Aanchir Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 Witch Doctor was an awesome parts pack with all the red ball joints etc. but the set design was somewhat lacking... I guess the set designers met the piece limit too early. I dunno, Witch Doctor was awesome on a functional level, just not so much on an aesthetic level. I guess that makes sense, since it was so heavily Technic-based in its design, and Technic is designed with functional versatility in mind. I really disliked the set when it first came out because I felt TLG should be putting more time and attention into taking full advantage of the new building system in their titan designs than into coming up with new ways to do things with Technic, which was already a well-established building system. I suppose in hindsight I was too harsh. Witch Doctor WAS using the new building system in new ways, after all — his leg design was much more creative than any previous or subsequent titan designs, even if it relied on peculiar connections for the ankles and hips. I'd still love to see a model around that size that is less heavily Technic-based in its structure, like that one MOC of Christoffer Raundahl's that I can't seem to shut up about. Of course, Witch Doctor was already much larger than any single figure really needs to be to look imposing compared to a typical hero, which is part of why I love Dragon Bolt as-is instead of thinking he needs to be larger. But still, as an exploration and proof-of-concept for the building system, a set of that caliber would be amazing. Quote
Pate-keetongu Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 What I meant is that some areas on Witch Doctor, for example the hip area, seems to done with the minimum piece count possible, having, if I remember correctly, 1x4 liftarm only on the other side, and so on. It can be seen on quite a few other HF sets (and why not on other themes?) too. I don't own the set, but as an example the fact that Stormer XL's ice sword has only a one TECHNIC cam and couple of ugly TECHNIC axles sticking out has always annoyed me. (also, Witch Doctor's wrists were terrible.) But hey, I have only a couple of HF sets built (Aquagon and Frost Beast from EB contest, modded Breakout Breez and Viktor) so I really buy them only for parts. When I bought the mentioned Raw-Jaw I was positively surprised of its excellent design, but it didn't stop me from taking it apart after few days. I mean, they are just sets. Thousands of people have them anyway. A mere feedstock. Quote
Zenerius Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 (edited) Now imagine if LEGO sets were alive. To them, we would be horrible atrocities that dismembered their body parts and used their remnants to create mindless zombies. Anyway, back on topic. I'm really glad about Queen Beast's price point. Can't wait to see all the things it includes at ToyFair. It will probably be one of my new favorite sets, along with Surge's combiner machine. Edited January 23, 2014 by Zenerius Quote
wghost Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 (edited) Some of the sets I find especially pleasing aesthetics-wise (without any modifications) are Witch Doctor, Breakout Bulk, Core Hunter, Von Nebula and pretty much the whole Brain Attack wave but Scarox. TheLazyChicken Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 1. Witch Doctor- he looks creepy and looks cool 2. Meltdown- cool looking and I am just a fan of those tentacles 3. Toxic Reapa- well, he looked really sinister looking and I like toxic badguys 4.XT4- I really liked the saw blade and four arms 5. Frost Beast- I just like the look of him But this all comes from someone who is not much of a hero factory fan! Quote
ZORK64 Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 I'm a huge fan of Brain Attack Stormer, but I also liked Breakout Breez, Toxic Reapa, Furno 3.0 and Scorpio. Quote
Cirkit Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Got to love that Furno Bike! Got super excited when a friend of my brother's gave that (along with a brick-ton of other Bionicle/Hero-Factory items). Just love the orange and silver and at the time Furno was my second-favorite. Really wish that set had given him leg armor, but ah well. Von Nebula was a pretty sweet looking villain at the time too, and I really wanted to get my hands on Rotor. It's a tie between Meltdown and Xplode for the smaller villains.. If somehow they were combined into one, that would be my favorite villain set ever. Really enjoyed Raw-Jaw from the Savage Planet wave. Breez from the Breakout line was fantastic for video-game related reasons, and of course because she's Breez and is my favorite character. Evo's tank arm was great(just the arm name was enough to have me go get it), and Core Hunter.. Period. Core Hunter has to be one of my favorite Hero-Factory figures ever. I seem to like a lot of Red and Yellow figures. Pyrox was and is my favorite Brain-Attack beast, and Breez once again is my favorite in that line, right beside Surge. And Evo's mech is my favorite so far. Soooo yes. Cooleeoh :P Quote
