A2L Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 (edited) I do not know if this has been discussed before, someone can point me to it if its there. Now that new Hobbit sets are coming in Dec 2013, is there any chance of getting any ponies? I find the big horses a total mismatch for dwarves and hobbits. What are you fellow Hobbit enthusiasts using? The big horses from LOTR and older themes? Do you feel the same way, or is it only me? Edited February 23, 2013 by A2L Quote
Deathleech Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 I don't think we will be getting ponies for the Hobbit sets. They were barely seen in the first film and didn't have any huge role so the likely-hood of Lego making a new mold for them seems pretty slim. Quote

Rogue Angel Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 It would be awesome if they did, but I too highly doubt it. Quote
Deathleech Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 (edited) So was the Corsair ship in ROTK, and yet... That's a bit different though. Aragorn and the undead coming off the pirate ship were the turning point in the battle. It's a pivotal moment. I think we all expected the undead oathbreakers in Lego form sooner or later, just not so soon before some of the other major scenes or possible sets like Minas Tirith and the Balrog were made. The hobbit and dwarf ponies on the other hand have no major scenes, are only in the films a short time, and are barely different than the current horse mold we have. Plus Lego would have to do a totally new mold which is very expensive, much more so than parts in different color and new minifig prints. Because of all this I don't see a new pony very likely at all. Edited February 25, 2013 by Deathleech Quote

Because of all this I don't see a new pony very likely at all. Yeah, that wasn't the reason though. The reason the ship was made is that it is practically the ONLY vehicle in all the films (Gandalf's cart, check. Uruk-Hai balista, check. Grey Havens ship...). There simply wasn't anything else to fit that niche. Ponies would require a new mould, and would probably show up the scale issues with humans and dwarves/hobbits a bit too much. Too expensive, not enough benefit. Quote
Deathleech Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 Right, that is definitely a HUGE factor too, if not the main factor the Corsair Ship was made into a set. I was just responding to his point that the ship set was made despite it having limited film time. I think another indication we won't see ponies is we still have not seen any new molds for swords like Glamdring, Orcrist, etc. These have a bigger role than the ponies and would be easier to mold than a whole pony but we still haven't seen any of the unique swords except Sting for the same reasons no doubt. They would barely be noticeable differences and aren't important enough to warrant a new expensive mold for. Quote
Faefrost Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 Let's not forget that the Corsair ship sneakily serves several Lego audiences. Yeah, it's an obscure RotK scene, but it's still a Lego ship. And Lego ships carry their own fan base. And Lego does ships very well. It's a set that is designed more for cross theme appeal I think. Granted Ponies would have plenty of cross theme uses, but I think the existence of the new Friends Pony mold may supercede most of them unfortunately.Part of the problem may also be making the Pony rideable. In both the Friends Pony and the much earlier one (Belville?) The horse was reduced in several dimensions and you could not put a minifig in it. But for the Hobbit you would need to be able to saddle up, so the Pony would need to be as wide as the minifig. This would result in a very strange short fat looking horse. Quote
Mahtion Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 Well since Lego loves ships so much and caters to certain target audiences I hope we get a Grey Havens ship at some point with Old Bilbo exclusive and maybe new prints for Elrond and Hobbits and a Galadriel. Cirdan would be great but I doubt it very much. Quote
nivremis Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 On a.. semi-related note, what's everyone using for chairs for hobbits or dwarves? All my dwarf meals look ridiculous with everyone standing on their chairs.. Quote

Take off the legs, then put headlight bricks of the same color on, so the stud with a hole is connecting with the torso and the bottom hole is at the front. It looks al most exactly like left in the sitting position. Quote

A nice big exclusive like they did with Diagon Alley for Harry Potter. Quote
