Hello everybody!

I'm very, very happy that I now received the rank of an EB "knight" - so I'm aible to do polls  ! Thank you very, very much to the one who gave me that rank! :sweet:

Consequently I didn't hesitate and here is my first poll:

If there is a comeback of the great Wild West theme there will be some soldiers very sure, too. But the question now is: Would you prefer to get more US soldiers or would you more be interested in some CS soldiers?

Thank you for your votes and I'm very interested in which you'll vote for! :classic:

Comments and feedbacks according to how useful you think this poll is and how you like(d) it are welcome!

Klaus-Dieter

(I'll vote firstly after some votes of you in order to do not manipulate you unknowingly since this should be an objective poll.)

EDIT: To prevent misunderstandings:

The US soldiers are the soldiers with the blue uniforms which were included in the Wild West theme of the years 1996-1997. The CS soldiers would be soldiers in the same uniforms like the US soldiers but with the signature "CS" instead "US" on the belt-buckle and with grey uniforms instead of blue ones.

I'm not hot on American History (cos' you don't usually get taught it in the UK) so I don't really know the differences in those armies

I just want more bandits and indians :sing:

I think he means the CS as these guys, aka as the South/Johnny Reb/Conferdates/the losers.

I think he means the US Soldiers as these guys, aka the North/Yankees/the Union/the winners.

Personally, I think it'd be tough to do the south, without having some northern troops to fight. A Gone with the Wind plantation would be a nice set.

Cool poll.

Here is what I voted: Union/United States

Mostly because the Wild West is in the west, and really there weren't that many Confederates reaching there. (The farthest Confederate state I think being Texas).

Another reason that I think this period is from the early 1800's, quite a bit away from the Civil War.

The wild west is from after the civil war, as pistols and 8 shot rifles were used instead of muskets...

Hmmm, okay.... Well... then there still wouldn't be any Confederates  . Though there could be some Ex-Confederates :look:

Thank you very much for your votes and comments as far! :classic:

Only a short comment:

You all know that TLG takes liberties with historical correctness.

Do only look at the new "Castle" theme - the most elements it includes are historical totally wrong. So why shouldn't TLG release some US soldiers and/or CS soldiers in a new WW theme?!

I voted for the Confederate soldiers because they would bring another faction into the wild west theme

I would have voted both because I too think there should be Union soldiers again to fight the Confederate soldiers.

And I agree - A gone with the wind farm would be great! Any (more) civil buildings would be great (and civil 18th century folks!)

Nice poll :classic:

Best regards, Benny

Then it would just be an American Civil War theme...

I voted for the Union.

Firstly as IS said, the Confederates were not really involved in the West, and the Union were the ones who fought the Plains Indians. I think it would be quite strange to have Confederates fighting Indians, even for TLC.

Secondly, the Union would look much cooler this time around due to the new colours. They could now have dark blue torsos and hats, and light blue legs

Also, I'm not sure TLC would want to portray an army that represented slavery and such. Although they are making Nazis and Soviets, that is only because they are featured in the Indy movies, and even then, they are toned down significantly.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love a Confederate army too, but I think the Union soldiers would be a better and safer choice.

I voted for the CSA. I disagree with what they stood for  but I usually make my armies more modern and no country today sends soldiers off to fight in blue uniforms.

Also, another semi-related question. If the Rebels thought that DC was too far away to govern them, why did they make their own capital just a little further south in Richmond. Is there a reson for this or am I just expecting people to be smarter than they are.

Edit:

Oh yeah, if it was too blatantly the Confederates then LEGO had better get ready for lawsuits and potential costomer loss.

Neat poll KD. I think I have to go with Confederate Soldiers (which are grey by the way, not brown).

The main reason is that we've already had US/Union Troops. It's time for some enemies other than Indians. Then we could also create some Civil War MOCs.

TheBrickster, and others, are correct. Give me confederates to add a new faction.

Honestly though, I'll take option C... the army of Antonio López de Santa Anna! :sweet:

I DUBBLE THAT! Loved the Alamo movie

Keep in mind that should a new WW theme be made, I'm sure there'd be new torsos and colours, so the Union wouldn't be completely identical.

Indeed, a Mexican army would be brilliant - although we'd definately need an Apache tribe to go with them

I voted for: Confederate States soldiers.

The reason is that I already own some US soldiers and consequently some CS soldiers would be more interesting and would open the possibility to have two armies to fight against each other.

Confederate Soldiers (which are grey by the way, not brown)

Thank you for that information, TheBrickster! Of course they are grey - I think it was a bit late yesterday when I opened this poll  .

Yes - but in my opinion that would be the best thing which could happen to us - having two very similar designed armies  !

Also, I'm not sure TLC would want to portray an army that represented slavery and such. Although they are making Nazis and Soviets, that is only because they are featured in the Indy movies, and even then, they are toned down significantly.

Where is there the differnece between killing Indians and enslave Africans?! :sceptic: It's both something very terrible and shocking!

But I of course understand your point of view.

But think about Playmobil. If I remember right Playmobil released US soldiers as well as CS soldiers. So why shouldn't Lego, too?!

And if TLG would release a CS army they would not have to design very new and different sets - the "old" ones of the US soldiers could be used. They would only have to give the minifigs grey instead of blue outfits and everywhere where there was the color blue on flags and plates it has to be replaced by grey.

19th century folks you mean :sceptic:

I voted for Confederates, as they may supply some nice bley minifig pieces.

You're right, sorry about that :classic:

Then it would just be an American Civil War theme...

What's the problem with that? I could still get my civil WWlife sets  and I don't think anybody would argue if there where some Indians, too.

I think that Lego could "safely" create Confederate soldiers from the historic perspective. And yes, KD, Playmobil had "greys". They did not use the Confederate flag, but they were definately Confederate soldiers.

Take a look:

I really liked the Playmobil Confederates and some Playmobil fans have created huge battle scenes with both armies.

If Lego can design WWII German soldiers for the Indy sets, I think they can get away with Confederate troops since the Civil War was approx. 80 years before WWII.

I do see your point. However, 'Cowboys and Indians' are heavily romanticised, while slavery is not so much :sceptic:

Indeed, I actually own the Confederate covered wagon

However, I don't think TLC would've made German soldiers had it not been part of a licenced theme. Besides, there's no real way to tell the minifigs are Nazis unless you watch the movies.

Don't get me wrong though, I would love Confederate minifigs. However, I believe they would be a bit out of place for a WW theme, and I would simply prefer an updated Union army

I don't know about a whole faction, but I think a couple of old-grizzled-confederate-hanger-ons would be nice figures to include in a set or two.

I voted for the US Soldiers, I think having a faction of CSA Soldiers would be a bad move and many people would freak out over it. BTW there were some WW people who fought in the civil war. Like Jesse James and his crew. IMO a good WW theme would be around 1849 and the Cali gold rush and the expansion to the west. Although a Tesla MiniFig from the time he was in Colorado Springs would rock.
