Praiter Yed Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 These figures look ace! Droid escape is going to be a must have set for me and possibly one to buy multiples of just to get plenty dirty Sand Troppers. 3PO's new print looks interesting (I'll reserve judgement on that for better pics). But even on this low-res, grainy image Porkins and R5 D8 look fantastic ! You just can't beat a bit of Porkins. Quote
Ceroknight Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 That just confirms me buying three droid escapes. Printed legs AND new torso printing!! I was right about the grey Geonosian it seems... X-Wing I think is a win, though I see some yellow inside the wings... Quote
Fallenangel Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 (edited) I was wrong and there are no 8L bars to be seen on the new X-wing! Granted, the new laser cannons are rather blocky, but they do seem longer, and seeing as I intend to replace them with 2-wide cannons anyway, they provide some nice parts. The nose has also been shortened (15 studs from back of cone to hinge brick in 6212, 12 studs in this version) and largely tiled over. A vast improvement over the emaciated nose that the last rendition sported. The cockpit console is now raised to Luke's face! (This wasn't as clear in the last picture because of the watermark.) I'm not liking those cones behind the flashback suppressors - they're just too long. Hopefully this is a quick fix. Both Porkins' helmet and astromech droid are marvelously accurate! I'm assuming that 'Od 8 do 14 lat.' means the same thing as "8-14 yrs." - the age range has broadened? Though why on the X-wing we don't have the correct shape flashback arresters on the laser cannons....they are not round - these look too big. Back to scanning the picture again. You can either use 2x2 radar dishes to capture the curvature or jumper plates for the correct width. Either way, you'll have to compromise. Edited September 13, 2011 by fallenangel309 Quote
StoutFiles Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 I like how they included Wedge (?) and his droid in the X-Wing along with Luke. Jek Porkins. A mainly forgettable character, he thought he could hold it together after his ship had mechanical problems. He's gained some popularity recently as the overweight X-wing pilot in parodies. Quote
Clanure Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 Seems to me this wave is all about the fig, with some afterthought bricks thrown in. Really unimpressed with the actual builds. If all I wanted were action figures I could do better with Hasbro. Quote
Algernon Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 That TIE fighter is looking great! The X-wing look even better, too. I will most definitely pick these up. I guess the Y-wing was just speculation? Quote
Fallenangel Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 (edited) I mean the CEO of Lego isn't going to run into the factory screaming 'SHUT EVERYTHING DOWN, Eurobricks member Fallenangel said that the droid socket is 0.3mm too shallow, scrap it and start again' First, the studio miniatures used in the Death Star sequence didn't house full droids - a molded head and partial upper body were attached: Second, a plate is only 3.2mm in thickness - I'm more than certain that I've stressed 'limits of the medium' when discussing accuracy. Seems to me this wave is all about the fig, with some afterthought bricks thrown in. Really unimpressed with the actual builds. If all I wanted were action figures I could do better with Hasbro. I miss the simplicity and imagination of the older sets and figures. All these new molds that are useful for one character aren't terrible in and of themselves, but they feel more "action figure" in their feel and appearance, rather than "Lego." The new Boba Fett is a good example. The old Fett worked fine. It was recognizable as Fett, while feeling "Lego." The new Fett has a higher level of detail and looks more like Fett than before, but it also looks like something produced by Hasbro, not Lego. I feel the same way about many of the new Jedi, from Shaak Ti to Ki Adi, they look great, but more like Hasbro's figures than Lego. Sometimes too much is a bad thing, in this case detail. It's been a disappointing trend, specifically in the Star Wars line, to see a reduction in the use of imagination. I miss the alt models on the packaging from the olden days. I miss the simpler figures and smaller, more affordable sets. I firmly believe Lucasfilm is an anti-imagination establishment, in that they desire to mold the consciousness of the consumer to their situations and story lines, instead of creating alternative situations. I use Lego as an example: the elimination of alt models (which has expanded to many lines beyond Star Wars), the increase in specialized elements (head molds, character pieces) that are distinctly, and trademarked, Star Wars elements. Of course, the problem might actually lie in the consumer. These trends of anti-imagination might be caused by the lack of imagination expressed by the consumer and the companies are simply responding. Are kids struggling to think independently and create something that wasn't printed on the packaging or flashed on the screen in front of them? I don't know. In my experience, kids don't have the attention spans to use their imaginations and create anything at all. But, of course, of course, all these new head molds and figures are being used as a selling point of the product. People seem to go bonkers for new minifigures and Lego caught on. So, money. Money trumps imagination. /end of cynicism. That TIE fighter is looking great! The X-wing look even better, too. I will most definitely pick these up. I guess the Y-wing was just speculation? Mirandir said that the Y-wing was a Limited Edition set (or something to that effect) so I expect pictures of it to come later than those of the main line. will Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 The TIE is the only definite buy so far for me, but I do like the range of minifigs available with all the sets. Despite me being happy with my slightly modded 6212, I can see me getting the new x-wing at some point. Quote
Cpt. Dan Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 I have to say that I am most excited for the Endor Battle Pack. This is an excellent line, so much better than last winter. Looks like Lego is really starting to add tons of detail to these figs. I hate seeing these pictures I can't wait until their release now... Quote
wokajablocka Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 Thes new pic are GOLD. Im loving the Droid escape and Im sure its going to be one of the best selling Star Wars sets to date. Stormies are a dime and a dozen but with the new prints they will be quite desirable. Even more detaileing than the Stormines that came with the Imperial Instection. All the figs are looking great for next year. I think that with the edition of Jek we can now start making a fleet of x wings. Sure they look very similar but with diffrent piolts and markings we can building a fleet to take on the Death Star. This is how I justify the new re-design. New Astromech droidsa are awsome, R5 is the best IMO. The R2 dose look very dark bule at the moment, we will see it they change him. He is over due for a change, I have like about 10 R2's the same at home. If this is a taste of whats to come im getting very excited about 2012's line up. Quote

Fallenangel Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 Please tell me I'm not the only one who feels that the printing on some of these new minifigures is ludicrously excessive. That ARC trooper is more decorated than the Boba Fett minifigure from 10123! It doesn't seem reasonable to put such a detailed minifigure into a set intended to be bought in bulk - deviations from the usual 'plain' minifigure are more than acceptable, but not on a relatively minor characters in sets as small as this one - it ruins the novelty and value of the heavily decorated minifigure. I hope that this does not become the new standard for minifigure printing - of course they are nice to look at, but the effect is lessened when there's an army of minifigures looking as if they were ordered off Arealight sitting on every kiddie clone lover's kitchen floor. I doubt that a beautifully printed 4cm figure will significantly enhance the building experience of an 8-year-old who will settle for the likes of this - not to mention that it would look completely out of place next to his blocky Jedi Shuttles, gappy Venators, and ugly Delta-7Bs. Hey guys! I found some new pics. Thought you'd be interested.Picture Megabloks, not again! Quote
Brickus Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 Looks like I'l be broke next year too, I can't wait to get my hands on these sets. Quote
clonefactory Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 I take back all that I said on Flikr. All I can say now is YUM. I cant wait for the Commando Droids and Commander Colt. I am a little upset at Gree cause I thought I had already had a good version of him. :) Quote
blue leader Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 I just gotta say the new sandtroopers are amazing. LOVE the 'dirty' look. We desperately need a new Dewback! Quote
pranas Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 Dang it! At first the Droid Escape Pod was an easy pass for me (the ship isn't appealing to me at all and I already have a bunch of R2s and 3PO's), and I was happy about that because that would be some money saved. But then they had to go and make awesome new Sandtroopers with sand weathered printing and it's instantly added to my buy list! And does 3PO have a new print as well? I can't tell for sure, but it looks like it. Double dang it! I just hope the model itself is good enough to justify this purchase. Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted September 14, 2011 Author Posted September 14, 2011 Please tell me I'm not the only one who feels that the printing on some of these new minifigures is ludicrously excessive. Yes I also observe that the current minifigs (and not only SW for that matter) are becoming overly-detailed. It's ok and awesome to a certain extent, but I'm not just a fan of the leg prints (and possible arm prints in the near future) - just too much detail for my taste. I hope that this does not become the new standard for minifigure printing Well it is already the trend, resistance is futile my friend. Quote

TeufelHund Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 Hmmm - at this stage I'm eyeing up the Endor pack, Droid Escape and the Tie Fighter. Might have to get the Geonesian Cannon for my son. The new Sandtroopers look great - now we just need a new Dewback... Quote
