a LONG time.

Someone was saying that.

Red Skull was going to show up in the movie. Now directly he didn't but Hydra did.
