Remus_Lupin Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 I've wanted to do a version of The Owlery for some time now, as I acquired more and more owls with each HP 2010/2011 set. My first attempt a month or two ago was making a simple modification to the 4842 Hogwarts Owlery, so I could fit more owls onto it. This was the result: Having gotten Diagon Alley and another 4 owls, I decided it was high time I made a proper MOC Owlery. So I got to work thinking of how I'd design it, ultimately basing it on pictures from the Chamber of Secrets movie, below: I wanted to keep the colouring consistent with the latest Hogwarts castle, so I decided to take the castle apart to make it. At first I just took apart Dumbledore's office, naively thinking I might have enough pieces, but it quickly emerged that I would need the entire castle worth of pieces. After spending pretty much all of yesterday at it, I finally arrived at the below: Harry sends Hedwig on assignment Quote
lightningtiger Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 Very nice MOC indeed 'Remus_Lupin', except those 2x2 round bricks towering into the arches don't seem right, because the example shot didn't show the windows having curves, but straight lines. Great work anyway and keep on casting spells 'Remus_Lupin' ! Quote
Remus_Lupin Posted June 26, 2011 Author Posted June 26, 2011 Thanks lightningtiger! I see your point about the arches, you're right. It's just that I started to run out of regular 1x2 tan bricks and the 2x2 round bricks were the most abundant pieces at my disposal Quote
Miss Kyle Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 Ooooh, how lovely! And it's a good scale, I think. Hogwarts is such a vast place, and this MOC really lives up to its size. Well done, Lupin! Quote
Adrian86 Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 That a good looking MOC Remus_Lupin and quite an impressive owl collection. Quote
Hoboman Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 (edited) I think you have captured the overall feel of the set. Nice work. I did notice thought that you left some of the stuff on the floor out of your MOC. Sorry, I could not resist. EDIT: Fix Spelling Error Edited June 26, 2011 by Daniel's Dad Quote
Sirius Black Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 The framework is excellent, and I absolutely love the fact that it is done to minifig scale. However, I can't help but feel that this is just a bit bland in places. From your reference picture, the Owlery looks to be a fairly worn building, so personally, I would have used some dk tan or dk grey as accents to give a sense of realism to it. Did you design this off of parts from 4842 alone? Sirius Quote
Vindicare Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 Very good Owlery there, Lupin. While it's a pretty simple build in appearance, you really did capture it very well with the parts from Hogwarts. But, where's the white 1x 1 rounds like in 4842? Quote
Masked Builder Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 That's pretty good! I do think you could have used normal bricks for around the windows though. Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 Very well done Remus! The design is simple yet very effectively accurate, you really captured the overall look based on the reference image. Good job! Quote
Remus_Lupin Posted June 27, 2011 Author Posted June 27, 2011 Thanks for the comments everyone! I did notice thought that you left some of the stuff on the floor out of your MOC. But, where's the white 1x 1 rounds like in 4842? Ahhh I KNEW I was forgetting something The framework is excellent, and I absolutely love the fact that it is done to minifig scale. However, I can't help but feel that this is just a bit bland in places. From your reference picture, the Owlery looks to be a fairly worn building, so personally, I would have used some dk tan or dk grey as accents to give a sense of realism to it. Did you design this off of parts from 4842 alone? Sirius I did consider the dark tan, but there weren't nearly enough pieces in 4842 to build it from those. And I don't have any other source of them! Yeah it was built completely from 4842, I didn't have a whole lot else in terms of parts sourcing. Thanks for the comments! Quote
Parrothead Rasmus Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 I love it! But those 2x2 round bricks going under the arches just don't feel right... but it doesn't stop me from loving your MOC! Quote

LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 I like this incredible MOC! Perfect colors and lovely owls! Quote
Legomaster34 Posted July 3, 2011 Posted July 3, 2011 Wow, you have a lot of owls! I accually like the use of the 2x2 round bricks, even though the pillars in your reference picture (which is from Goblet of Fire, not Chamber of Secrets ) are straight, I think they add a little bit more detail. Quote
Parrothead Rasmus Posted July 3, 2011 Posted July 3, 2011 That scene was from Goblet of Fire, I think. Sorry for correcting you! Yes, the Goblet of Fire, where he runs into Cho and asks her to the Yule Ball. Quote
