"I believe the chaps in blue are staying in the warehouses, and seeing as they can't seem to find the resistance, I doubt its floating around there. I say we pay a visit to the barracks first." Boomingham exits the tavern and sets off towards the Barracks, hoping his Hunter pal will follow him. "Nerwen says you're a good hand with a bow, boy. So, regal me with a tale or two of your prowess while we walk."

As the sun starts to sink lower towards the west, you walk down the street to the Marketplace. There're a few people there, more that you probably would've expected to see considering the state of the village.

9486482633_378e5fefe4_o.jpg

Looking at the signs of the buildings, you see a number of open establishments:

  • Bank of R'kilf
  • R'kilf Magic Shop
  • R'kilf Potion Co.
  • Blacksmith

The Party on the Outskirts:

The first action is to identify forces in play, both those interested in restoring the town and those who wish to plunder it. I expect you fall in the first catagory, not the second.

"Nerwen is quite correct save that we mean to destroy those who plunder, not restore."

"Now being an ambassador, protocol demands that I present my credentials."

Throlar hands his credentials to Karhedin.

"I must ask you to keep the contents of these documents secret for state reasons."

av-warlordkaherdin.png

"So, you have come here for information. I have some for you. Something festers in the heart of R'kilf. Something you have failed to see. But the great Pongcanae leader has seen it! Even now, he presses his advantage. His attack will come soon.

"The human 'resistance' is nonexistent, the Pongcanae are interested only in theft, and the elves command neither respect nor power. The Mopag High Council has sent me here to make the land safe for our settlement to the north, to control the road between the two villages, to defeat the Pongcanae that threaten our people before they can defeat us."

At the first phrase of Boomngham, Alexander nods, then he leaves the tavern following Boomingham "Yes, I'm good with my bow. My skill proved usefull when I was in the group of heroes sent to pacify Charis and when we were sent to Duplovia..." while the two passed through the city heading to the barracks, the elven archer tells Lord Boomingham with more detail his adventures.

"Why don't we check the magic shop?" Arthur offers, leading the group that direction.

what can you tell us of this Pongcanis leader? Do you know where he lairs? Is there perhaps some advantage to striking first? We are not the only ones to have been sent here.

Ellaria drops two gold into the beggar's pot, and gives the man a smile.

"May Sylvania bless you, good fellow. Might I inquire, what got you into this state?"

"Why don't we check the magic shop?" Arthur offers, leading the group that direction.

Ellaria nods to Arthur.

"Yes, that sounds good. Just a moment, please."

She then turns her attention back to the beggar.

Boomingham nods thoughtfully as they walk down the street, the barracks now to their right. "Seems every hero I meet has a tale to tell," he remarks jollily and then glances over at the barracks. "Hello! Resistance? Come out come out wherever you are!"

"I'm Barty," says his angel, whipping into view and offering his petit hand to Alex. "I'm sorry for him." Then, to Boomingham: "Be quiet, you idiot."

"We know that he's somewhere in one of the larger houses in the eastern area of the city. We've been pursuing the smaller groups, though, in hopes of thinning out their ranks."

"All I want to know is, what the reaction of the general populace would be to any attempt to form a resistance movement?"

av-warlordkaherdin.png

"A resistance movement is not acceptable to us. The Mopag High Council has ordered me to control this village and its road to our settlement. I will not support the formation of a movement that could lead to someone else controlling R'kilf."

They say it's run by a monster, one who has at one time not only kept the company of, but commanded gorgons, basilisks, hydras, and manticores...the witch they call Dala..."

Even as Benedict says, this, Arthur, you enter the Magic Shop.

9496797080_9dd3091fbf_o.jpg

A gorgon sits behind an oddly shaped desk, snakes writhing about her head. As you enter, she quickly jerks her head away, looking up from her tome and back towards a mirror set in the wall, clearly set there so she could view her customers without Petrifying them. The shop doesn't have many items, but it has clearly escaped damage.

Warlord Kaherdin spoke forcefully, spitting out the word 'dwarf' as if it were an insult.

"You have shown no respect for my interests in this supposed negotiation. If you're only going to try to take my information and use it for your own goals, then I see no reason not to treat you as an enemy, dwarf."

Posted

"This is not a negotiation, this is simply an attempt to find out as much as possible. As for you interests sir, mine are yours. My mission my have a direct bering on your own. I have no enmity for you yet and I have no wish to take any thing from you without giving something back. As a proof of this I will give you a method of countering these poncanae."

Throlar takes out the map (OCC: I am assuming that Throlar has the map here.).

"As you see here, the forest runs right up to the town on a side that does not, and never had, a wall. This, coupled with the sudden fog witch seems to be able to come down in the middle of the day even in summer, means that the poncanae can get right into town without being stopped. This would explain the sudden attacks from inside the town."

"Now if a large camouflaged detachment, larger than the average raiding band, waited in those woods for the poncanae to appear they would be able to overpower and capture at least one poncanae, interrogate him, and find out where the raiders are based."

"This would be very helpful as, despite the unlikelihood that the pog knows the location of anything bigger than a small camp for a single band is located, it would be a great victory and very helpful to your cause."

"The only problem that I can see is the fact that the raiding bands seem to have at least one mage each, however I saw a man in the tavern earlier who looked like a mage and might help you. He was wearing the uniform of a member of the Eubric Town Watch so his services may come at a price, but he would counteract the raider mages."

"'Give back'? Hah! What can you offer me, dwarf? Do you not think we've tried to capture the Pongcanae? Did you not hear me when I said that we knew where they were headquartered? We have plenty of manpower; the only thing that stands in our way is the fact that the beasts can smell us coming from five thousand studs away. Consider carefully what you say next; you have threatened me, and that will not be so easily remedied by the 'help' you have offered."

Nerwen placed a hand gently on Tholar's shoulder

The fog seems to have lifted, we can see the camp clearly now, though I do not think it was the work of Pongcanae.

As for this conversation, it is good that you are committed to speaking diplomatically as suits a knight.

She draws breath slowly through her nose. Her sharp senses pick out the smell sthat the Pongcanae take warning from. Eyes narrowing a moment in thought, Nerwen then smiles winsomely at the stern Hoplite commander

I would be surprised if the council did not permit a warrior as puissant as you some leeway in achieving the objectives they have set before you. I believe we can be of use to each other and it is good that you have made your intentions clear.

Perhaps something can be done to mask smells to permit a successful raid. Or some other method of correctly identifying the lair so that a proper cordon can be established. In any case, we do not wish to intrude too much upon your valuable time. One more question, though. If we are able to provide assistance to you, are you willing to accept it?

"If I am to be insulted and threatened by the dwarf who sought me out for help in my own camp, then there is little reason for me to work with it, Lady Elf, and I have enough men for my purposes. But you are not the dwarf -- impress me with why I should value your assistance."

Boomingham picks up the glass bottle, seeing if there are any remaining liquids, and then investigates the surrounding area, looking for any weapons or patches of cloth or really anything at all.
