ajne429 Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 Hi, While looking for some used RC toys for my son, I got a spybotics set. It was complete except for the serial cable. I was wondering if it would be possible to program without a cable. Also if it is possble to make a replacement cable. Also would it possible to control the Spybotics bot from a PDA(HP iPAQ) thru the IR port. Thanks Paul Quote
JM1971 Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 I think serial has been phased out of pc mobos, there are usb converters if you pc does not have one. http://www.bricklink.com/search.asp?q=spybotics%20serial%20cable Quote
DrJB Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 (edited) your best bet is to get a cable off bricklink (link in prior post). From my recollection, the end that connects to the spybot uses red light, not infra-red. Edited February 9, 2014 by DrJB Quote
Philo Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 That's indeed the only solution. Spybotics cable contains a red LED and a phototransistor, converting RS232 serial levels to/from light. This end plugs into spybotics that contains opposite optoelectronics elements. Quote
LegoPanda Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 sorry to bumb the topic, i also got two spybotics sets without a cable (red and purple ones) is there really no other option than to use the original cables? Quote

Yes, to my knowledge, the only option is to use the original Lego cables . Those were very proprietary and difficult (if not impossible) to reverse-engineer. Check Bricklink, they're about $10.00 Quote
