IAmWillGibson Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 (edited) So I picked up the 5868 Ferocious Creatures Creator set a few days ago, because it has lots of green in it, and green is a pretty colour. And I wanted to use it to make a Cthulhu. It was a bit more challenging than I anticipated. Who knew tentacles might be hard to do in LEGO? Still, I'm please with the results. Especially considering my self-imposed limited parts pool. Here's the only photo I was able to capture before losing my sanity [read: camera died]. I'll post better shots when I get the camera working again. He's goofy but lovable. Lemme know what ya think! Oh, and here's the non-futzed-with picture if you care to see it. Rufus Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 Did you make that just from Ferocious Creatures? If so, post some better pics when your camera's working again and it'll go straight into the Alternatives Index! If not, post some better pics anyway, please! This little teaser looks interesting, but it's difficult to tell from that pic Quote
LandShark Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 (edited) I can't believe no-one's made Cthulhu before. I was expecting it too be a cartoon-ized version: But it actually looks pretty awesome. Looking forward to seeing more pictures, that teaser looks interesting. Cutty Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 (edited) Fthaghn! Yes! I don't know whether or not the effect was intentional or not yet that slight grain and blur in that pic makes it oh so more frightening. Which is good, since we're dealing with a Great Old One here ;-). It's almost of "found footage" quality where some poor soon-to-be-devoured soul managed to get one camera photo taken of it's impendig doom... All opposable tentacles point up for this fine alternative design! Fthaghn! Edited September 12, 2011 by Cutty Quote
IAmWillGibson Posted September 12, 2011 Author Posted September 12, 2011 Thanks for the good reviews so far, going off of only that obfuscated image. I found a workable camera [not great, but workable] and also spent the time rebuilding this guy in LDD. I thought there'd be more illegal connections in it, but it turns out he's pretty much above-board, with only a few collision issues. Anyway, here are 'better' pictures: I don't love his feet, but I was working with what was available. As mentioned above, this was made using exclusively parts from Ferocious Creatures, Creator set 5868. There are 10 pieces unused, I think. Some notes on the LDD version, if anyone's brave enough to try it: the eyes fit in real life, but not digitally, apparently. Also, there a small brown jump plate behind his neck to stabilize the head angle that LDD didn't allow, and the short string in the set, which isn't an option in LDD, is threaded around inside his head to give support to the rather unstable tentacles. Legostein Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 Hello! These new pictures are a lot better. And now we can see dangerous creature completely. It's a great alternative of the original creator set. Cheers, ~ Christopher Quote

Doing animal stuff is always a bit of extra complication with LEGO, and cutting the parts pool down made this a fun challenge. Quote
