davidmull Posted January 26, 2013 Posted January 26, 2013 The picture clearly showed a PF battery box and PF Medium motor and there was no reference to Pneumatics, I could be wrong and will happily eat humble pie, but I think everyone is going to be disappointed. If u seen to catalogue could u not tell for sure? Very strange as the price reflects its a pneumatic set! Quote
Technic Gearhead Posted January 26, 2013 Posted January 26, 2013 The good news is that the big Crane has more LA's than we originally though if it has small ones on the stabilizers. I'm really pulling for the pneumatics, David! Quote

Paul202 Posted January 26, 2013 Posted January 26, 2013 I don't know if someone already found this, but there are low-res pics here: http://www.setechnic.com/Forum/post119452.html#p119452 Quote
dokludi Posted January 26, 2013 Posted January 26, 2013 Dokludi should have something for us by next Friday then? Ok. Half ready the chassis. I wait for new pictures yet. Quote
andythenorth Posted January 26, 2013 Posted January 26, 2013 (edited) The thumbnail for the service truck clearly has the pneumatic logo bottom left. http://img15.hosting...34044442008.jpg Compare it to: http://thelegocarblog.files.wordpress.com/2011/12/8110-1.jpg Doesn't mean anything, could just be a mistake in preliminary box art. Or alternatively the retailers catalogue could be wrong. Edited January 26, 2013 by andythenorth Quote

What's everyone else's taughts on this? Quote
Rishab N Posted January 26, 2013 Posted January 26, 2013 maybe lego put the pneumatic logo on the thumbnail just to mess with us Quote
Interceptor Posted January 26, 2013 Posted January 26, 2013 maybe lego put the pneumatic logo on the thumbnail just to mess with us This can be true but a lot of people will be disappointed with this. Agree on that for 120 EUR it should have pneumatics. Good news regarding the crane truck at least. The stabilazing mechanism can be really interesting. Quote
davidmull Posted January 26, 2013 Posted January 26, 2013 (edited) maybe lego put the pneumatic logo on the thumbnail just to mess with us They don't normally. Has anyone the first blurry image of the unimog to compare? Edited January 26, 2013 by davidmull Quote

davidmull Posted January 26, 2013 Posted January 26, 2013 (edited) http://www.setechnic.com/Forum/post72709.html#p72709 Thanks anio, this confirms the same blurry image so for a cylinder with pneumatic under it ;) I'm confused :( lego wouldn't put that symbol on the box for no reason! I think Paul has his wires crossed :) Lets hope so.... I would be a shame for it not to have pneumatics. Quote
Pauger Posted January 26, 2013 Posted January 26, 2013 the stabilisers are the interesting part, they appear to extend by what might be a new part (new axle) as in the picture it looked to be made out of a 3D manufactured part possibly indicating the new mold is not ready? The 4 stabilisers then have at the end of each of them, a mini linear actuator pointing vertically downwards which is driven by this new looking axle. I'm not convinced this solution will have the strength to lift a couple of Kg of crane off the ground, but it certainly looks realistic. So you are pretty much sure that the LA's are operated from inside the chassis? Does this mean some kind of extending axle? If so: That's AWESOME Quote

If so: That's AWESOME Yes, the 4 stabilisers telescope to lift the vehicle off the ground, these are activated from within the body of the vehicle, driven by this axle which was white, could just be a 3D rapid prototype part whilst the new part is being made, it drove the usual tan small flat cog to the mini linear actuators, I've no idea how it works internally, there was then a black beam about 2 studs lower in parallel with the axle which looks like how it slides in and out, hard to explain. There was also 2 large Linear Actuators side by side which raise and lower the boom, Regarding the recovery truck, too hope I'm wrong, but the catalogue image was approx. 20cm wide by 10cm tall, it was a very clear image. Hopefully they have just hidden the pneumatics in the body of the truck. Paul Edited January 26, 2013 by paul_delahaye Quote
Technic Gearhead Posted January 26, 2013 Posted January 26, 2013 What did you not like about the appearance of the Crane set? Were you able to see if the boom used some yellow Technic bricks mixed in with the studless liftarms? Is the Crane mostly yellow or is the chassis black? Quote
davidmull Posted January 26, 2013 Posted January 26, 2013 Paul was the image of the green truck just the truck or was it a pic of the box too? Also had the truck a wheel lift and a winch crane? Quote

It may be a long one of these (with a normal axle connector). These could slide on a normal axle, and you get a telescopic axle. Wish I had that when I made these: Edit: That means we have to reimagine how the gearbox on this. 5 outputs at least. Edited January 26, 2013 by Pauger Quote

Also had the truck a wheel lift and a winch crane? It was a picture of the truck (not the box) but along side the picture it clearly showed the set has a PF battery box and a medium motor, it struck me this is where they would advertise the fact it had pneumatics normally, and the yellow thing which I original thought was a pneumatic cylinder looked suspiciously like the hard shock absorber from this years motor bike. What did you not like about the appearance of the Crane set? Were you able to see if the boom used some yellow Technic bricks mixed in with the studless liftarms? Is the Crane mostly yellow or is the chassis black? It is fine, I love construction vehicles, so it's a must buy for me, but it just looked plain, almost like it had too many wheels. Technically I'm sure it will be superb, but 8421 might still hold a fond place with me. If anything, the stabilisers looked a little flimsy for such a large vehicle. I'm sorry, I don't recall the boom in much detail, I recall the 2 large linear actuators connected to the boom via light bley cams, and there were big regular wheel hubs for the string to roll around at the end of the jib. Strange how you only remember certain parts. Paul Edited January 26, 2013 by paul_delahaye Quote
davidmull Posted January 26, 2013 Posted January 26, 2013 It must be hard remember all the details, maybe the yellow part want a mini cylinder :) Ill be very dissapointed if its just on gears but I just can't understand why such a high price! Quote
merman Posted January 26, 2013 Posted January 26, 2013 How many wheels of the Crane can steer and does it have a fake engine block? Quote
davidmull Posted January 26, 2013 Posted January 26, 2013 Looks like 4 axles steer, with just 2 steering it would leave pressure on the 3 center axles but I could be wrong. Quote

AVCampos Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 (edited) If I were a betting person, I'd bet that the 42008 indeed has pneumatics. Even if not, it's still a great parts pack for the unusual green colour! Also, judging by the green panels on the sides topped by red micro panels in a "staircase" pattern, I'd say this set will rely heavily on stickers for colour harmonising.
