Myrddyn Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Ah, right. That explains how Padfoot was kicked out of the assassins, yet still took a contract. I assumed he was doing work unofficially, but maybe it wasn't him at all. "Hmm." "Sorry, Mr Baron. As Mr Solanum said, we have evidence that someone was killed by a blue assassin, and I heard Mr Padfoot was a blue assassin. I guess I jumped to conclusions too quickly. I hope you'll accept my apologies."
Palathadric Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 "Hmph. Not likely, he hasn't left since he arrived." "The bloody voice of reason at last. I don't like being lied to, for the future." The Baron grumbled. "You just want to chat with him? Unusual. He said any visitors would probably just be there to kill him....and I still have no reason to believe you won't. Now tha-" "Now that we're all being....supposedly....honest here, maybe we can strike an arrangement. It's obvious enough we're not that much of a town to look at, which, specifically, is several months behind my expectations. Moke has one job - collect money from the people and bring it to me. And he can't even do that right. Some of it vanishes before it even gets to me. I know it for certain by now, I've talked the numbers with everyone myself. I don't know what the hell he's been doing with it; and if I don't know everything that goes on down here, I'm not content. Put an end to it. He has the spine of a sewer maggot, so confronting him should work easily enough." "Here's the whole issue, Monsieur le Baron. There are a group of men known in Eubric as the blue assassins. I believe your guest is a member, or rather was a member of the group. The members of the group are criminals and we are doing our utmost to crack down on them to help eliminate crime, something that you seem to have done tremendously well down here, for which I commend your efforts. Now, we were alerted to your guest's presence and we came down here to look for him so we could get information regarding one specific murder. Normally, it would be our duty to arrest him and bring him for trial, but, if he can help us out in solving the murder-mystery we are currently faced with and since he seems to have abandoned his old lifestyle perhaps a pardon from us is suitable. We appreciate your frankness and honesty and we will certainly do all that is within our power to do when confronting Mr. Moke. I just ask why you have not done so yourself before now? He is a tricky character, is he not?"
Dannylonglegs Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Snip "Trial in Eubric? I didn't know there were any laws up top whatsoever." Stated Sylph, amused.
Myrddyn Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 (edited) "So, I guess we'll go chat to Moke now? We just gonna wait till he gets back with our weapons and confront him here, or has he got an address?" Edited July 9, 2013 by Myrddyn
Palathadric Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 "Trial in Eubric? I didn't know there were any laws up top whatsoever." Stated Sylph, amused. "You can't be serious! Since when? I have to say that apart from short intervals at the hall I have not really been active in the city what with demons and hell's beasts running wild therein, I prefer to avoid the city. But now you say that there are no laws. I suppose when you let the devil in Anarchy follows." I turn to the Baron, my head still clouded with confusion and perhaps a little anger. "Hmmmm...Mr. Moke seems to be delaying with the bringing of our weaponry. Do you think he has caught onto your plans, Baron?"
CMP Posted July 9, 2013 Author Posted July 9, 2013 "Very well. You wish us to break down Moke's door, so to speak, in exchange for access to Padfoot's information? I believe I speak for all of my babbling associates when I say you have yourself a deal. If you'd be so kind as to return our weapons to us, we will confront him. Do you wish him to remain alive if worse comes to worse and we fight? I'd be lying if I said most of our confrontations ended with everyone in one piece." "He'll be back in a moment. It won't come to killing him, I can guarantee you that." "Sorry, Mr Baron. As Mr Solanum said, we have evidence that someone was killed by a blue assassin, and I heard Mr Padfoot was a blue assassin. I guess I jumped to conclusions too quickly. I hope you'll accept my apologies." "Quite all right. He's a mysterious man." "Here's the whole issue, Monsieur le Baron. The only reason I'm letting you speak to him is that, misguided and overestimating your authority or not, you're trying to do a decent enough thing, and I need this done anyway. Why haven't I done it? I only recently discovered this all, and wasn't sure how to take care of it without making a scene...this way, I can just reinforce the idea that you humans are too violent to try to interact with us, and I can still have this issue taken care of." The Baron smiles, satisfied with himself. "Hmmmm...Mr. Moke seems to be delaying with the bringing of our weaponry. Do you think he has caught onto your plans, Baron?" "I doubt he-" Moke returns again, huffing and puffing, his arms full of the heroes' weapons. He walks around, allowing each one to take back their arms. The Baron then stands, polishing off his wine, his usual confident grin returning. "I must go see how the renovations on Shelby's shop are doing. Moke, my good fellow, entertain our guests!" He leaves without waiting for an answer, leaving the party along with Moke. "Ahh, ehm, hello, th-here, then."

Are the taxes easy to collect or do people give problems?"
Palathadric Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 (edited) I silently equip the Shackles of War that I had dug up hopefully without Mr. Moke noticing. I talk while I do so. "So, how much is the tax rate here, if I may ask?" Edited July 9, 2013 by Palathadric

Palathadric Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Dreyrugr would be useful around here. I speak diplomatically. "Mr. Moke, let me cut straight to the chase. It seems that money has gone missing from the tax that you are meant to be collecting from people. We were assigned to look into the issue. What don't you make it easy on us all and confess what you know."

Palathadric Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 I raise my eyebrow. "Well, you'd best be telling the truth or else," I bark. "What kind of men are these? Why have you not told the Baron about them?"

"Not named Dragon Dan, was he?" "No, their leader's name is Reg.....R-Reg Goldjaw, he says..."
Myrddyn Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 "Well, you're probably right about that. Thing is, though, they'll just keep asking for more money. Tell ya what, I'm sure my companions'll agree to this, we'll go scare 'em off, and you tell the Baron all about what happened. When we get back, we'll give you directions to Heroica Hall, so if something similar happens in the future, you can hire some people like us to give you a hand." Erik says diplomatically, before turning to the rest of the party. "Right, guys?"
herrJJ Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 "Seems fair to me", Nessa stated. Then she turned to Erik. "Borrowing the hide is a good idea, I think." After Erik handed over the hide Nessa equipped it instead of her quiver. OOC: sorry, I have been a little bit silent the last days. But niw my vacation is nearly over. Tomorrow we (Psykater, me and our wifes will be back in Germany). I promise to try being more active then

I hope it won't difficult on our resident demon." I cast a mocking glance Dreyrugr's way. What does this leader, Reg Goldjaw, say and where can we find him and his people? I have to say that I'm not too pleased with your offering money to these gangsters, Mr. Moke, but under the circumstances I suppose you could think of no better course of action. In the future, it would always be far wiser to consult with Heroica and a band of heroes to help you. "What do you all say, we consult with the Baron and then go and take care of this matter once and for all?" Edited July 11, 2013 by Palathadric
Myrddyn Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Erik hands the Hide of the Suffering to Nessa. "I was thinking we could confront this 'Reg Goldjaw' before we speak to the Baron, but I guess the order doesn't really matter."
