Reg the ARC Trooper Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 (edited) Hi! Some of my clone troopers helmet are yellowed(i used hydrogen peroxide but after 3 days they had yellowed again). I have idea to repaint them again but i have no idea how to bypass black painting on helmet (viewer). Any ideas how to make it? Maybe should i tape these viewers (its method from painting cars)? What should i use? What do u think about white perma marker? Edited June 21, 2014 by Reg the ARC Trooper Quote
CustomJoe_MD Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 (edited) You will need to mask the area you don't want to paint (blue tape and an x-acto) you can try painting liquid latex over the areas to mask too, but at that scale it's going to be a pain to save the black. If you have the talent just paint over the entire thing and then repaint the black. Plastiline is a good alternative to use if you don't have latex available. Or abs paint, sand the part a little where it's yellow and then make some from acetone and shavings of new white parts, just make sure its thin enough to refill the sanded parts. You are going to a lot of trouble for such a small detail, I RESPECT that. http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=96498 this will help with some of that restauration project Edited June 21, 2014 by CustomJoe_MD Quote
Reg the ARC Trooper Posted June 21, 2014 Author Posted June 21, 2014 I will try to mask area. My mom has manual and art skills so she will do it for me (i have too big fingers and im not so good in art/painting) ;] Quote
CustomJoe_MD Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 (edited) Have you tried the peroxide thing and then let them in the sun in a plastic container. I'm not 100% thats how its done but I recall some talk about this before. OR http://midibox.org/forums/topic/12218-retr0bright-get-rid-of-the-yellowing-on-your-old-abs-plastic/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Retr0bright Not sure it won't remove the black though. I never id this so do a test beforehand, you can make your own solution of this stuff at home. Edited June 21, 2014 by CustomJoe_MD Quote
Reg the ARC Trooper Posted June 22, 2014 Author Posted June 22, 2014 I tried peroxide. The bricks looked brand new but after 2-3 days they were yellowing back... Quote

Reg the ARC Trooper Posted June 24, 2014 Author Posted June 24, 2014 (edited) Is the acrylic paint waterproof? I found Revell paint for plastic models - what do u think aout her? Edited June 24, 2014 by Reg the ARC Trooper Quote
Wardancer Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 I often use Revell paint. It is cheap and works well, but for bigger areas i prefer Citadel. Revell is enamel as described in the link above. Quote
Reg the ARC Trooper Posted June 24, 2014 Author Posted June 24, 2014 (edited) I want use paint to small details on my minifigs - so you are right - i have to use revell. Thx for reply Gloss or Mat? Edited June 24, 2014 by Reg the ARC Trooper Quote
Wardancer Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Glossy is closer to real lego, although sometimes it can be too glossy. Some colors are only available in one or the other. Try it out, if you dont like it, you can use transparent glossy or matte to change the surface afterwards. Quote
