rriggs Posted March 6, 2013 Author Posted March 6, 2013 Excellent work on the interior riggs! It's coming together very nicely. An off topic question though, is your signature quote from something of is it a typo about Edison? Anyway looking forward to seeing this complete. Will there be a custom helicopter or a regular set? The quote in my signature is actually a quote of Homer Simpson. It's so wrong it makes me smile everytime I read it! I have a heli done and ready for the pad on the roof. It's baically a re-colour of the heli from the forest police station. Cheers Rog Quote

Roger_Smith Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 Now this looks good! When I saw the first pictures of your MOC-approach, I didn't like it too much, because the building looked very plain and boxy and reminded me a bit of 60ies/70ies architecture - which I find rather boring - but with more glass. At that point,. I liked your old, non-modular approach better. With the new entrance and the changed overall depth, it's a whole different story now. This really looks like a modern fire station, and the whole layout feels very realistic. Really nice work, keep it up! Quote
rriggs Posted March 6, 2013 Author Posted March 6, 2013 (edited) When I saw the first pictures of your MOC-approach, I didn't like it too much, because the building looked very plain and boxy and reminded me a bit of 60ies/70ies architecture - which I find rather boring - but with more glass. I can understand your point however it was always going to be an ongoing project that was going to grow and develop. It is interesting you make that comparison though because part of my inspiration (although no actual architectural references) was taken from the local county fire HQ which I pass when I walk into town for my lunch every day. This building is - you guessed it - a 60s square block... I'll see if I can find a photo... EDIT: found one: http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/584321 Cheers Rog Edited March 6, 2013 by rriggs Quote

rriggs Posted March 9, 2013 Author Posted March 9, 2013 (edited) Hi I promised an update now that it's the weekend: First up the interior of the reception area: Out the back the car park is done as is most of the garden. I will be putting a BBQ in the corner too. One of the three grey windows on the ground floor is now a door so there is pedestrian access to the compound: On the roof I have turned the staircase exit into a proper little room. This is where all the comms equipment is now mounted and will be the heli pilot's quarters: And the current view of the whole building: Cheers Rog Edited March 9, 2013 by rriggs Quote
Artifex Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 Keeps getting better and better! :) Seconded! Quote
timmyc1983 Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 impressive! And how apt for the fire dept to have a water fountain in reception haha, nice touch :) Quote
rriggs Posted March 10, 2013 Author Posted March 10, 2013 impressive! And how apt for the fire dept to have a water fountain in reception haha, nice touch :) I thought it was a nice touch too... Thanks for the continued positive comments guys. Some more updates this morning: This is the call centre on the top floor. Lots of phones and computers. Five desks for the call operators and then the administrator and the manager's desks by the back wall. Some flowers and a gumball machine to brighten up the corridor. On the wall there's a screen next to the clock showing the current call stats and department performance: Next along from the call centre is the conference room and the training/briefing room: And then the chief's office: The heli pilot's quarters are done too now. He has a bed for the night shifts, navigation computers and tools for the day to day running repairs and maintenance of the heli. He also has some spare equipment and a life jacket ready to go: Last up today are a couple of shots of the heli. This is essentially the heli from the Forest Police Station with the blue bits turned red. I have also added some firefighting equipment with a jet for fire fighting from the air (in true 1980s LEGO fire heli style!) plus a handheld extinguisher for fire fighting on the ground. There's also a department logo on the back: Cheers Rog Quote

scottwb2010 Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Nice updates rriggs since I last commentted after you first uploaded pics of this station. I like that youve change the bi-fold rear doors for the roller shutters and the extention on the side makes the building look better rather than a rectangular block. Interior is well detailed. Liking the Control/despatch room also. Keep up the good work. Quote
LEGO Guy Bri Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 Yeah, this is great! I like the new colors on the heli, but the station is fantastic! It has pretty much everything it a real one has or needs. What really stands out is the fact it's not crammed or cramped in there, there is ample space. Great job Quote
AwesomeStar Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 Blimey, that fire station is huge! I love all the detail you've put into both the interior and exterior of this MOC. I didn't quite understand how big it was until I saw that picture, it's massive! Brilliant work, can't wait for more! Quote

I really like the Forest Fire Truck but unfortunately it's too tall for the garages. This meant a quick rebuild was in order to allow it to fit into the garages as I really wanted this in the fire station. This is the result: Cheers Rog Quote
rriggs Posted March 13, 2013 Author Posted March 13, 2013 Thinking of changing the mudguards to grey as the yellow looks a bit lost with no other yellow on the truck. The yellow was to try and stay in keeping with the original but I don't think it works. Thoughts? Quote

The yellow was to try and stay in keeping with the original but I don't think it works. Thoughts? I was thinking that myself and would look better with a change of colour. Also what would it look like if you did away with the first set of rear wheels as IMO the first set seam too close to the front wheels and resembles a 6x6. Just a thought. Quote
LEGO Guy Bri Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 Yeah, I'd go with the dark bley mudguards too. The yellow worked on the original it was in the red. Bley and yellow doesn't mix well IMO. I think scott has a good point as well. I think you should drop the middle axel and move the 3rd forward a stud or two, since that truck isn't very long Quote
Zed_43 Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 Really nice interiors, it looks very good with the garage filled with trucks! (but I dislike your forest truck, sorry). You got 2 ladder trucks.. even 3!!!! why don't you make a pump truck!!! Great work again! Love you MOC! I also have a big fire station with 6 bays (with a tower and small building on the roof). But I always avoided taking it high as yours like a modular building... I thought it will not look good! But you prove me that I was wrong!!! I'll try one day... when i'll have enought bricks and windows! Quote
