Dr.Cogg Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 I, saw the BoFA today and now some of the sets make sense others are even more disappointing,to start: Lake town: is pretty accurate except for the Orcs in the set, they should have add some lake town soldiers instead. The witch King set: was accurate, but I wish the set was bigger and had Sauron, more Wraith and Saruman. Erebor: is a combination of DoS and BoFA, so its fine, except it could have been bigger with more gold. Now, for the Battle of Five Armies: this set should have Been a $100 dollar set and should have come with an Armored White Azog, an Armored elf, 2 Armored Orcs, A Troll, Armored Thranduil, more ruins of Dale and an Iron Hill Dwarf, Dain, Bard and Thorin are fine, But the Balista makes no sense in this set. Last set they should have made is Raven Hill: this set would be ruins of a fortress and come with Bolg, a Goblin, 2 Armored Orcs, Legolas, Tauriel and a War Bat. Here are the Groups in the movie:Gundabad Orcs, Armored Orcs, Trolls various types, Bats, Goblins, Giant Worms, Wargs, Wraith the 9, Sauron, Iron hill Dwarfs, Elves, Men of Lake Town, The White Council, Dwarfs of Erebor, Smaug, Rams ,Boar, Beorn and Eagles. cullmancreations Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 Yes I agree with you entirely, I saw BOTFA this sunday Quote
Lancethecat Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 (edited) The main reason why I have doubts that Bain is going to be a promotional DVD minifigure is that non-LEGO fans buying the DVD will have no clue who the character is supposed to be. They won't look at the minifigure and say, "Hey, that's Bard's son! I remember him from the movies!". They'll say, "Since when was Ron Weasley in The Hobbit? Is there some kind of fan-fiction crossover I don't know about?". Bilbo and Legolas are both very recognizable characters, but Bain looks nothing like he does in the movies, so there's no way for Warner Bros. to market this promotion. Giant worms? That sounds more like something from an 80's space novel than a Tolkien adaptation. Edited January 6, 2015 by Lancethecat Quote

There's an interesting article about them here if you're wondering whereabouts they appeared in Tolkien's work. Edited January 7, 2015 by bungeshea Quote
just2good Posted January 7, 2015 Author Posted January 7, 2015 Are we 100% sure that Bain really is going to be included with the next DVD release? Did it say so where you got the picture, just2good? Yeah, not sure. The site just showed the picture and said what who the figure was, check out the old link. Quote
MAB Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 The main reason why I have doubts that Bain is going to be a promotional DVD minifigure is that non-LEGO fans buying the DVD will have no clue who the character is supposed to be. Hobbit fans buying a Hobbit DVD might know who it is. They'd probably prefer Bolg or even an existing minifig such as Bilbo or Thorin or Azog more, but they'd probably know who Bain is. Of course, having an exclusive minifig opens up the DVD market to lego Hobbit collectors too (I've bought DVDs and games for minifigs with no interest in the DVD or game in the past), but having an exclusive character (not already done) would open it up to even wider buyers market. It does seem strange they went for Bain. Quote

I perfectly agree. It is the failed topic of "battle packs" again. BoTFA is a "battle pack" theme. We'd by them like mad if they'd publish them. Quote

mrfootball Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 (edited) At this point, I'll buy anything from Lego LOTR/The Hobbit. In a couple of years these sets will skyrocket in value. Though I don't care, I won't sell them. Just glad I got them when I had the chance. It's really about the minifigs. You can build/modify the sets in the range as you like, which is what I intend to do. Just glad we got what we got. Edited January 8, 2015 by mrfootball Quote

Yes, and in fact many people were doing this ten years or more ago (for LOTR). There are many yellow skinned custom LOTR figures out there, which slowly got better with things like the release of the CMF series 3 elf. The addition of the new official minifigs really gave some extra detail (and probably some inspiration) for the masses. It's a shame we don't have Gondor soldiers with the correct official printed parts or molded helmets, but people will get by after the official Middle Earth sets are done just as they got by before. Quote
Dr.Cogg Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 Yes, you can customize and moc new sets, but if your a purist, there is almost no way to make a Bolg or a Sauron or even an armored Witch King from the movies. Quote

Balbo Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 We actually have one Aragorn as Gondorian King, don't we? That's true, we got Aragorn as Elessar in the Battle at the Black set but the torso doesn't work that well for a Gondor soldier, because the torso is mainly blue. Quote

Ok, I did my own Gondor soldier (I need to take pictures, probably) but I stayed away from creating decals. Quote
kevkipo Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 Saw Bofa again today... Like Smaug said: What a pity... I would've loved more Battle stuff with Thorin and the goats And recreating my fave scene The Elves jumping over the Dwarves Quote
Bugbot2008 Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 Seeing the last hobbit movie made me quite angry with the battle of five armies set with respect to the presence of the massive ballista which wasn't in the film, and the absence of a troll which were quite common in the film and would have been a welcome bone for LOTR fans :/ Still, having the white council, the fellowship and the Thorin's company all complete is pleasing :) Quote
Bugbot2008 Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 (edited) Iv just seen some of the new ninjago sets in a store, something on the box art of 70748 caught my eye: this element used on the snake character, it looks perfect for orcs, colour the tan parts grey and you could easily use it for Bolg! Though I don't care, I won't sell them. Just glad I got them when I had the chance. Exactly--the prices will be through the roof. That's why I had to get The Lonely Mountain (aka "set with Smaug") now. If I have time, money, and space later, I will still get the Goblin King Battle, and the two Dol Guldur sets, but Smaug is the main thing. The lowest price for that dragon alone on Bricklink is about 55 USD. Compare that to the Hungarian Horntail from "Harry Potter," which came in a $30 set....yeesh (see below): http://www.bricklink...7561&colorID=88 Yeah, I'm glad I bought Smaug now. Quote

DarthLeapyous Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 I wish that there was a Ravenhill set with Armoured Azog, Bolg some and some NEW orcs....the ones in the battle of the five armies set are inaccurate to the movie because of the lack of armour which is a real shame. Still, I recently got The Lonely Mountain and it's amazing. Quote
