I know theres 9v trains. But how about planes (which would include passenger air planes)? It could be like airhog planes, and like the LEGO racers rc.

Post your comments about that here.

1/8/12 Edit: Also what about 9v race cars+helicopters?

Never in the history of never. What happens if you crash into a tree? Bye, bye lego parts. Interesting thought though.

You must either be joking or I must be reading this wrong. Are you saying that TLG should sell RC planes made of LEGO? If so, I give this a 0.00001% chance of happening. It's hard enough to make floating LEGO boats! Most RC planes are just a piece of shaped foam with an engine...

Could you imagine the saddening sound of tinkling lego falling from the sky into the ground below? And then the hopeless attempt to find all the pieces to realize half of them broke? The consumers would go ballistic!

You never know though; I have some friends into RC planes. They pay hundreds for their planes and seem happy to pay to fix them when they crash!

I don't even think that wings that could create lift could be possibly be built with bricks.

Given enough speed they could...

But this is lego, not 100 dollar( or maybe it would be :cry_sad:) stuff. Seeing the plane explode against a tree though, as long as its not yours, would be priceless though.

New super deluxe and ultra cool title for the first person who builds a 9v LEGO plane and crashes it into a tree, while recording video that they share online.

Dead serious here, I want to see this! :sweet:

Can I just build a plane and throw it at a tree?

Whether somebody would want to risk their precious LEGO bricks or not aside, could something like this actually work using just proper LEGO bricks? I envision that some kind of oversized LEGO glider with technic wings covers in cloth would work, but I don't think LEGO Motors have enough power to lift the weight of themselves or the rest of the plane.

You're on mate, I'm off to build one right now! :classic:

You could put a plane on a 9V motor and spin it around the tracks.

Thank you Hinckley and Sinner, you guys made my night

I thought that maybe a helicopter would work, but then realized that the motor and batteries would be way too heavy, even if they could be fit into an old System-scale chopper. Even those weigh too much. And I definitely do not want to see LEGO release bricks made of some special lightweight plastic or foam to make flying models; such a material would not stand up well over time or under abuse. I know once they tried them in flying models, they'd infiltrate other sets too, as I believe they'd probably be cheaper to make...

LEGO bricks are far too heavy and unwieldy for this. You could never get an aerodynamic shape.

Excuse me, but who the megablocks invited you and your logic into this discussion? Now talk about smashing battery powered LEGO planes against trees or get out!

Doofus.

I'm just having fun with you. Hope you thinks it's fun. Otherwise, I'll look like a real dick. :sceptic:

Anyway, back to your logic. Could never get an aerodynamic shape, huh? Well, what do you call this?

I can hardly stop that thing from flying.

There is a working hovercraft that runs on 9v motor and a technic axle frame with plastic sheets.

It barely glides, too heavy itself to carry payload.

Go watch it on youtube !

I only watch things that are linked.

I bet it's a Rick Roll. :hmpf:

Dick roll, it would seem.

Hilarious, too.

Maybe we should all change our avatars...

It's 9V enuogh.

Sinner is my resident technical expert, he's a real wanker about it, which just means he's damn good at the job. He says it's not, it's not.
