lomis Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 Alright, so, yeah this is something. Sure, it's the cheapest way to get the new bandana, but it's only $7 cheaper than the Treasure Island set. It's $13! Ridiculous. The blue coat is the same here as in the Treasure Island set, and the pirate isn't unique, the build is pretty weak unless you attach it to the Treasure Island build, and the play features are not unique at all. I don't know why I hadn't thought of this before but I completely agree with you on the price point for this set. It's surprising this set is $13 USD when compared to what you get with the $20 Treasure Island set. Also, the closest comparison I can think of is the 2009 set 6239 - Cannon Battle, which was $6 USD. Sure, that set had fewer pieces: 45 in 6239 versus 84 in the new 70409. But the sets are pretty close to the same in many ways (two mini figures, a cannon, a stationary piece that reacts to being shot). Also, if you were to buy two of 6239 you would get 90 pieces, four figures, and two cannons at $12 USD, which is still cheaper than 70409. I understand that it was released 6 years ago, but that's still a big difference in my opinion. Quote
Khaled Yousef Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 The sets look awesome, but I’m not too crazy about the palm trees, they’re the worst version in all the Pirates lines that ever came out since 1989. But then again, everything else about this line is terrific, so I can’t complain. Quote
Lind Whisperer Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 They both have the same element ID. Somehow, just2good must have gotten an error piece. It may be worth more in the future. I actually got an error piece in a vintage MISB 6236-1: King Kahuka. It had sat in that box for almost two decades, only for me to open it, and find out that the minifig machine had messed up. Kahuka was missing his right hand! I still haven't put in a replacement hand yet. Quote
Matthias Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 I once saw a Bluecoat Soldier on Ebay where the blue printing was missing. So he was more a whitecoat soldier. Quote

Mencot Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 Whoopsie whoa, were did you find this? Looks good, altough a few of the pieces look a bit childish. Is there images of the solider side, there seems to be a blondehaired woman as queen. Quote
jodawill Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 Wouldn't it make a lot more sense if the bluecoat king was actually a king? What the heck? He's wearing a shako? Quote
Hive Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 That chess set has too few figures and not enough variety between the figures it does have. Quote
Matthias Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 That chess set has too few figures and not enough variety between the figures it does have. Yes and if you make it with less variety than the soldiers shall have epaulettes, backbacks and shakos. It is disapointing like 2009er chess. Quote

Mencot Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 Found this in Malaysia LEGO Store. Here's the back of the box. :D Thanks, what was the price there? Wouldn't it make a lot more sense if the bluecoat king was actually a king? What the heck? He's wearing a shako? Yes, that is strange. He should be wearing a bicorn or white wigor the long white wig the CMF judge has IMO. That chess set has too few figures and not enough variety between the figures it does have. Hmm, shakos for the soliders but it is nice to see all have a diffrence in hair piece or color. But the Rook, Knight and Bishop should had been minifigures on a brickbuilt thing also not just brickbuilt stuff. LAME Yes and if you make it with less variety than the soldiers shall have epaulettes, backbacks and shakos. It is disapointing like 2009er chess. Yes it is but IMO better then the Kingdoms chess, if not considering the change of chesspieces form minifigures to brickbuilt pieces. And why does that one guy with the surferhair and wacky smile have a bread Quote
Sigolf Brimabane Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 Only one shako in the chess set? D: Quote
baby Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 Thanks, what was the price there? Is MYR 250 One of the pirate use banana instead of sword too. Quote
tafkatb Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 (edited) US price is $59.99 if I recall correctly. I expect these to start showing up in stateside LBR stores middle of next week. Edited February 14, 2015 by Tragic Banjo Quote
GeneralWashington420 Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 Maybe he is king of the Shako soldiers? :/ Quote
blarghiflargh Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 Pretty cheap that the soldiers don't seem to come with the shakos and that not all the pieces are minifigures. Sorely disappointed in how this turned out, honestly. Quote
Matthias Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 He is more the king of a teeny Justin bieber carnival gang armed with deadly baguette encased in bluecoat bodice. Quote
Robert8 Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 Pretty cheap that the soldiers don't seem to come with the shakos and that not all the pieces are minifigures. Sorely disappointed in how this turned out, honestly. LEGO knows a lot of people buy the sets just for the minifigures, in this case, the Imperial soldiers. If they release a bunch of soldiers in just 1 set, that could affect the selling of the others, that's why they come without the shakos Quote
legofanatic12 Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 The female pirate in the chess set reuses the previous torso instead of the one from the new treasure island set. Quote
Artifex Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 Found this in Malaysia LEGO Store. Here's the back of the box. :D So is this is for Pirates 2015? Lego usually releases a chess set by the end of a line, isn't it? I do hope I'm wrong. =/ Quote
David Thomsen Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 I like the way the board is also a box to store the pieces in, and I find it cute that one soldier has a baguette, but everything else is very disappointing. One shako? Only two different types of non-leader pirate torso? It almost seems like they made it out of spare pieces, and found they didn't have enough shakos left and too many of these two pirate torsos. The brick-built pieces seem mismatched as well, some too big and some too small. I also think they got some of the pieces mixed up in the photo, the weird plinth (?) objects are used as bishop on one side and knight on the other. I was unlikely to get this anyway, but it seems like a definite pass now. I don't think this is the 'end' of the theme, it's impossible to predict what Lego are going to do based on what they have done before. A lot of 'rules' and 'patterns' that people observe don't really work indefinitely. Quote
jodawill Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 So it seems that the universal consensus is that this chess set sucks, but it may be good for parting out to sell on BrickLink. Note that the board is sideways in the box photo. Cons: • New bandanas • Only one shako • The king is… a soldier? • Ugly palm tree • No monkeys • The island looks like a heap of random bricks thrown together at the last minute • The castles look very not-castle-like and… a small barrel is supposed to represent a pirate ship for the pirate castle? • The studs on the squares are centered, so the minifigures will always be misaligned Pros: • Price is good In my opinion, this is the most disappointing set of the year. I will only buy it if the part out value is really good. I won't buy one to keep, for sure. Quote
