Vash the Stampede Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 "With all this going in circles I'd almost say it's better to blow this bridge up today and let both of these armies cool off their heads tomorrow. Neither side are in the wrong and at the moment it seems they are inadequately equipped for making peace. For the ones tasked with protecting this bridge at least they can always make another one. Most would rather another bridge than another war."

Destroying this bridge does not bring peace, else-wise there would have been peace before the bridge was made."
The Legonater Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 Blow up the bridge? Yes, I'm sure that'd settle things down. We'd only have the revolt of the High Kingdoms for cutting off their new supply route, and outrage from Baltarok over blocking their route to freedom. We'd only have a brewd war trying to erupt, but unable to. We'd only have a completely unresolved war that would only resume later. Cool off their heads tomorrow? Things like these do not cool off in a day. If we blew the bridge, we'd only have a larger, messier problem.
Chromeknight Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 Nerwen rounded on Olmstyr, her voice raised. Wah Wah Wah. I hear you waving the dead of Imaestym around like a tattered flag. Fine. You have the right to speak. Speak then. What is it you want? And do not give me any whining about how you should not bother asking me, I cannot provide. That is dishonorable and you know it. I am the one before you. I stand between you and what you want, if you can even say what it is you want. I am the one you must deal with, and whose hand can help you gain your desire. Name it. Or leave.
CMP Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 (edited) Name it. Or leave. "What I want is peace. Evidently, that's a fool's dream in this situation. My kin want to invade the Kingdoms, get revenge on these Lizards and Boulders, and free those of still imprisoned here. I'll have to settle for that, it seems." "I'm being realistic here. We have two armies ready to slaughter eachother, and now you think you can come up with a diplomatic solution? No. The Kingdoms refuse to see reason under their leadership now. The orcs are doing what they think is best." Olmstyr looked outside. The armies looked about ready to tear eachother to pieces while the heroes sat and argued in the watchtower. Valentino looked at Olmstyr, then at the heroes, then at the two armies outside, sighing in resignation. "I'll have to agree with you there, orc. We're cut off from the leadership, and I imagine this battle is going to start any moment now. If that's true..." He looked back at the heroes. "...The bridge is structurally unsound, heroes. It's incomplete; the tower we had to build puts too much weight on the center. We never expected a full-scale battle to be taking place on it." "...You mean to say that-" "If this war is as inevitable as it seems, and it comes to a head inside this tower, the entire bridge is coming down. With everyone still on it with it." Olmstyr paused at this statement rung in the air. "...We can't let that happen. Both armies will be utterly destroyed." The drums of war started to echo from the disorganized orcish side of the army. The Kingdoms side remained silent, lined up row after row. Olmstyr turned towards the heroes. "We need to defend this bridge. From both sides. If we don't, everyone will be paying for it. We don't have much time, heroes. Which cause do each of you fight for?" Everybody should speak up here, Quest 90 party especially. This will have a direct impact on your win conditions. The Legonater Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 If we're all working together for now, I'll fight the orcs. As much as I respect and agree with their cause, I'd prefer not to spill my own's blood if possible.

Maybe I should've worded it better....this ONLY determines which side you're winning with, nothing else just yet.
UsernameMDM Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 "King Valentino, can you tell the Kingdoms to hold back? Surely those who work on the bridge, the architects and engineers, can verify you words."
Chromeknight Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 Nerwen nodded in respect. I have misjudged you Olmstyr, you have my apologies. I look forward to meeting again under better circumstances, in the peace we both desire. She then remounted her horse. I shall stand to prevent the kingdom forces crossing onto the bridge. I want a chance to strike down the apostate paladin.
CMP Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 "King Valentino, can you tell the Kingdoms to hold back? Surely those who work on the bridge, the architects and engineers, can verify you words." "The men on the front lines here are under David's rule and this paladin's influence. They're willingly following their orders despite the fact that it goes against everything I've stood to prevent - me working to keep them off the bridge while I'm still believed to be held captive will not help matters." I shall stand to prevent the kingdom forces crossing onto the bridge. I want a chance to strike down the apostate paladin. Again, this does not determine who you're fighting, but who you win with. All will be explained in the mechanics once everyone chooses a cause.
The Legonater Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 So this choice will give the heroes a specific side to fight and continue to fight with?
CMP Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 (edited) So this choice will give the heroes a specific side to fight and continue to fight with? No. If you side with the orcs, it means that if the orcs win, you win. If you side with the Kingdoms, if the Kingdoms win, you win. That's all it means. Neutral victory is a possibility, but you have to choose a side nonetheless. Edited April 13, 2014 by CallMePie

I mean no offense King Valentino, but if you can't control your own subjects, how can you be their king?" Hoke turns to the Orc. "Can you talk any sense into stopping the orcs. The battle will have been well underway by the time I could reach the clan generals, if the orcs on the front let me through. Assuming they even listen to me, there's no telling how long it would take to get their men to pull back. I would do more good here."

"Where is this paladin and your son that commands this army? Are they commanding the army from the rear? Shouldn't they be leading the charge if they so wanted this war?" "Soldiers will normally fight a little bit harder when their general or commander fights alongside them. Who will fight a little bit harder this time? Whose morale is greater? Who has greater resolve? The orcs or the Kingdoms?" "Trade, economic and cultural interactions can happen anytime, anywhere. Prosperity is not going to happen anytime soon if this paladin continues to manipulate the King's son through paranoia and lies. But all this is temporary. If this paladin is rooted out or his life comes to an end, chances are a change in leadership will most likely make the Kingdoms in a better position to negotiate. But the oppression of the orcs must come to an end. This is the kind of tragedy that time cannot heal, only to make it worse. The orcs have to make their stand and make their voice heard. And it will be today. No doubt many lives will be lost if war ensues, but if the orcs emerge victorious, it will be a day where the orcs are emancipated. It will be a day where future generations will take heart that this is the day that the orcs are set free. I will give it my all and fight for their cause. I am with the orcs."
