Hi all,

I've recently started to pick up the last wave or so of Harry Potter sets as I was coming out of my dark ages as they were released so I kind of missed them.

I recently saw an exhibition of magic and part of the HP section was Lego kits of 4738 Hagrids Hut and 4842 Hogwarts and loved them... Hence recent orders.

I must admit it's only these final waves I like as far as minifigures go. The previous yellow and earlier flesh variants look poor in comparison (just my opinion).

I was wondering how compatible the older 4709 and 4757 sets are with the later kits? Is the grey and green used in the builds the same for the walls and turrets or could you tell if they were combined?

Any help you can give will be beneficial in whether I try and track down the older sets.

Thanks in advance.

I think they are compatible, except 4709 would need A LOT of editing to fit in :sceptic:

Anyway, I got the 2011 Hogwarts on eBay recently for £23.00 (It was sold as spares, but only missing 2 common arches, a rock attachment and 2 not-that-important figs  ) and it looks great on my son's city layout, right near Mirkwood and the Air Temple  .

4709 is quite old, so old in fact that it uses old light grey, as opposed to the light bley that appears in ever set since 2004. If you're going for total color matching, it's probably not your best bet, although the difference between light grey and light bley is (imo) far less noticeable than the difference between dark grey and dark bley. 4757 is new enough that the color matching should be fine.

Also, don't forget 2011's 4867, which while smaller, was intended to be an expansion pack for 4842 and is built in the same style, and comes with some great useful minifigs.

Thanks for the info... I've got 4867 Hogwarts, 4840 The Burrow, 4866 The Knight Bus, 4738 Hagrids Hut and 4865 Forbidden Forest.

I'll keep watching for a 4842 to see if anything comes up and stays relatively well priced... I'll also keep an eye out for 4757 although hopefully I can find one without the figs which should keep things low.

Well I've just got a boxed and complete 4842 for a touch over £100. After looking round at what they normally go for on eBay and BL that wasn't too bad.

Can't wait to get them build and displayed now... just got to dismantle my Falcon and a few other bits to make room!

Best find is a 4841 Hogwarts Express with just a few pieces missing for £36!
