xenologer Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 The front view explains the title: Special aknowlegement to Mark Sandlin, creator of 3vil / Space Skulls. This ship is a reinterpretation of the fighter from the new Space Skulls set. Basically I wanted one, but didn't feel like waiting for the whole set. So made one myself, with a new wing configuration that was more to my liking. The 'face' is modified from the original (some areas toned down for streamlining). Best view: Engine and attitude jet 'spikes' seen from rear: Downside, it lacks the landing gear/opening jaw of the original, Just couldnt figure how to fit them in without altering the shape much more... But has a very cool wing configuration, I think it looks more menacing especially that front profile. Look really closely at how the wing angles were achieved, Not a well known construction method, but very good to know about. Yes according to calculations it really does fit. Brickshelf Quote
KDog Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 That does look awesome in its own right, but I miss the tailfin. Quote
Asuka Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 An interesting and clever design, these wings look really very good. *y* Quote
xenologer Posted April 17, 2008 Author Posted April 17, 2008 (edited) Cool update I've gone and ordered it. Check out the Real Bricks version: I was surprised at just how Heavy it was when assembled. It's very solid, all the bizzare construction in the rear to get the wing angles not only works in reality, its also very strong. One minus with that stuff though, is LDD was very confused when it came to drawing the instructions for this; its a bit of a puzzle to get all that interlocking stuff together in the right order. I'm very happy with the ship. Swoosh. Anyhows, based on my experience with the real version, I did decide to make a few changes, notably strengthening and adding detail to the lower wings. EDIT, updated model to work with new SJ bricks, added a Skull Pilot Heres the latest LDD file. Edited April 21, 2008 by xenologer Quote
