Blufiji Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 (edited) After the initial surge of hand soldiers into the Moruth Swamps, the forces of Nocturnus began to stem the tide and push back, essentially creating a perimeter that divided the swamp in half. To solidify their hold, droves of Goblins, Orcs and various other tribes began to build fortifications on every stable outcrop and rock face in the swamps. These out posts, known as Beacon Towers, are designed to alert the people of Nocturnus of any sizable incursion of hand forces, allowing for a quick and effective counter attack. A Orc general is seen here passing through on a giant salamander, inspecting the towers and scouting locations for new ones. Along with knowledge of the swamps, this is the primary advantage that Nocturnian Armies hold on this battlefield. The Giant Salamander is a powerful war mount, native to northern edges of the swamps. They can go and fight where horses and siege engines cannot. It is dressed in heavy wooden armor, as metal armor wold drown the beast as it wades and swims across the deeper pools, and the wood is buoyant, supporting some of the beast's weight and absorbing water, a wonderful defense against flame arrows. Slegengr Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 Amazing creation, blufiji! That swamp looks perfect with the vegetation and colors used! The stonework and roof are particularly nice on the fortress! The giant salamander looks interesting with the wooden armor, but it is a bit bulky (as is the usual case with armor added to molded creatures). I do think it works well for what I perceive to be a slow, lumbering beast. The swamp trees look really neat as well. The beacon on the battlements is a great idea! Quote
Graham Gidman Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 The use of the Dewback is just so cool! Quote
MassEditor Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 Boom! Now here's an excellently done Nocty build! The castle looks great, especially how you built it up from the surrounding landscape. The bonfire up top is a great touch. Love the swamp too, great choice in colors and vegetation! And that giant salamander with the wooden armor... awesome! Overall, a superbly done build... so glad you decided to join Nocturnus! You're definitely making an awesome contribution to the guild! Quote
Blufiji Posted January 12, 2015 Author Posted January 12, 2015 Slegenger: When I was building this, I knew I wanted to add a war mount of some sort. I felt that horses or elephants wouldn't really fit, but a giant slow moving armored salamander... YES! It took roughly 8 hours to build that armor in a way that said "bulk". I like how it came out! Thanks for your comment sir it's very appreciated! Graham: lol thank you sir! ME: Glad you enjoyed the build and I'm happy to be building for Team Nocty! Quote
mpoh98 Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 Lovely work, the castle is fantastic! The Giant Salamander is awesome as well! Quote
mrcp6d Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 This is awesome! Like MassEditor said, the color choices are spot on, and I'm really impressed with the foliage--it looks dense, but you restrained yourself enough that it doesn't clutter the build. Quote
Hyler Talliwell Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Great build. I really love the stocky castle, the landscaping is perfect, and the dewback is hilariously brilliant. Really, really great stuff, just what I love to see in Nocturnus. Quote
TheUtilityBelt Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 ARMORED DEWBACK *Gasps in awe* I've been wanting to put my new dewback to use and now know the exact way to do so! The swamp looks eerily lovely and the idea is quite unique. Quote
Blufiji Posted January 13, 2015 Author Posted January 13, 2015 Vitroleum, Mpo, Mrc, Hyler: Thanks! Very appreciative of you guys stopping in and commenting. TheUtilityBelt: feel free to borrow and expand on the idea anytime..it just seemed wrong not to armor that dewback up somehow. Quote
Lord Vladivus Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Damn. I'll be buying the cantina to add a giant salamander to my forces! Lord Vladivus has seen the Orcs gathering- I'm sure he'll send some emissaries to them soon! Glad to see you in Nocty, great to see your contributions! Quote
Brick Man Studios Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Nice entry ! I really love the ground and the foliage ! Quote
Kai NRG Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Great work here, your landscaping is good and the castle architecture is very nice too! I also really like the dk tan slopes leading up to it, Quote
soccerkid6 Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Definitely an imposing tower, the squat look works well here The layout and windows are excellent as well. Very good Nocty landscape too, and that is one impressive mount! Quote
Captain Braunsfeld Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 The dewback is ok - I am actually more impressed by the building and the swamp. Dark tan underneath a light grey castle seems to look good. I like the design of the building! And this greenish watery thing is just great! Quote
de Gothia Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Some sweet landscape and that tower is impressive! Sweet details and love the salamander! Quote
Blufiji Posted January 14, 2015 Author Posted January 14, 2015 Lord Vladivus, Brick Man, Kai, Soccerkid, and Gothia: Thanks for your critiques. Definitely appreciated to get all of you guys' input. Bruansfield: I wanted to see how dark tan would come out. I didn't think dark bley would go well here as the swamp is mostly filled with earth tones. Glad to I'm not the only one who likes it. Quote
LordDan Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 Fantastic build!!! The swamp landscaping is great and the beacon tower itself is really neat, especially the fire on top! The background description is also very good, and the giant salamander is really cool!! Quote
MKJoshA Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 You said this was a "simple" freebuild. Nothing simple about it! This is amazing! Great work on the swamp details, castle details, and of course the dewback! Quote
Jorrith Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 Wow! What a fantastic build! Love the beacon tower, and that warmount! But there's so much to like, the foliage is also excellent, and i like the color green you used for the water, it really gives it that swampy feel. Quote
Gideon Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 Excellent build! So much to like here...the details on the tower (like the windows and the unlit beacon), the landscaping (especially the foliage) and of course the armored beast. Keep up the great work! Quote
Blufiji Posted January 18, 2015 Author Posted January 18, 2015 LordDan, MK, Jorrith, Gideon: Thanks Guys! Quote
Mike S Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Great build! The swamp and tower look awesome! Quote
ZCerberus Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Excellent work! I love the atmosphere. Nailed the swamp look. Quote
