paanjang16 Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 I got my 8258 Crane Truck last week and spend the whole Saturday building it. When I opened the box which is still sealed and new I noticed that there is this "smiling" face stamp inside of the box. Has anyone gotten this before? Is it normal for Lego boxes to have this? Just curious. Quote

Modulex Guy Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 Interesting. Could it be some sort of quality control stamp? Smiley face for a good box and ready to pack? Maybe the reject boxes get a sad face? Or someone got bored at the factory and is playing around with stamps? Quote

I do like the idea of it being some bored worker. Quote
Tom Bricks Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 I actually think I've got this before too but I have no clue what it means. Quote
JCC1004 Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 I've never noticed them in any of mine. I usally only open the box's sides, so I don't see it. It's very strange. Quote
ProducePrincess Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 (edited) Are you sure it wasn't on your carpet before you opened the box and you just didn't notice it before? What you could try and do is email lego asking them about this to see if they know the answer I gotta say the face on that stamp has a really obnoxious smug feeling to it. Milan Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 I have quite a few new sets and never noticed this in my boxes. Quote
gratefulnat Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 The first time I saw this smiley face stamp was back in 2004, after opening Millenium Falcon 4504. There was this smiley face in the middle of the box. Needless to say, my feelings at that moment were absolutely reflected by the smiley face. I've seen it again in one of my indiana jones boxes from summer 2008, can't remember which though. I think it could be just a happy LEGO employee joking around, trying to have a little fun, as it seems to randomly appear in boxes of many different themes. Quote

Was it completely the same as this one in 8258 Crane Truck? Quote

Scorpion Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 Yes, it's exactly the same. The smiley man is stalking you... Beware... Quote
Siegfried Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 I've been assembling my 8258 and while I had no smiley stamp, I've been smiling a bit! (I've never had a smiley stamp...) Quote
Shadows Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 Quality assurance inspection stamp, I'm sure. Or someone was drinking that day. Either way. (I've never had a smiley stamp...) Just for you... Quote
Siegfried Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 Just for you... The image doesn't work, and the site wants me to "Check out Lonely Wives in your Area". Are you trying to tell me something? Quote
Captain Zuloo Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 Just for you... Dear lord, this is why we have 18 plus warnings before you register! Regarding the smiley face, I can't say I've ever come accross it before, but I've also only ever opened my sets from the side. Still, very interesting, and I'll be sure to ask next time I speak with someone who might be able to answer (designer, box worker ) for 'Behind The Helm'. Quote

Yes, I'm trying to tell you that even after 168 years on the internet, I still can't tell when that will happen because I'm too lazy to mirror a 2k file. Dear lord, this is why we have 18 plus warnings before you register! You I can chamber. Quote
Big Cam Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 I'm guessing its an actual employee who inspects the boxes as they are being printed to ensure it's not crooked and what not. (Quality Control) Quote
