WesternOutlaw Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 This is my first attempt to build a western stagecoach inspired by a Wells Fargo coach: Although very simple and not very detailed, this took be a long time to build: Getting off the stagecoach. 2 mini-figs can sit inside without their hats. Closer view: A view of the rear compartment: Much of my loose pieces are in storage and I was rather limited in what I had to work with. Despite this, I don't think it came out too bad at all. For the Western fans, let me know what you think. Quote
Hobbes Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 :oo :oD Really, this looks great! I believe you that it took you some time and I think it is detailed after all. The bricks above the windows, for example, I find a nice detail, they add to the "coachey" look. The "hatch" at the back is simple yet leaves no doubt what it's supposed to be. The "flap" in the front looks nice. Lovely MOC. And not just because I like the Western theme but I'm not that a skilled MOC builder and like simple things ;) Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted November 22, 2005 Governor Posted November 22, 2005 The Brickster, I was looking through the Wester sets and I noticed there wasn't an official stage coach. I thought such a vehicle was essential for this times and was surprised LEGO hadn't created one as a set. You have succeeded where LEGO had neglected! Quote
ApophisV Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 Great MOC, perfect addition to any western collection! *y* Have you tried to use brown wheels? The top half of the black ones is hard to see because of the black bottom of the vehicle... Quote
xwingyoda Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 I truly hate those darn dark ages !!!! I lack every western sets !!! Therefore it was good to look at your reviews ;) I really like your stagecoach, its a western must have :oD Great moc indeed, it has a great design and lovely details !! If only Lego "gave" us more dark red parts !!!! Show us more western mocs !!! Too many pirates mocs lately (smiling at Phes :D :P ). Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted November 22, 2005 Governor Posted November 22, 2005 I haven't created a single Pirate MOC so its nothing to do with me :D Quote
snefroe Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 nice moc! reminds me a lot of the playmobil stagecoach of so many years ago... Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted November 22, 2005 Governor Posted November 22, 2005 Is this what you refer to Count Sneffy? Quote
snefroe Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 Is this what you refer to Count Sneffy? yep Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted November 22, 2005 Governor Posted November 22, 2005 The Brickster, had you seen the Playmobil Stage Coach before? Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted November 22, 2005 Author Posted November 22, 2005 Thanks for the nice compliments. I honestly don't make too many MOCs myself. I never seem to have the right pieces and/or the right colors - and they never seem to come out. I'm surprised too that lego never made one for the wild west sets. In regard to the Playmobil coach, yes, I have both the newer yellow mail coach as well as the red one from an Anniversary set. I didn't use it as a proto-type when building this though (it's burried in the garage). Ironic that it came out rather similar after looking at the images. Brown wheels would probably look better. I have large brown (from the graveyard duel) but not the smaller for the front. Yellow plates on the bottom would probably look good too and contrast nicely. Now I like it! Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted November 22, 2005 Author Posted November 22, 2005 Here's an image of a great coach MOC that I saw on 1000steine. The person who built this has done some great Western MOCs. This is what I meant when I said detailed - you can see the big difference. It's also 6-studs wide giving the figs a lot of room. Quote
SuvieD Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 Yours is sleeker and being four wide more likely closer to something LEGO would do. I think you have done an excellent job capturing the needed details to have a stagecoach. A little refinement is all it would need to be great. Messing with the placing of parts and using plates instead of bricks will allow you more accurate details. Good job! Quote
blueandwhite Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 Nice work. If your looking to improve it though, you might want to consider lowering it a bit. As it currently stands, it looks as if your coach is riding a bit too high. You could also try moving the rear wheels back a tad. Still, its a pretty solid design. Later. Quote
Hobbes Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 Hmm... you know what? I don't like the yellow one. I think yours is nicer. And I like that's it's higher up. I can't put a finger on what I don't like about the yellow one yet, I just don't like it that much (although it sure is a good MOC). Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted November 22, 2005 Author Posted November 22, 2005 I made some of the changes that you guys recommended and added some custom decals. I think it came out pretty good (if I don't say so myself). I like the pieces above the windows on the yellow moc (as covers for the windows). If I had four of these, I think it would add to the detail. Close up: Trunk: Quote
snefroe Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 that's really nice! however, i think 4 studs is really small... you'd see that very well if you take a pic of the front. suppose you take 6 studs... Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted November 22, 2005 Author Posted November 22, 2005 Six would allow more space in the cab, but I'd have to revamp the wheels and almost rebuild completely. I think I'll leave it four. Quote
Sting Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 Six would allow more space in the cab, but I'd have to revamp the wheels and almost rebuild completely. I think I'll leave it four. Awesome MOC Brickster! You make a Wild West Fan Proud! And don't worry about making a 6 stud one yet... one day you can do that... then you'll have 2 awesome Stage Coats! That yellow one is prettty sweet too. Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted November 22, 2005 Author Posted November 22, 2005 Thanks Sting. I just found this pic on Brickshelf. Not being partial, I think I like mine better. But the yellow one is nicely done and probably the best that I've seen. Brickshelf Stagecoach Quote
blueandwhite Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 Great improvements! Setting the wheels back, and adding runners for the passengers to step on when exiting the coach make this an even better MOC. I feel your MOC is 'cleaner' than the 2 six-wide coaches you've shown. If you decide to build a wider coach, I would suggest going five-wide. I feel that minifig vehicles look really good at that width. six-wide can be a tad too fat, and four-wide is just a bit too slim. Still, your improvements are fantastic. A worthy coach if there ever was one. Later. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted November 23, 2005 Governor Posted November 23, 2005 Six would allow more space in the cab... Yes, leg room is really important :D Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted November 23, 2005 Author Posted November 23, 2005 The main advantage is it make the inside more "playable", esp if I can make the top lift off. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted November 23, 2005 Governor Posted November 23, 2005 Does anybody know if the Playmobil Stage Coach included any figures, or if figures could be put inside of it? Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted November 23, 2005 Author Posted November 23, 2005 The top of the yellow coach lifted off allowing two figs to sit down on both sides (if I recall correctly). I would imagine the red one did the same. Playmobil 3803 Coach Quote
