Wardancer Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 Hi everyone, the CCC has one focus on making custom factions this year. This is a good idea, I think custom factions are a bit underepresented in the customizers world. One reason for this might be that painting small logos on shields, torsos, breastplates and banners in series is a very difficult and annoying thing. Now I had an idea that I thought I might share here: Using self-adhesive fingernail airbrushing templates for making custom factions. Think about it: A fingernail has roughly the size that you need to paint on when making custom shields, torsos etc. Fingernail airbrush artists - I thing I was not aware of until yesterday - use tiny templates to airbrush or paint. A quick search in the respective shops has shown that these templates can be very detailled and cost virtually nothing. For example, I ordered some deer templates with antlers which cost 3 Euro for 12 templates. They come in sizes of 5-7mm, which is very useful when applying the same sigil on different items. Stick them on, peint over it and you might have a very easy way to customize tiny sigils without the need to be an artist with the tiniest of brushes. I have yet to try this out, but I thought maybe this might reflame someomes love for customizing. Maybe this is already known, in which case I would like hear some experiences. Quote
raminator Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 sounds interesting. have you already tested it? I tried some self-adhesing foil that is for "window-color". the results were not satisfying at all... good luck. Quote
Wardancer Posted December 9, 2013 Author Posted December 9, 2013 I have just ordered a bunch of uruk-hai shields, on which I am going to try using the templates. If all works well, I will show it as a custom faction for CCC. It not, I'll show the fails here. I have received the templates yesterday. They are very detailled, but also very small. A bit too small for regular big shields, but about the size of the hand on the uruk shields. Quote
raminator Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 I hope for you that you post them on the CCC before you post them here. Would mean no fails =) Quote
Wardancer Posted December 27, 2013 Author Posted December 27, 2013 This worked perfectly: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=89977 I would never ever reach such a level of detail by painting. I had very few mispaints and these were just because of my impatience. It was even possible to use one template more than once. Later, I shall post something like a tutorial here with more detailler pictures. Quote
Darkdragon Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 An awesome idea and your results are stunning. Great work! Quote
