saahmad Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 Great review. I will definitely buy it after the price comes down for the power functions assortment is great as well. Quote
kennywest Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 What a great review for a great set. I can't wait to get my hands on one of those. Probably a very off topic question, but how do you take your pictures, because they are really, really good. I am trying to do some reviews myself, but my pictures are still poor :( Quote

Since you can't use the PM system yet (after 10 posts), I have sent you an email. Ladder - the real Volvo has two ladders - each on one side. You can see it on this video: https://www.youtube....H49hAA0eI#t=108 I really don't understand why the LEGO set has ladder only on one side. I'm looking into this by the way. Maybe I can shed some light on it. Quote

barman Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 Hi Jim, thank for the excellent and detailed review of this set. I know from experience that these review take so many hours. I appreciate this very much. This one will be added to the collection, but with another big set there is no shelf space any more... Properly will be modifying this set. The steering will definitely be replaced by 2 mini LA's for better control and more realism. Filling in the gaps and will be looking into the gap between the cabin and top part of the loader. This looks like 4 or 5 studs, but should be 1 or 2. Quote

PeterZeppelin Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 Nice that the Stickers will be used on the b model, too. Quote
Jim Posted June 6, 2014 Author Posted June 6, 2014 Hi Peter, Welcome to EB! Including dedicated B-model stickers is indeed quite uncommon (afaik). I also have some insights about the steps on the left side of the vehicle, which I have updated in the review. The steps used to be on both sides, but they removed them on the left side. STEPS The image of the real Volvo on the inside of the box shows the steps on the left side of the vehicle, while they are mounted on the right side of the LEGO version. After some research I found out that the L350F used to have the steps on both sides of the cab, but it was not a safe solution for the operator when he had to climb up the steps into the cab with a lunch box. So late last year Volvo changed the design and eliminated the steps on the left side and made the steps on the rear fender standard. Another cool feature that Volvo included was the “remote door opener”, so as the operator approaches the machine, he presses the remote door opener and the door opens automatically and the entrance lights shine down on the steps for additional safety when climbing into the cab when it is dark. Sure....but that will take a month or so I have a 42009 still in the box and both other flagships are broken down to parts. Quote
rener Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 (edited) Other sets with stickers for A and B models are 8880, 8480 and 8458. Edited June 6, 2014 by rener Quote

I'm afraid I got really attached to my copy. Otherwise I would send it right away Other sets with stickers for A and B models are 8880, 8480 and 8458. Sweet! Didn't know that. Something with dark ages and stuff Thanks for the info. Quote

rener Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 Sweet! Didn't know that. Something with dark ages and stuff Thanks for the info. You're very welcome! Tried to post pics of the sticker sheet, but I failed. Need to practice a bit if I really want to enter the MINI-MOC contest! A good thing by the way you didn't place 8265 behind 42030 on your last picture; it would almost completely disappear! Quote
Marin Stipković Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 (edited) I was pretty sure I'll get this set even when I saw the preliminary pictures and videos. I was even surer when I read through your review. Then I saw the comparison with 8265 (which I own and loved) and there's not a doubt in my mind I'm getting this set. If for nothing else then for the PF stuff. I guess no V2 receiver's for me... Unless I get the crawler too. Thanks for the review! Edited June 6, 2014 by Marin Stipković Quote
saahmad Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 Does anyone has an idea when will this set arrive in stores Quote
JulRibs Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 I hope they release it on time here. It would be awesome if i could get this set in celebration of my 18th birthday. Quote
Foggy Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 Hi Jim, thanks for your pics even if I was thinkin at just a single side pictures from each set with low boom, anyway what maybe many don't like is the big hole just under the cabin and yes should be filled in or covered with something. For example i like the efferman replica http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=91975&hl=%2B42030+%2Breplica in the front because it looks massive. One difference is that he placed the motor just under the cabin so that space is filled, maybe a good final set should be a mix between the original mid rear and efferman's mid front with mini LAs steering as well Thanks again Jim. p.s. still waiting for book pages number Quote
Jim Posted June 7, 2014 Author Posted June 7, 2014 I will provide the pictures, but I had already taken these. Will make new ones and lookup the number of pages Quote
Jim Posted June 8, 2014 Author Posted June 8, 2014 The book has 313 pages! Actually a bit more, but the instructions count 313 pages. Quote
