Eigenbroetler Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 (edited) Well, i have read, and watched the images and clips. i will be getting all trucks, thatwould be monster truck, crane truck and service truck! Edited January 31, 2013 by Eigenbroetler Quote
davidmull Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 (edited) Oh well, looks like I won't be spending any more money on technic this year afterall. Anyone can use a record number of parts at a higher cost to the customer to create unrealistic mechanisms. This is why they look like noobish MOCs to me. And why is everyone so pre-occupied with the size of the crane anyway? "ooooooh it's so long!" (EDIT: didn't mean it to sound like that guys! ) but so what?! The helicopter from 8277 was probably the largest helicopter they ever made and also the most crap! Mmm I kind of have to agree with u, yes ill probably buy them but i wasn't wowed by the crane, I have a new 8421,do I really want the new one or will I just get it for my traditional flagship buy every year! Probably the latter! Some say this might be the best flagship ever,I really doubt that, I wasn't very impressed with last years crawler but I'm disappointed to say i was more excited than i am now after seeing that video. It will be hard to better 8110 in my opinion for recent flagships, I'm probably more excited about 42008 this year even tho mixing la,s with pneumatics it odd. Allan tell the truth when u seen first image of 42008 u where so happy when u seen that pneumatic sign on the box! Then when u seen the new pictures with that lovely big grey LA ur heart sunk just like mine :) Anyway rant over ill buy 42008 in August and 42009 for Christmas I'd say to build Christmas evening :) Just a note on the crane it has only 1 la for the boom, was sure it would have 2, also on the tow truck it's a nice idea when u lower the boom the rear stabilisers lift up themselves. For some reason I think I'm more excited about building jurgens PF backhoe in a few weeks :) Edited January 31, 2013 by davidmull Quote
Balrog Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 I am really eager to get the crane truck. Not only because it is big, but to enhance my parts collection, which is still too small (though it is already bigger than my old technic collection. and just through 2 sets). The only thing I really dislike about the crane truck is, that the super structure seems to be also super wobbly. But perhaps that is just in the preliminary model. Perhaps I'll also get the new tow truck. I find the combination of pneumatics and LA very intriguing. Anyone can have his own opinion, but I think they combined the best of both worlds there. Quote
shadowhearth Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 I am really really disappointed by Monster truck. :( I really need to see crane price, before i will make my decision on it. I might as well skip on it compeltely and try finding unimog. Unimog maybe smaller, but looks like a lot more fun. Quote

Unimog is a top model and very big go for it,one of the best flagships in years along with 8043 :)I'm not bothered about the monster truck it's small and baby for kids :) Edited January 31, 2013 by davidmull Quote

Technic Gearhead Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 What about the small orange set for 2013 - any news on that one? I am hoping for some new orange bits. To the folks who are not excited about the new sets - what in the world were you expecting? I guess save your money and buy the 'real good' studded construction vintage sets. Quote
allanp Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 To the folks who are not excited about the new sets - what in the world were you expecting? Um, something worth buying would be nice Quote

Paul Boratko Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 (edited) One thing that I've noticed with all of the 2013 sets(including first half sets) is that none of them are using flexible axles... Some have the flex tubing, but no axles.. I Wonder if Lego is doing away with them for various reasons or if it was just a coincidence that there just wasn't any need for them... Kumbbl Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 Yup, go for the unimog. completey disagree - i never understood the hype of the unimog... besides the parts count it is only a good model but not a very good...reasons: - the unimof itself is good but this flimsy and tottery pneumatic crane is really a shame - 8868 has shown much better how to build a playable pneumatic crane - the unimog has a bad balance and always hangs down on one side because the suspension is too soft... - the steering lock is really a bad bad bad design - of course you can simply make it better but out of the box it is crap Overall IMHO the unimog is overhyped and therefore this new moble crane looks more promising in useabilty... Just my 2 cents Quote
Zerobricks Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 (edited) The tow truck uses 2 small cylinders, one to tilt the ttow thing and the other one to extends it. Anyone notice the red gears where the crane's outrigger axles slide? They seem to be the new 8 tooth gears? Dont they have friction? Edited January 31, 2013 by Zblj Quote
750ACE Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 Um, something worth buying would be nice Please build us a moc worth purchasing. It looks like lego is doing well this round for the global market. Not every set can be perfect or meet all requested demands. That is why it is good to modify sets to your own taste. What did you think lego was going to produce or release? Quote

The new 'regular' 8-tooth gears are tan, these new red ones are assumed to be the frictionless versions. Quote

Just my 2 cents Oh please! , the unimog was one of the best sets in years, everyone agrees to that! Everything about it is great. I forgot to ask is the turret structure motorised or manual on 42009 guys? The tow truck uses 2 small cylinders, one to tilt the ttow thing and the other one to extends it. Anyone notice the red gears where the crane's outrigger axles slide? They seem to be the new 8 tooth gears? Dont they have friction? So no large pneumatic cylinder :(? Quote

If you can analyse the heart of the Unimog, you will see that it is faaaaar from being well optimised. But still a good model. :p edit : @ zblj : yep, you are right. davidmull Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 Manuel. I don't think we have any longer rams. Very disappointing, it was the only let down on 8421 too, I wonder guys is there anything hiding under that grey panel between the turret and the cab? Quote

Just my 2 cents Well the reason I personally hail the unimog as possibly he greatest technic set ever made is bacause it has unrivaled authenticity. From the live axles to the 4wd to the portal hubs to the suspention to the way the arm is powered by building up pressure inside a cylinder via a compressor and tubing it's about as close to owning the real thing as it gets. I agree that it has bad balance and the steering was not very good but it has way more good points than bad IMHO. Would have been better if the stabilisers were pneumatic and the arm folded up fully, to keep strength they are gonna have to release longer pneumatics for that . Quote

jantjeuh Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 I wonder guys is there anything hiding under that grey panel between the turret and the cab? Look at the video: the grey panel is simply part of the superstructure, and the long pins are used to mount the superstructure to the chassis, similar to 8053. Quote

jantjeuh Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 (edited) By the way, any Germans around to translate what the German presenter is saying when handling the crane? I can understand some of it, but not all. Edited January 31, 2013 by jantjeuh Quote
