Landlubber Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 I'm afraid I cant do a full proper review of this house, because at the time of opening the box(es) I had the idea of MOC'ing 2 sets into 1 large house , so I never actually built the set as it was intended to be. (But I think my way is better) The other problem is that I didn't take any photo's at construction time, because I didn't realise that no-one else had the set yet and figured Europe would have gotten it way before us convicts down under. Set- 4954 Tan Creator House. Pieces- Lots and lots. Box is huge and heavy. Price- RRP $99.95AU What I paid- Myer were kind enough to have a sale the day it came out. $80. Bought 3 houses plus 3 or 4 of every new 2007 city set. Build time- Same as the running time of the Rocky and Bullwinkle Movie with commercials. (Don't look at me like that. It was Sunday, absolutely freezing outside, I had the whole house to myself and there was nothing else on tv while I was building) . Please note however that was the build time for the double size where I was doing most things twice. I didn't build the cars or garages though. First up, heres the back of the box and the 3 instruction booklets that come with it. As usual, there are plenty of bags in there with parts sorted partially to size and colour. The best thing about it is the number of black roof tiles. Its hard to get large amounts of tiles these days. Ebay prices for a bulk lot of roof tiles usually reach some stupid figure. There is also a real large amount of tan bricks, which as far as I know are pretty hard to find, well over here they are anyway. You have to be careful during construction, as the corners where the walls meet aren't built very solidly and the whole house rely's on the roof for its structural integrity. The headlight bricks and 1x2 grey tiles make a real good looking pattern at the corners but aren that strong a building technique. The back wall is just plain, but I'm sure you could do something about it. The house has no interior whatsoever. Not even a floor for the second story. Well... um..... here's the front....... And again, this time WITHOUT A FLASH! Hey, reviewing isn't easy you know. Especially when you don't even build the set properly. I'm a builder, not a talker. Anyway, heres another of the front, a slightly tighter shot of the front door. And here are the parts I had left over. You may have to tilt your head cause I had already uploaded the photo's and CBF'd redoing that one. Overall, it's a pretty good set. It's not overly complicated but it's not too simple either. It makes for a good town filler and with the addition of a few bits can become a fully functioning minifig scale house. Pricewise I think it's well worth the money as you get a good selection of doors, windows and tiles, which are always handy when building buildings. There aren't too many bad points, mainly the lack of interior but thats not hard to fix. If you get the chance I suggest you buy this set. Quote
Lt. Col. Thok Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 Wow, that looks like a perfect addition to my town. Tell me, is it mini-fig scale? Quote
dunamis Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 Thanks for the review and photos. They had this set in stock at the LEGO store and I passed it up. I might try to catch it on sale. It does look like a nice build though. Quote
Grand Moff Viceroy Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 good price for a large set, thought it would be smaller. I think it is minifig scale. Quote
Asuka Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 A nice review, a neat set and a very fine MOC indeed. Tan dreams on! *y* Quote
Wout Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 Nice review and nice moc *y* :-) I wanted already 2 years a house with black rooftiles and a house with tan walls. A bit expensive, but great contents. Quote

Paradosis Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 Thanks for the review! I'm thinking about buying two of these for Christmas... that'd add up to a pretty nice, large house. Quote
ExoBuilder Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 I plan on getting this one for Christmas but does anyone know if its mini-fig scale? Quote
