LegendsOfNinjago Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 I don't understand why Lego Movie sets are soo scarciliy available...I mean TRU is the only place in my city that has all of them...it's kinda nerve-racking... Quote
Dorayaki Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 (edited) Apparently HappyMeal.com has revealed the toys... and they are indeed those cups. -Sci They're still nice as movie products, since we've predicted that Lego bricks can hardly be Happy Meal toys. Unless these cups have studs and can be compatible with bricks. My opinion (not toward these cups) is I'm alittle disasapointed not going to see more important characters from this movie. Blakstone Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 That saved me from eating at McDonald's. I would have shift my eating out for lunch money there for bricks but I will pass on a cup. Dorayaki is right though, it is not surprising since even a single minifig or a few bricks is too expensive for a Happy Meal Toy. Quote
Amazing Bricks Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 In the essential guide, it shows lord business right next to Emmet's Construction Mech. Does that mean we'll get him in that set? Quote
JeagerEX Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 (edited) The missing physical minifigures in LEGO Movie are the ff: - Vitruvius (Different style, not the one that looks like a hippie) - Traffic Enforcer - Michelangelo - Old Ollie - Wild Will Apparently HappyMeal.com has revealed the toys... and they are indeed those cups. -Sci Why Benny is not there? Cult_Of_Skaro Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 My Walmart has at least the Melting Room and Getaway glider. Didn't check the LEGO aisle, just saw these in the checkout lane. Quote
Aanchir Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 I don't think anything's wrong with the cups in terms of value. Honestly, I probably have more use for fancy cups than I do for cheap molded toys, which would just grow old in a box or on a shelf. At the same time, it seems like a baffling marketing decision. Wouldn't kids (i.e. the primary audience for Happy Meal prizes) prefer something they can play with to something purely functional or decorative? The page calls them "Action Cups", so unless that's just over-enthusiastic marketing lingo there might be something we're missing out of. Maybe there's a toy that comes inside the cup? But I might be reaching there. Quote
ResIpsaLoquitur Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 I am seeing other TLM gear in stores, including Emmett and Lord Business pens, keylights, notepads, etc. We're probably going to see a lot of non-toy product on the shelves soon. Quote

But I might be reaching there. Suppose they're just cups without any surprise, I wish that they can be used to do other things. For example, they're round or square columns that can be used to be a building or a large signboard in Lego System (another Octan banner, for example). Or there might be useful pieces included in the cups. Quote

They are trickling out through the supply chain. TRU is the dedicated toy store and works hard to get the products out day of release if not sooner. The other vendors tend to just figure it into their weekly stock rotations. I saw some of the sets show up at my local Walmart today. And Target just put out the CMF's. I figure by the end of next week they will all be fully stocked. Quote
DannyRww Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Not sure how I feel about the cups..they're nice and they probably decided to do them instead of some cheap toy like the Batman figures. But still it doesn't seem right some how...wonder how my daughters will feel about these. I'll show them when they get up tomorrow and see how they feel about them. I almost would have liked to see books of some kind. Quote
vriverajr3 Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Just showed my 6yo the cups. He said they looked cool. He didn't even ask if their would be an actual toy with it. he said he wanted the emmit and batman cups, then took off running to his room to continue playing with his LEGO haha. I also like them and want to get them all. I don't know why so many people thought they might get a minifigure and some bricks. Just the minifigure alone would probably cost more than a happy meal haha. Quote
DannyRww Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 I never expected Bricks (and certainly not minifigures) so I guess cups are better than cheap toys. The idea is growing on me more to be honest...my wife saw them and said "I guess we have to get two unikitties for the girls" Quote

I'm not sure if anyone mentioned this before but I took a picture of this when I was at Target. (click on the image to view the full size) A blurry version of this image is printed on the 1x2 tile that comes with Hard Hat Emmet. Edited January 5, 2014 by Arigomi Quote
jodawill Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Personally, I'm relieved to see that these "toys" are such a disappointment. I worked at McDonald's for five years and they treated me like garbage, so I swore I'd never step foot in one again. I'm glad I won't be missing out on anything exciting. The Target in my town sold out of the Lego Movie sets within 24 hours of their first shipment (except that binder thing, whatever that is; I haven't looked at it). Meijer has plenty of all the sets (not the minifigures) in stock except that saloon airplane. (For some reason, they never even got any in their first shipment.) Quote

I still haven't decided whether I'm going to buy that one. The only reason I want it is because I like the blue dress and the piano tile. (Is that piano tile printed or is it a sticker?) I'll probably Bricklink the parts I want. Edited January 5, 2014 by jodawill Quote
deraven Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 The only reason I want it is because I like the blue dress and the piano tile. (Is that piano tile printed or is it a sticker?) The piano itself is neither- it's just 1x2 white grill tiles over black (you can see it in the review thread for 70812). The sheet music is a sticker on a 2x2 white tile. Quote

PenPlays Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Just a reminder for those of you in the US set hunting, and for those who aren't sure about which sets are exclusives. Flying Flusher is Wal-Mart Exclusive Creative Ambush is a Target Exclusive and Rescue Reinforcements is a Toys R Us Exclusive. Quote
HawkLord Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 This is going to be exciting to watch from a distribution and marketing standpoint. I mean, we've all seen how Hasbro or Mattel handles their own licensed product movie launches, but this is Lego handling their very own product tied to a movie launch of their own IP. This should be very interesting... Quote
