Front Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 Cyclops Blue Built, refined, rebuilt, refined, hands still too big. Comments are welcomed. Quote
Devorath Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 Wow. I really like it, but I agree, the hands are too big. Quote
BlueberryWaffles Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 I love this guy! He's amazing! Quote
Cirkit Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 (edited) It's a giant cyclops with a wicked hairdo. It looks really, really good. I feel the torso's a tad long for the body, or maybe the legs are too short for the torso, either way something feels off there. I don't mind the size of the hands, they look solid enough and have the posing ability that most hands have, and that I like. Besides, it's a cyclops, a creature of fiction. Surely it would be okay to imagine it with non-human proportions? That statement throws my complaint about the torso out the window. The build is solid, and makes great use of certain pieces- the Arachnix bug shell and the 'speaker' parts from Stringer work very well here, and I like seeing those double-cup connectors in use on the feet. Useful pieces, those are. That, and all that delicious blue. Surprised by how little of it is translucent, but there's lots of it spread out evenly throughout the body, and I really like how it looks. You said you'd go big, and I believe it- this Cyclops of yours is large, and in-charge(maybe.. I just wanted to rhyme ), and is a very impressive piece of work. DraikNova Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 Awesome. Armored. Insane. Build. First off, there's the arm design, which, while needing some work, is a lot better than most solutions. Then there's the bulky torso, where every part that could be used to make an organic, filled-in shape is, well...used. And then there's the awesome idea for the feet, posable, but still stable. The legs are basically the Fire Lord design, right? Quote
howie28 Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 That is really nice. I'm loving the trans-blue, and the legs. Whenever I make MOC's this big the legs are always too skinny. And why can I not see any friction joints? A creation of that magnitude must need some friction joints to hold it up, right? Quote
Front Posted February 24, 2013 Author Posted February 24, 2013 (edited) Thank you all for feedback. Aanchir gave some on flickr too: Neat design. My biggest criticism is that the torso seems awfully columnlike and out-of-proportion with the legs. The armor also feels somewhat inconsistent and leaves several conspicuous gaps. But structurally I'm quite impressed with several features of this model, particularly the legs and feet which seem to draw inspiration from Christoffer Raundahl's MOC at LEGO World. He is very right, and I've already redone this moc with shorter torso, but also all new colour scheme. Wow. I really like it, but I agree, the hands are too big. Yes, but hard to make them smaller. Maybe I just need the rest of the model to be larger. I love this guy! He's amazing! Thank you It's a giant cyclops with a wicked hairdo. ....... It looks really, really good. That is really nice. I'm loving the trans-blue, and the legs. Whenever I make MOC's this big the legs are always too skinny. And why can I not see any friction joints? A creation of that magnitude must need some friction joints to hold it up, right? There are no (high) friction joints at all in this model. When we were developing the high-friction-joints at LEGO, I had the personal view that they were really not needed. I get around achieving stability by adding complex linkages around the shoulders and hips. Not very set-friendly because of a large number of parts needed, and complex build with sometimes strange mechanisms that can lock up at certain angles of movement. But you can achieve high stability that way too. The number of possible multi-linkage joints is very large, and I have done a lot of experiments but am still far from having something perfect. One thing that is cool about high-friction-joints is that they can work as simple extenders of beams (bones), e.g. making C-type beams (with ball cup at each end), available in not only 3 and 5 module length, but 3, 4, 5, 6 etc. I will post the revised moc soon, colour scheme in Captain America style. Just need to figure out a good head design for that model. Erland Part Design Edited February 24, 2013 by Front Quote
DraikNova Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 Can't wait to see the revised version! Quote
