tkatt Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 Pretzels, the small ones. They have no grease and can be eaten in one bite so there are no crumbs. Quote
tomdobs55 Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 A good Scotch goes well with Lego. A good scotch goes well with anything really. Quote
pbat Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 Hands-free repositories like this or this allow the consumption of (not too hot) soup and still have both hands clean and free for building. Quote
tedbeard Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 I usually get so engrossed in my building that I forget to eat and the cup of tea I made myself beforehand grows cold and ignored. This. Although I somehow mange to drink my beer before it gets too warm. Not sure if that helps or hinders my creative process. Quote

Legogal Posted September 5, 2013 Author Posted September 5, 2013 You guys are imaginative to say the least! Small pretzels are a great idea because they are bite sized and not greasy or sugary. Celery sticks also are a good choice for that reason. A serious survival tip for while you snack: Please do stand up every 30 minutes and get the legs moving again or you could end up cripple. You can set the timer on your laptop to beep at an interval....to remind you to take a short break. This makes it easier for you to build longer hours at a time. Quote
jimmynick Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 Please do stand up every 30 minutes and get the legs moving again or you could end up cripple. Oh boy, my knees from crouching on the floor the other day looking for parts! Quote
Walter Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 Sometimes I'll enjoy a sip of Coca Cola while building, but generally I don't try to mix building and eating. It has proven too messy for me in the past! Quote

Good point, I was building the 2011 hoth echo base and eating choclate cake and well.. There's no need to explain what happened next...... Quote
Rook Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 I'm not a big snacker, but when I do snack, I snack on Dos Equis and Tres Equis. Quote
Balrog Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 Well I guess there are "suitable" foods and "bad" foods when building Lego. Everything that melts or is in any kind greasy is bad. On the other hand, healthy things seem to be more suitable as the mentioned carrot sticks or something like that. Peppers would be fine as well. Gummy-Bears or the like are somewhat ok, though they put some fat (?) on your fingers as well. As well as those little pretzels we have something called Salzstangen here in Germany. It is basically the same, but as a stick. Regarding the half-hour break: This won't really work. Imagine you are building a set and are currently in the middle of a step when your reminder beeps. You discard the alarm, because it is annoying and say you just finish the step. Until you finished the step, you forgot to make a break or you simply want to continue a step or two. After that, it is all over and you'll never make your break. Usually I eat nothing while building or make a break to eat if needed. For drinks, everything is ok. Soda, juice, water, alcoholic beverages ... Quote
naf Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 I usually enjoy a beer or whiskey while building. The perks of being an AFOL... enjoying an adult beverage while playing with a kid's toy As for snacks, usually pretzels or anything else that doesn't make too much of a mess. Quote
TomLego Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 Ritz crackers with peanut butter. I tried Cheetos when I was new to Lego. I still have some orange tinted white bricks. Maybe I can use them on the horizon express, eh? Quote
lightningtiger Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 A good Scotch goes well with Lego. Ditto......well sometimes ! Now either a bit of chocolate (quick energy snap) or......... Quote
TheLegoDr Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 I don't normally eat and build at the same time, mostly because of the effects it may have on the bricks. Whenever I get hungry, I just go to the kitchen and have a snack and a break at the same time. Normally it is something simple, like a yogurt cup or a granola bar. Typically the break ends up taking longer than I actually was building. Something else comes up around the house that I need to take care of and never get back to building. Very interesting snack ideas from a lot of members here. I wouldn't have considered some and have never tried others. Quote

Dat Lego Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 I've never snacked during my Lego building sessions, but recently I became fond of eating vegetable crackers with tomato sauce and my hands weren't greasy at all. I might try that soon. Quote
BigTonka Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 Normally I don't eat snacks during my building sessions (unless I take a break to eat whatever is available in the kitchen), but what I do is enjoy an Erdinger, or Corona, or Heineken, or Miller, or Budweiser... or in their absence, ice tea. Quote
adotnamedstud Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 I seem like a complete pig here but I eat cold pizza and probably have a soda(on a good day) Other than that I'll probably take meals up into my room and eat up there... But I have a desk that has a table that you can move out... It also has a little cubby where I can place all my important parts. So I'm not that worried about getting my pieces dirty! Quote
XtheTyphlosion Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 Potato Chips. (BBQ to be exact, but then I wash my hands after the snack.) Quote
N-4K0 Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 Usually I only consume liquids when I build, like soda. Potato Chips. (BBQ to be exact, but then I wash my hands after the snack.) For chips, one could keep a wet washing cloth around to clean the fat off the fingers. Quote
LEGO Family Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 I do eat snacks while building. The best i can think of is fried chicken. Yes, correct. I do use a load of paper while building ... Hehe I can make a kilo of chicken in the deepfrier. Then they will just stand along while i build. On the other hand i never drink soda. But only water. Quote
didit_sunartio Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 I don't eat snack when building LEGO, but a cup of coffee is always on a nearby desk Quote
