Rumble Strike Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Tarn smiled warmly at the U'Kin. "It is my pleasure, U'Voros. Take another rest, I will keeping helping Daneeka with the machine. Zepher Posted March 7, 2014 Author Posted March 7, 2014 OoC: I have calculated the amount of damage that the cannons can do - there is no way you will fail the battle, so I am moving things forward! Congrats, and thanks for testing the new mechanic with me! Captain Lane reaches the life boats first. "Get in!" he screams at Daneeka as a cannon ball thuds into the ship just above U'Voros' head. Huge slivers of wood rain down on the heroes. U'Voros covers his head, but Daneeka calmly strides onto the life boat with his device in hand. "Cut another one free for Arthur and the Princess and Arthur!" cries U'Voros nervously, and then begins to stab at the rope holding up a second lifeboat. Captain Lane whips out a small knife and cuts the boat free. It tumbles into the water and lands with a heavy splash. "Get in!" he commands the other heroes. "Daneeka, get those below back to the surface." "They may not have finished their work." "Don't give a damn. I'm the captain of this ship for at least the next minute or two until she goes under. I still have command." Daneeka nods. Captain Lane looks miserably at the old boat. "I should be going down with her. Poor old lass." He frowns. "Not today, though. You'll be needing me still." He glances across the way at the enemy ship. "Now, to make sure we won't be followed." The Captain hops onto the lifeboat, cuts it free, and once the heroes and the device hit the water, he fires his final cannon ball - it rips through their foes' hull. Water begins to flood in. The ship turns away. Arthur and Ella burst through the surface of the water. U'Voros yanks the shocked Arthur onto one of the boats, and Ella onto the other. Ella, in her hand, clutches an old treasure chest. The sun blazes behind the heroes as they watch their own ship sink, and the mysterious enemy ship disappear into the distance. Flipz Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 Arthur coughs violently, expelling large amounts of water onto the floor of the boat. His eyes snap open, and a flurry of razor-sharp ice crystals burst forth from him before dissolving to powder. He sees Tarn hovering over him and grabs the Raider's arm to pull himself up, gripping the man's shoulder in worry. "Ella--" He looks around frantically before spotting Ella with the chest. He slumps relievedly, leaning on the Raider for support. "She's safe. She's yours now." He coughs roughly, black ink mixed with a little blood spattering everything in front of him. He reaches in his pocket reflexively, finding the spoils of battle there--Ella must have dealt with those, too. He decides to hold on to them for now, at least until he knew how the others had fared. "Daneeka...you may want to work on the 'ascent' phase of that thing. Just saying." He looks out over the water at the sinking vessel. "Anyone want to tell me why I'm looking at the sinking hulk of the ship we used to get here? Or why Ella and I had to fight off competition down there for the book?" Quote

Good thing I picked up your horseshoe Tarn, or you may have had some explaining to do to Arthur." I hand the horseshoe back to Tarn. The good captain and I had to withstand their attacks alone as Tarn was busy saving your lives by carrying that blasted machine for the 'doctor' there. I have to say that we are blessed by God Himself that we did not join you down there." I pause for a while. "Wait a minute, you knew that they were here? Did they send a party down there themselves? Who the devil was it anyway? Any idea? They were cowards, that much was clear, hiding behind their ship and shooting from range. The other members of our party would not have been of much use, even if they hadn't needed to spend all their time getting that machine onto that boat. Bloody fools!" I sit down, the excitement of the moment having drained out of me and leaving only confusion in its place. "What did you find down there?" I query at length. "Thank God you made it back safely," I add. Quote

He is interrupted by the return of Arthur and Ella, and falls silent, just relieved that everyone had survived the encounter. He hugs Ella fiercely, not caring that she was a princess and he a lowly orphan from a small Titaan village. In that moment, she was the most precious thing in the world to him. Quote

Apparently the people above wanted the book as well, and they had a Prophet of their own after it--and a powerful one at that. The...representative they sent mentioned his master wanted to use the book to heal the world, but it rang more like one of Ulric's lies." He glances toward Tarn and Ella's embrace. Ella opens the chest. Inside is a crisp looking book... and when Ella moves it, there are a few more tomes below. Ella opens one. Inside is sprawling hand writing. Arthur waits for some horrible scream or awful demon, but there is none. "The Fang Coast," Ella reads, a small delighted smile on her face. "We have just seen some wine packaged. The people have named the yellow powder that has settled in Lake Glaz Sylvania's Seed - it has caused beautiful grass and flowers to spring up like wildfire around the lake. The Court Magician believes he can discover the source of the Seed, and maybe he can recreate it to bring growth and flourish to other cities. The Grand Dragon Golden Medusa questions his ability, and the two advisors have made a bet. Medusa has always been the nay-sayer of the two. My Warrior tells me that she is old and grumpy and that she is afraid of the world moving past her." Ella looks up with a grand smile. "Dastan used to have Dragon Advisors." Ella thumbs through the books as the heroes paddle back. They hear of an expedition to the north and of a great Norn city, hewn entirely out of ice. They hear a myth of creation - that al of Olegia sprung forth from the Well of Life that still sits at it's core. They hear of a great hero who stood as tall as a mountain and did battle with the Dust Dragon of Goblinia, who covered the land in ash upon his death; an ash that could never be removed. They hear a great number of mysteries and legends and fables and stories. The thing that ties them all together, of course, is the Prophetess and her Warrior. Ella comes finally to a page in one of the books, and after skimming it, flips to the next. It is empty. She flips back. "Mercution. The Moone Elves have thrown us a farewell feast. They would not like it if the world knew it, but they are certainly able to throw a party. They cannot, however, hold their wine particularly well. Tomorrow my Warrior and I will get on a ship. I had a strange dream last night, of falling weightlessly, of losing my breathe, of seeing the light above me, fractured, disappearing. I awoke in great fear. My Warrior spoke softly to me. He told me to not be afraid. He told me that being alive is a dangerous way to live. But he promised he would remain near me always. And he told me that the future does not matter. That the past does not matter. We will seal our books for the trip. We will look at the sea and speak to each other and experience life and be happy. We will be beside each other. My Warrior told me that that's the only thing that matters to him - to keep seeing the world along with me. To see whatever part of the world we see, be it terror, war, innovation, gods, or death... together." Ella nods. "That's the final entry." Eventually the heroes arrive back on the docks of Eubric. Captain Lane hops off the boat and tethers it to land. He looks down at the heroes. "Hestia and Nemo won't be happy with me. But thank you for the adventure. She was an old ship. Gave her a good last hurrah." He nods, and walks off. Doc Daneeka and U'Voros lug the machine out of the boat. "Someone help me with this machine. I need to get it back." Doc Daneeka turns to the heroes. "Congratulations on the quest, heroes. Thank you for the opportunity. If you see him, tell Hybros Doc Daneeka says hello." Doc Daneeka turns finally to Ella. "Thank you for the stories. I do not hear many things of the old world. I have lived a long time, it is easy to forget." "U'Voros, help the Doc with his machine. I will meet you at the Shrine." U'Voros bows, then bows to each of the heroes individually, and then scurries off. Ella and the heroes stand alone. "Thank you, heroes. I will take the books. I plan to bring it, immediately, to the Library of Dastan. It is a beautiful narrative. It should be shared with everyone." Ella pauses. "That is the end of your service to me. I hope you feel more experienced after the process." Ella turns to Tarn. "I will be departing for Dastan in a week or two... Tarn, I do not know what the future holds, for Olegia, or even for myself. I do not know if I will become Empresses, or if I will do a good job of it. I do not know who will stand at my side when I rule. But I can tell you that now, currently, I would be happy to have someone beside me." Ella stares ahead into Tarn's eyes. "Will you come to Dastan with me? I do not know what the future holds, but I do know that right now, I want you at my side." Edited March 10, 2014 by Zepher Quote

Rumble Strike Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 Tarn's eyes misted over as he heard Ella recount the tales of the Prophetess and the Warrior. The bond those two had shared, long ago now, was made clear by the charm and the wonder in her words. To hear Ella say them out loud was strange, almost that she were the Prophetess and he the Warrior. The love they clearly had for each other spoke to him in a way he had not felt before. When Ella asked him to come to Dastan, to be with her, it was an easy choice to make. They would not be apart again. They were destined to be together. "Yes, my love," Tarn spoke softly. "I will come to Dastan with you. I will be by your side, and we shall help each other through whatever life throws at us." Quote

Like many before him, he was going on his way - the heroes after the Dark Angel Crisis had sought their own way in the world, as had the Dark Lady Wren. Hestia Bonaparte, they said, had once graced the Hall before going her way, and even the Oracle of Eubric had once been a hero, some said. Tarn was leaving the city, but he would be, always, a hero. Zepher Posted March 13, 2014 Author Posted March 13, 2014 (edited) Side Quest: Under the Sea The light from the surface disappears quickly as Ella and Arthur sink... and sink... and sink. "It is getting cold," the Princess says airily. "How do you suppose this fantastical machine of the Doc's works, Arthur? I know as little about science as he does of visions." She grasps the pearl firmly in her hand. "I'm not sure. It feels like an Etherial spell, like I could cast if I had the Sapphire, but the real trick is making it last. Wind is a fickle, fast-moving element that dissipates quickly--it's why I'm more partial to Ice and Stone. Make an ice sphere to rise from the floor of the ocean, or a floe to ride across it--that I can do easily. A bubble of air to breathe below? I can't think of a Mage alive who could do it for more than a minute. It's funny--people associate Mages with magic, but people like Doc Daneeka...they're the real magicians." "I am very impressed by the Doc. I can't tell what it is either. Certainly feels... powerful." Ella pokes at the surface of the bubble and it expands outwards a little before rebounding back in. "It's a strange device to have floating around. I wonder what he was planning to do with it if we didn't show up." The bubble lands softly on the floor of the ocean. It is chilly. Sand billows around it before the bottom of the bubble parts so it becomes a dome and the heroes can put their feet on the soggy ground. "There." Ella points a few feet off. A chest. "Shall I lead the way, Arthur, or would you like to?" "Together, I think." Arthur smiles, and steps forward. Ella takes a step forward, but then lets out a gasp. Arthur does the same as a mammoth shadow rushes towards them. "Wouldn't be a true adventure without a little danger..." says Ella, but even so she lets Arthur step forward. Arthur passes his spare Scroll of Blinding and again attempts to cast Frailty at the Guardian from the Back Row. "Princess, perhaps you can use your Gossolalia to find out if it's intelligent, and if so, why it's attacking us?" Battle Order Arthur (passes Scroll of Blindness to Ella) Arthur (Scroll of Frailty vs Guardian) Ella (receives Scroll of Blindness) OOC: If it takes multiple Rounds to trade items, next Round Arthur will pass Ella his Hollow Blade Dagger and then attempt to renew the Guardian's Blindness, since this is just a trading Round. Zepher Posted March 13, 2014 Author Posted March 13, 2014 OOC: Check me on this, but I'm pretty sure I had slotted something into my Duplovian Halberd before I got on the ship. A Remedy or an Elixir, I think...pretty sure it was a Remedy, now I think about it. Anyway, I'll hold off on my "master plan" for the moment, since re-ordering the actions shouldn't cause any problems and is the safer choice anyhow. "Are you...the Prophetess? Of the old legend, the one who wrote the book? Where is your Warrior?? He's not..." Arthur looks sadly at the demolished corpse of the Guardian. "Erm...in matters of the present, let's see if we can't make this a bit safer for you." Arthur casts a quick Armor Sundering spell at the Guardian, then gives Ella his Mulled Wine. Battle Order: >Arthur casts Armor Sundering at Golden Automaton >Arthur uses Mulled Wine on Ella >Ella (Lightning, Hollow Blade Dagger) v. Golden Automaton >Ella heals self if damaged, otherwise (Lightning, Hollow Blade Dagger) v. Golden Automaton OoC: You were right about the remedy! "Just the whispers of her," says Ella or the Prophetess. "This is just a vision. To her," clarifies Ella with a smile. "As for my warrior, I'm afraid his body is as gone as mine is. Lapped away by the water over the years." "Why have you sided with the heroes? Have you seen my master's plans as well? Do they strike you as evil?" "Your master is noble. I too have seen him here to retrieve the book. It is all visions. Ella has asked me the same question in another vision. I have fought with all and against all, at different times." Ella looks down. "I have seen more of your master. He is a powerful man. He is a true prophet. Perhaps he is right. Perhaps I am wrong." "We trust him. There is much in Olegia to fix. We need the stories. We need the book." Round 8 of the Guardian Battle >Arthur casts Armor Sundering at Golden Automaton - Failure (Roll of 5, -1 ether) >Arthur uses Mulled Wine on Ella >Ella v. Did it not linger, as yours has done? It seems cruel that, after everything you've been through, that you'd be separated in death." Arthur turns to the automaton and again speaks diplomatically. "I still don't see why your master can't work with us, or rather us with him. There's plenty in Olegaia I'd like to fix, why can we not fix it together? We came to seek the book for wisdom and knowledge--there is nothing in our mission that means we would have to keep it from you. From the sound of it, we ought to be working together." He turns back to Ella, questioning. "Am I missing something here? Is there something keeping us from going with the automaton, and meeting his master, and reading the book along the way?" Arthur waits for a response before continuing. I was staring out at the water, and in moments, I will be staring out at the water again. A gale will hit. It shall come to pass." The light dies a little in the Prophet's eyes. "We cannot give the automaton the book, Arthur. It will not let us. It wants it all to itself. That is the way some people are. They want the future all to themselves." Ella smiles sadly. "As many times as you've asked it to, it has not stood down." Arthur nods sadly, and charges up a Sundering Spell, followed by an Ice Spell through Sir Roderick's Sword, timed to coincide with Ella's Lightning spells for maximum damage, both attacking from the Back Row. Battle Order >Arthur casts Sundering at Golden Automaton (back) >Arthur (Ice, Sir Roderick's Sword) v. Golden Automaton (back) >Ella (Lightning, Hollow Blade Dagger) v. Golden Automaton (back) >Ella (Lightning, Hollow Blade Dagger) v. Golden Automaton (back) OOC: Actually, my defense should be 14+1+5=20, but I still agree the two Enchants I rolled this battle saved my life! Grimacing from the pain, Arthur gestures to Ella to carry on. "I've got this, just finish him off!" Battle Order: >Arthur (Healing Staff) v. self >Ella (Lightning, Hollow Blade Dagger) v. Golden Automaton >Ella (Lightning, Hollow Blade Dagger) v. Golden Automaton OOC: If the automaton isn't dead this Round, Arthur will switch to his Sword of the Vampir but do nothing and Ella will heal him twice. Round 11 of the Guardian Battle >Arthur v. Self - Failure (Roll of 5) >Ella v. Automaton - Shield (KO No Matter What) Ella fires a smell at the automaton, and it explodes into a billion little pieces. Ella turns to Arthur, a smile on her face, but suddenly a white light envelopes Arthur! Water floods his lungs... he can't breathe! He gasps and sucks at air, but nothing. He feels his lungs, so heavy. The world around him... so dark. Another body floats in the water next to him, not fighting, not struggling. He tries to look over at it, but he cannot. He can only look at the dark murky water above... Ella...must...protect... Mustering the last of his strength, Arthur expends all his remaining Ether to create a cradle of ice to float the other body to the surface, before the world starts to fade... OOC: Wait, do I gain experience? This affects an important decision/tactic. Arthur attempts to send ether through the water... but to no affect. He can't move his arms. He can't do anything. "Be still, Arthur," whispers Ella, so close to him that it echoes in his own head. Arthur's head moves without his consent. The figure next to him is revealed - even in shadows Arthur can make out armor dragging the body down. The man looks over. It's a face that Arthur doesn't recognize. The man smiles. Then the man closes his eyes. Suddenly, before Arthur's eyes, his battle against the Guardian plays out... and then, just as suddenly, it is the Sand Queen fighting the old Guardian, and then, just as suddenly, a man that Arthur cannot recognize, with a strange green creature at his side and the Golden Automaton alongside him as well. Words are spoken - both the Sand Queen and the mysterious man turn to face Arthur and move their lips, but space reminds quiet. Then, once more, Arthur is on the ocean floor, facing upwards. Staring into the abyss. Water in his lungs. Everything grows dark... dark... darker still. "You are not alone," whispers Ella kindly. The world fades to black. Arthur feels a smile form on his lips. Then air. Air... OoC: You may return to the topic! Quote
