highlandcattle Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 Since I saw the Castle 2007 pictures I've been on a castle trip. And I wanted to buy the smallest viking set (no way I'm buying KK2 sets). It took me seven shops to find the "Viking vs fenrir" set , some shops did have other viking sets but not an awfull lot. Now you might say that it's because stock han't been refilled after the hollidays. But as most shops already have a full range of new products and refilled their Star wars and City stock, I wonder why I can't find any of the viking sets anywhere? Quote
Minifig Lecturer Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 I think the moral of this story is that if you like a subtheme a lot go out and buy up as much of the sets as you can because TLC kills off and creates new subthemes as frequently as I change my underwear* :-| * no funny remarks |-/ Quote
Vader Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 Its a sad thing to say but it looks like the vikings have had their day :'-( , lego didnt really do to many sets last year and for now theres no plans to give us any more sets. Though you never know they may once again reappear like many other lines have over the years. Quote

natelite Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 well, i got every set except for the double catapult vs armored ofnir dragon. and the viking chess set. pretty good line. i'll probably roll the dragons with the arch wizard from the new castle line. make a lich mf and have it rule the new skeleton army. that way i will have 4 factions to my medieval theme collection: vikings, lich/undead, dragons/sorcerors, and the good guy knights and swordsmen. it will be kinda like warcraft except that instead of orcs/taurens, i'll have vikings. and instead of night elves i'll have dragons. :-P what do you think? xwingyoda Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 One thing that annoys me with TLC is that nowadays (apart for themes like City and SW mainly), themes come and go in like a year :-| At least during my childhood, they were staying way longer !! I am reffering here to real themes and not simply to a short sub-theme ;-) I am disappointed because that Viking theme was really excellent !! The first wave had only great set: the longboat is one of the best ships ever produced by TLC IMO, the small one was neat also !! It had so many great accessories 8- Quote
mutley777 Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 Well the full line of vikings is still avilable on shop@home if there are any sets you are missing. I only have 2 viking sets, the long ship and the fortress and both are still MISB. I got both of the very cheap about Quote
SWMAN Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 I think viking is dying. When it was first released that it was coming out, people were excited. But, when they discovered the Vikings only fought big technic monsters, they weren't as excited. Quote
JoeMI6 Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 I wouldn't give up the ghost yet. I think this may be the opinion because all the other set information has come astonishingly early this year. I'd be sad to see the death of it though, it's a cool theme. Quote
Vader Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 Well a few sets have disapeared for a year or so then come back much like the alpha team line, the problem with the viking line is the fact that theirs not that much you can do with them theme wise. Giving the vikings bionicle monsters to fight was ok but it really lacked something for me and i too believe that this contributed to the lack of new sets. Quote
Athos Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 That's too bad they aren't making any more. Vikings were the highlight of the Lego themes, outshining many of the others from several years past... :'-( Steve Quote
highlandcattle Posted January 19, 2007 Author Posted January 19, 2007 Well, this was nearly twenty years before TLC Quote
Hinckley Posted January 20, 2007 Posted January 20, 2007 This is only speculation that the VIking line is ending. Let me speculate in a different direction: The Viking line was originally supposed to be Europe only, perhaps even Denmark only if I'm recalling correctly. Then the buzz generated was so huge they sold it everywhere, but only through LEGO Shop at Home and Toys R Us. At the time I was trying to set myself up as a LEGO retailer. That was really frustrating and it didn't work out, but that's a different story. When I was talking to the regional sales rep I told her I was excited about the Vikings line and she said that it wasn't available to independent retailers that it was only being sold through LEGO. This is probably why it is hard to find it in the shops. Granted, if you check the LEGO US website, Fenris is gone, 7017 (catapult and Nidhogg dragon) is sold out but they are accepting backorders on the ship and the other sets are all in stock. I sincerely hope this line will continue because it is awesome! I'm not sure what else they can make but maybe there will be a new ship and fortress in our near future... Quote
Sir Dillon Posted January 20, 2007 Posted January 20, 2007 I hope the line isn't over yet. Vikings are easily my favorite current line, and it be sad to see them end so soon. :-/ Quote

Norrington Posted January 20, 2007 Posted January 20, 2007 Is LEGO going to become fast-food? :-/ Doubt it. Legos as far as i'm concened arn't food, and it'll probably cut the insde of your throat on the way down... Then digesting it and makng the by-product of digeston woulb be a whole dfferent thing... :-P Quote
Asuka Posted January 20, 2007 Posted January 20, 2007 ... would be a whole different thing... :-P Ouch! X-D Yeah.... Vikings on the way out.... (just to be almost exactly on-topic....) Quote
Asuka Posted January 20, 2007 Posted January 20, 2007 ....because they are FORCED to do so by TLC. I don Quote
Asuka Posted January 20, 2007 Posted January 20, 2007 This is a lot of money for a small shop.... Especially for the comprising of minor interesting sets.... New Vikings.... This would be very interesting! :-) Quote
Minifig Lecturer Posted January 20, 2007 Posted January 20, 2007 If there were a new Viking theme it would give TLC a chance to make more realistic sets, i.e. no stupid dragons and no stupid horns in their helmets :-D Quote
BearHeart Posted January 20, 2007 Posted January 20, 2007 Here in Canada, LEGO Vikings are exclusively sold in TRU, you can't get them in any other store. I was there a few days ago and they still had every set in stock (and a lot of them including about 6 or 7 viking fortresses). I also noticed that there were a lot copies of the 2 recent sets that were released in 2006 (possibly not selling well?). Vikings was a great reintroduction into the dark age/medieval theme for LEGO. However, I think that the way LEGO approached the line is why it lasted for so such a short period of time. There was too much Bionicle/Technic influence in the theme not only with the monsters but also with some of the machines and weapons. You can only make so many sets with Bionicle monsters and weapons to fight them with before it gets boring and repetative. Of course there were also a lot of good aspects about the theme, mainly with the minifigs, which seemed the carry over into the upcoming Castle theme (like the minifig torsos). Im much happier to see the new Castle line come out rather than possibly having more viking sets and no new Castle theme. The best case senario for me would be to have the vikings reintroduced in a new light into the new line as another faction in the Castle line. Quote
