Jurgen Krooshoop Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 (edited) I'd like to present my newest creation: The Sunbeam Supercar. Anyone who visited the BrickCon 2011 event (last weekend) had the chance of seeing this model in real life on Blakbird's Supercat table. After building a lot of models with Power Functions, it was time for a non-PF model. Ever since I built the Little Devilsportscar, I wanted to build a Yellow supercar. I chose Chevrolette’s Corvette sportscars as inspiration. It’s not an exact replica of a specific Corvette, but I tried to give it that typical Corvette-style. It took some time to collect enough yellow parts (mainly panels, flex-axles and angled connectors) and the 8043 Excavator set added quite a number of usefull parts. The functions of this model are: * All-Wheel-Drive * HOG-steering with working steering-wheel inside * Independent suspension * V8 engine * 6-speed gearbox, no reverse * Movable Chairs * Openable doors, trunk and hatch Drivetrain The All-Wheel Drive system uses three differentials, one on each axle and one to connect the 2 axles. For the manual gearbox I wanted to do something else than the regular 5+1 gearbox (as found in eg the 8448 and 8466). I decided to make a 6-speed version of it. For that, the reverse-gear had to be sacrificed. I wanted to include Hand-Of-God steering, to make steering the model convenient. The steering-drivetran was routed around the gearbox, connecting to the steering-control in the hatch. Chassis The chassis is made of a combination of studless beams with old-style studded technic bricks. This has 2 advantages: 1. It produces a very stiff chassis, which works well with the suspension. 2. It allows all the axles to be aligned very well, resulting in a smooth-running drivetrain. Instructions Complete step-by-step building instructions were created for this model. This time I used Lpub to compile all the Instruction-images and parts-list images. It saved a lot of time compared to using MS Word for this. Although Lpub isn’t as flexible, I intend to use it more often, for it allows me to make instructions faster, leaving more time for building. The building instructions can be found on the instructions-page of my website. Here is a direct link to the instructions. A special word of thanks goes out to Blakbird and Crowkillers for your help. Meatman Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 Awesome model!!! How is the steering? It looks a little tight with all of the rerouting work. Quote
vmln8r Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 Anyone who visited the BriCon 2011 event (last weekend) had the chance of seeing this model in real life on Blakbird's Supercat table. That's pretty cool, to see something you made halfway across the world. P.S. The link to the pdf file on the instructions page is missing. Quote
Jurgen Krooshoop Posted October 4, 2011 Author Posted October 4, 2011 (edited) Awesome model!!! How is the steering? It looks a little tight with all of the rerouting work. Steering-controll is a bit heavy, but that doesn't have to do with the rerouting (it works pretty smooth), but with the weight on the front-wheels. That's pretty cool, to see something you made halfway across the world. P.S. The link to the pdf file on the instructions page is missing. Weird, it is working on my computer, I just checked... Here is the direct link to the instructions. Carefull: it's a very big file ! Edited October 4, 2011 by Jurgen Krooshoop Quote

Strange, when I hover above "Instructions (PDF, 56,1 MB) there is no link. The links for your other models work fine. Quote
TechnicJuan Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 Very Very Impressive Mr. Krooshoop. But out of curiosity, why didn't you use this new part for your suspension? Quote
DLuders Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 @ Jurgen Krooshoop: I attended Brickcon 2011 in Seattle this past weekend, and saw your wonderful Sunbeam! It really has the appearance and "lines" of a Chevrolet Corvette. I want to build one just like Blakbird did for the AFOL convention! The public enjoyed seeing it among the Supercars display. Thanks for sharing your Building Instructions! @ VMLN8R: To download the Sunbeam's PDF Building Instructions, I just right-clicked on the direct link that Jurgen Krooshoop posted above and did "Save Target As" the desired folder on my hard drive. Kronos Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 On behalf of all AFOL's, I have to say thank you! Your creations are EXCELLENT! I enjoy going to your site and finding new things you've built to learn from. It's a GREAT day when I find new projects with instructions. Thanks again from an AFOL who has just recently come out of his dark ages. Quote
1980-Something-Space-Guy Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011  Drooling so badly for this model. Wow... I just... Love it. Thanks for sharing. I'm speechless now. Quote
technicmad Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 FYI I checked the download link on a few browsers and only IE works: - Chrome 14 - Firefox 5 - Firefox 7 - Safari 5 - IE 8 Quote
timslegos Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 wow beautiful MOC Jurgen!!!! Its lines are beautiful and they really capture the feel of the original car! Even if someone didn't know what Lego is, they would still be able to tell it is a Corvette. You are definitely a talented builder so keep it up ! tim Quote
Blakbird Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 As someone who has built this car I can confirm that it really is an excellent and strikingly beautiful model. It fit in easily with the best of the models on the supercar table (there were 11 in attendance). Thanks again to Jurgen for designing it and sharing the instructions with the world. To those waiting to build it, you will be happy to know that no #4 yellow angle connectors are required. Good luck with the 19L black flex axle though...... Quote
Jurgen Krooshoop Posted October 5, 2011 Author Posted October 5, 2011 (edited) FYI I checked the download link on a few browsers and only IE works: - Chrome 14 - Firefox 5 - Firefox 7 - Safari 5 - IE 8 So you mean anyone who doesn't have IE can't open the instructions ? That would s**k... Gotta fix that. I included a direct linkt to the instructions in my first opening-post. @ TechnicJuan: I didn't use the new part cause I don't own it... raulrgp Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 Great job!!!!! Thank you so much for the instructions. The direct link to the instructions in your first opening-post is working very good ;-) Quote
technicmad Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 I have added Jurgen's new supercar to the Rebrickable database: http://rebrickable.com/catalog/jurgen/sunbeam-corvette Quote
DLuders Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 @ Jurgen Krooshoop: On your Instructions webpage, were you going to add a "Parts List (Brickstore XML-file)" for the Sunbeam? There is no active hyperlink provided (yet).... Quote
Paul Boratko Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 Awesomely unique model... I feel privileged to have supplied you with a few hard to find pieces(but not hard to find for long ) Quote
skyliner Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 love the car!, thanks for the fantastic instructions, truly skilled. skyliner Quote
Erik Leppen Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 (edited) You're da bomb, Jurgen! Really, superb model! I usually dislike front-engine supercars, but I might need to revisit that statement It was kind of funny though, when I had downloaded the instructions and started them I thought, huh, do I have the wrong one? It's all studs :P Nice how you used studs in the inside where it's better and fully hide them away. By the way, great use of system parts in all kinds of places. Great how you managed to get a HOG in there. Like the hidden 16L axle by the way Edit: by the way how many hours did it take to create those beautiful instructions? Edited October 5, 2011 by Erik Leppen Quote
Jurgen Krooshoop Posted October 5, 2011 Author Posted October 5, 2011 Thanks guys for the great reactions !! @ Jurgen Krooshoop: On your Instructions webpage, were you going to add a "Parts List (Brickstore XML-file)" for the Sunbeam? There is no active hyperlink provided (yet).... The Brickstore file isn't ready yet, it's coming soon, I promiss. As Blakbird only posted the rotating render, it leaves me the honour of posting the other wonderful renders he made: Quote
Zerobricks Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 WOW!!! Really professionally looking and built model! It looks and seems to function smooth! What can i say, but MORE!!! Quote
Jurgen Krooshoop Posted October 7, 2011 Author Posted October 7, 2011 The intructions-links on my Lego-website have been fixed. Everybody should be able to download it now. And the Parts-list is ready and available as a Brickstore XML-file. Quote
