StickFig Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 (edited) "Most definitely the first time I witnessed sky flowers." "Sky flowers?" The gnome gives a quizzical look. "I understood flowers grew from earth...?" Edited May 13, 2014 by nstickney
Waterbrick Down Posted January 30, 2014 Author Posted January 30, 2014 "Well not real flowers, but they look like flowers, blooming across the night sky in gigantic explosions."
Cryos Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 "Well not real flowers, but they look like flowers, blooming across the night sky in gigantic explosions." Baradock forgets the gnome's question completely, now more absorbed with the thought of sky flowers. "Explosions. Like cannon fire? That sound like effective weapon. Where you see these, sky flowers?" Clasping his hands and resting his chin on them, the idea of such a weapon had peaked his interest.
Waterbrick Down Posted January 30, 2014 Author Posted January 30, 2014 "Boris made a few a while back for a show we were putting on. Not sure if they could be used as weapons, but I wouldn't want to be in front of one when they went off."
Purpearljellyblob Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 (edited) "That was one of the most beautiful descriptions of love that has ever graced my ears. Even if you may have been raised among humans, you have learned to observe the ways of the world and the hearts of mortals just like your fellow kindred." Nelyvn paused at the question regarding his past "Where to begin, well 350 years ago I was once considered the greatest contortionist and acrobat upon the whole Crystaline sea. Still am if you ask anyone in the troupe. Those were such glorious days, the applause, the autographs, the fan-mail and then it happened. I should have known the day would come when I'd push myself to far. My greatest stunt yet, walking across a tightrope stretched across the entirety of Draida Bay during a hurricane! I'd made it easily half way across that fateful day when I came to the stunning realization that I had no clue how to swim. Never in my entire career had I waded through anything greater than waist deep. I panicked, I scrambled, and the next thing you know, splash into the drink. Didn't take too long till I was swimming with the proverbial fishes. And there is where I stayed for nigh on 300 years all corpsified on the bottom of the bay. Then out out of the blue one day, my eyes snap open, I start spurting out water and find myself on the shore, with a vacationing family of necromancers smiling down at me. We chatted for a while, find out they were on Holiday and were treating the kiddos to some fun when they came upon the grand idea of raising the famed Nelvyn the magnificent from the bottom of the bay. I thanked them kindly, put on a rather miserable show, being a little rusty and sorts, and then bid them good day. I wandered from there for another 45 years trying my luck at performing in villages and such, but I met with torches and pitchforks for the most part, on account of the whole undead thing. About 5 years back or so I finally came across the Mercutio's Smile and they've been my family ever since. Since then, I've learned it ain't so much the card's you've been handed in life, so much as how you choose to play with them." Purpearl smiles and nods in agreement as Nelvyn recollects his past, "Indeed Nelvyn. Even though Elves like us live a long life, death is still ultimately unavoidable. Besides, one can still raise the dead with concoctions and magical powers. What matters is what kind of legacy you decide to leave behind that people will remember you by. Life's unpredictable. You were once a famous acrobat and everyone remembers you as the greatest, but everything changed overnight when you fell off that tight rope, everything washed away by the hurricane. Everything changed again when those necromancers raised you, after 300 years, in a different form and how unexpected it is. The vessel you are presently in is no longer the vessel that people used to remember you by. Take this as an opportunity to accomplish something you never would have done 300 years ago. Maybe what's left is to find that broken fence to patch. Maybe what you needed is family, someplace where you belong, someplace where you could call home." At this point the party was following the great river south towards the bridge when Boris pointed across stream. In the distance, the heroes noted the gleam of steel, and the faint shouts of battle. A familiar banner waved in the wind and a monstrous reptile could be seen along with a few elves defending themselves against an assault of winged creatures. There was no doubt that the party's fellow members of Heroica were striving valiantly though difficultly against mounting odds. "Look like harpies and a whole flock of 'em at that! Nasty creatures, quite territorial." Edited January 31, 2014 by Waterbrick Down

Purpearljellyblob Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Purpearl places her hand on Nelvyn's upper arm, and transfers her gaze across the stream. "Count me in!"

Waterbrick Down Posted January 31, 2014 Author Posted January 31, 2014 "Friends of yours I assume? We still have the problem of the river, 'twould take us several hours to make it to the bridge and back to their location."
StickFig Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 (edited) Matthias, crestfallen, regards his loaded crossbow. "Hours?" The inexperienced and overeager gnome begins to gingerly unload his crossbow, hoping to avoid loosing an errant bolt. Edited May 13, 2014 by nstickney

Waterbrick Down Posted January 31, 2014 Author Posted January 31, 2014 "They're pretty territorial, I doubt they'd see any reason to come over to this side." As the heroes watch, they note even more harpies are starting to make their way over to the cliff the heroes seem to be fighting on.

Subtly he craned his head, scanning the area for any considerably sized boulders.

The cliffs on the other side of the river have plenty of boulders strewn about.

The mage gauges the depth of the river at perhaps 25 feet. Purpearl turns towards Cinna and Boris "I don't think everyone here is a strong swimmer or wants to get themselves or their belongings wet. I do think we can try freezing the water with an opal so we can cross the river."
StickFig Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 (edited) Matthias, crossbow in one hand and bolt in the other, stands agog at the mages' discussion. First sky flowers, now ice bridges... what will they think of next? "Will that work?" he queries, unsure whether to risk loading the crossbow again. Edited May 13, 2014 by nstickney
Darkdragon Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 "Perhaps if all of us magic users work together we could freeze a path across." ooc: sorry folks, i was suddenly pulled afk for over 8 hours.

Purpearl turns to Matthias, "We need to cross the river in the shortest time possible. We will know in due time if the ice bridge will work. If not we will have to think of other ways. I am not so sure myself as I do not have the gem necessary to freeze the water. More experienced mages might have one. Those harpies will not come to us so we will have to go to them." Darkdragon Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 "Alright, let's do this." Cinna turns to Purpearl, taking out her own opal and aiming at the narrowest part of the river to try an create a bridge of ice. "I think we must do this at the same time for the most power." Cinna casts an ice spell at the area of river to try and form an ice bridge.
