kabel Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 I've just finished this house and I like it so much that I wanted to post it as a single, it's part of my Thorshaven layout though. Hope you like it too! Quote
Captain Settle Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 Wow, nice MOC, the roof is great! I spy Lars Larsson... Quote
ZCerberus Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 Very nice. The orange and reddish brown is surprisingly sharp. Good job. Same complaint I have with the other Thorshaven photos though- I feel like I would like one that was higher up to get a better overview! Quote
Niku Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 You really stand out with the colors, that is kind your style, the construction is solid and there can be seen good details on the roof and the walls. Good job. Ps Is just me or there is a Halloween motive on the design. Quote
Alfadas Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 (edited) Nice work, got to love the roof. The orange parts are kinda weird though. Edited September 15, 2013 by jeroenaa Quote
Infernum Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 Wow! I really like this one too! The color combination is great, as is the build! Quote
Trance89 Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 That's a nice house with an interesting color combo. I wonder how orange and dark brown will look. I might have to test it. Quote
Legogal Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 Really cute! The overhang is perfect making the upper floors larger while keeping taxes smaller. Colors really stand out, too! Quote
soccerkid6 Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 As I said on Flickr I like the colorscheme The stone and woodwork both look good and the roof is excellent, especially how you added the windows up there Quote
Bkrosell Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 the orange looks really nice, I wish I had orange pieces Quote
timmyc1983 Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 What a fantastic little build!! The colours work so well together, I love the orange and the roof is awesome Very nice work and happy building Quote
monsinjor Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 Beautiful house ''kabel''. I love it! Great work! Quote
kabel Posted September 15, 2013 Author Posted September 15, 2013 (edited) thanks for all the comments guys, glad you like it as much as I do! @Z: the reason why my Thorshaven mocs lack a bit of perpective is because some of them aren't finished 100% yet. This one is though, so here is another shot: @sk. this has got to be the most annoying roof I have ever build. I took ages for it to not instantly fall apart @bkrosell: it took me ages to get this much orange! As for the color sceme, it's not that unusual in real life, at least in the part of the world that I live in. And so once again I was inspired by something that I find in my home town. The funny thing is, this house (town hall) used to have way less bright colors until a few years ago, when during an overhall researchers found out that this was the original color from when the town hall was built in 1494. So afterwards the orange was much brighter than for the last 100 years or so: Edited September 15, 2013 by kabel Quote
kermit Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 Nice use of the orange and brown combo. Quote
Mike S Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 Nice! Can't wait to see a completed Thorshaven as it is going to be a colorful little town! Quote
kabel Posted September 16, 2013 Author Posted September 16, 2013 thanks for the praise guys! I'm currently trying to translate some other color combos I've seen in town to Lego. So there will be more colorful houses to come! Quote
Kerntechniker Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 Hi kabel, great house, it does look great and fits from my point of view perfectly in our GoH. I think I have to visit your home town. It seems to be a great source of inspiration. Keep mocing Roland Quote
Yooha Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 Beside the colors I like the way you built the tiles on the roof. By the way: in the middle lower third of the roof the 1x2 plates are there for artistic purpose, or those are not really 1x2 plates but something more, and they hold the roof somehow? Quote
mpoh98 Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 Very nice, the color scheme looks fantastic! Quote
Lord Vladivus Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 Really cool, you don't see enough orange in historical builds (at least non-fiery builds!). Quote
Sigolf Brimabane Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 (edited) Wunderschönes Häusl ;) I visited Germany this summer and saw some amazing houses in mediæval style, and a few Panzerkampfwagens too... :) The colour scheme is really interesting, and I must try to make a roof with that technique some time :) Edit: I got really inspired from that building... Gotta make some experiments when I get home :) Edited September 16, 2013 by Sigolf Brimabane Quote
kabel Posted September 16, 2013 Author Posted September 16, 2013 thanks a lot guys! @kerni: your from hannover right? well, wernigerode is about 1,5 hours from there and always worth the trip. Unfortunately I don't visit my parents that often and Kassel doesn't ispire quite that much ... @yooha: to answer your question: @lord vladivus: truth is though that people in the middle ages really liked colors quite a bit! @sigolf: you don't need to go all the way to Germany to see houses like that. Ystad does the job too and I saw some really interesting color combos there as well! Quote
Lord Vladivus Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 They did. I think we see how stuff looks now, and assume that's the colour it's always been. For example, Corfe Castle (Dorset, England) looks like a pile of rocks, but in the twelfth century, was painted green by King John (who was the first person to use green paint). So that old school bright yellow lego castle may not have been too far off the mark! Quote
