Andonii Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 In that case, what they're trying to say becomes even more important. The point of these challenges is to develop and improve your building skills, not to pump out MOCs as fast as you possibly can. Reusing a wall doesn't really help you improve. They (actually, we) are trying to help you improve. If you just dismiss suggestions under the excuse that you're new to MOCing and keep building the same way over and over again, you'll never move beyond the original quality of your MOCs. I was just using to many other bricks at the time, and so I reused the wall 'cause I didn't need it anymore.
Brickdoctor Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 I was just using to many other bricks at the time, and so I reused the wall 'cause I didn't need it anymore. Then why didn't you just wait until you had more bricks available so you could post a better MOC? Please don't take this as us nitpicking or putting down you, your MOCs, or your building skills. We just want you to use the challenges for what they were intended and help you improve your MOCs.
de Gothia Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 As said by others, Andonii, I´m only trying to help you to improve your skills as a builder and I think that Derfel had the same plan when he came up with the titles. And volcanicpanik I think it´s a little harsch to call his mocs "low to mediocre quality MOCS". You can´t start your moc career with builds like Derefls...
Kerntechniker Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 Thanks to de Gothias great heraldic device for our guild I've been able to create a torso decal for our varlets and low armed troops. It is free for everyone to use.
Fred Daniel Yam Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 And volcanicpanik I think it´s a little harsch to call his mocs "low to mediocre quality MOCS". You can´t start your moc career with builds like Derefls... I wasn't trying to be harsh, I was just trying to get my point across that we are trying to help him build better. I apologise to Andonii if I have in any way offended him, I didn't mean to offend you. Truce? And could our leader please explain all these "Knight" titles and whatnot?
Andonii Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 Look guys. Tell you what. I'll make another one, and I'll try to make it better. I'll make it in a while, when I have more bricks available.
Niku Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 Look guys. Tell you what. I'll make another one, and I'll try to make it better. I'll make it in a while, when I have more bricks available. Take your time, the thing here is to surpass our own limits, and somehow surprise people who have been building for a long time. And dont worry everybody at the start is not that good as like Derfel, de Gothia, or so many other great builders. You can always check other MOC´s for techniques that suit you and yours bricks, and in the process you can develop your own style. Good luck, and for sure this is the best place to grow as a builder.
Admiral Ron Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 (edited) Hail! Men of Avalonia! I have been away for some time, and am happy to have returned! My apologies for my late entrance, but I wish to offer my allegiance, and that of the few men under my command. My name? Of course how forgetful of me. My name is Ronothor Walkuere. I am a warrior at heart, and I fight to protect those who are my allies. And of course my horse, though lightly garbbed, his name is Sleek. My companions for many months. First is our Monk Batholomew. He prays for us in battle and we have yet to fail. Not to mention he is an amateur alchemist, always studying to improve his skill. Next is our Halfling, Bonzu. He is a merchant at heart, and is always trying to make a gold coin selling whatever he can. Lastly is my brother-in-arms, Edward. He is a stout warrior, and shall not shy from battle. I hope to help Avalonia in its time of need, will you have me? Edited November 28, 2011 by Admiral Ron
Hersbrucker Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 The "Priest rod" (hope thats the right english word for it) is great, I keep that in my mind
de Gothia Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 Thanks to de Gothias great heraldic device for our guild I've been able to create a torso decal for our varlets and low armed troops. It is free for everyone to use. That torso is really nice!! Great job! And welcome Ronothor Walkuere! Great to see you in Avalonia!
timura Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 Thanks to de Gothias great heraldic device for our guild I've been able to create a torso decal for our varlets and low armed troops. It is free for everyone to use. İ think there should be sand green instead of tan - in fact it is sandgreen in official torso decal. So i prefer using the original one. But it is a good clean work well done anyway.
de Gothia Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 With Kerntechniker´s torso design I added sand green instead of tan... I don´t know which I like the most.. Perhaps a variety of them!?
Kerntechniker Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 (edited) Hej, thank you for the C&C. I can change the colours at any time. I will try to create another torso for knights and noblemen during this week. Does anyone know whether the title 'defender of the seas' or something similiar is planned? Edited November 28, 2011 by Kerntechniker
ZCerberus Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 (edited) It certainly looks like it has GREAT firing action, but I must agree with de Gothia, two horses and those little wheels would never be able to pull that thing! -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ As for the volcanicpanik Andonii situation, I am NO authority here but I would just ask everyone to never call anyone's MOCs low quality. Suggest improvements without that side of it. We don't know how many bricks anyone has or how much experience they have developed and we shouldn't discourage participation. As for the titles, collecting the seven basic titles will be a feat I (and Derfel?) hope we ALL accomplish, so going above and beyond for other titles is more important. Jason Cicchini Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 (edited) Without further ado, I present the official Avalonian map! (Drawn by me, with research, edits and suggestions by Timura) If anyone has any suggestions, I'd be happy to hear them. As time progresses, and territories grow, I will add and change the map to give us all a clear idea of what is happening and where. Thanks for your patience! Edited December 3, 2011 by Jason Cicchini
timura Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 (edited) Lord Khelperth Darwyn (Jason Cicchini) and Lord Whitetiger (timura) are working on the last details of the Avalonian Map. De Gothia came to visit his friend Lord Whitetiger in his villa. They are talking about memories of glorious victories. (On the back you can see a part of Lord Whitetiger's triangular shield collection.) Edited November 28, 2011 by timura
Jason Cicchini Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 Love both these MOCs Timura! You and your men are always welcome in Dragon's Tongue!
NiceMarmot Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 Lord Khelperth Darwyn, great map! We'll have to update our Kaliphlin / Siccus Badlands map with all these new discoveries! We Kaliphlin guildmembers might dispute your southern border a bit, as I believe our guild has towns and villages on both sides of the Red River (which empties into the Inland Sea, at the bottom of your map. I didn't realize that you all had bridges to the Mystic Isles; those must be quite some feats of medieval engineering. I had never understood why Avalonia was so lush and green. Now I see that all the rivers run together, so that the place is like one big river delta. That explains it. Thanks for providing the map; this will definitely help our merchants on trading missions to Avalonia.

Thanks for providing the map; this will definitely help our merchants on trading missions to Avalonia. Thanks for the compliments Nicemarmot! We Avalonians are prideful people, and have had nothing but good relations with the Kaliphilian Guild, hence the overlap of our borders. Our cartographers were slightly confused as to where the border actually lies, so if we are incorrect in our assumptions I apologize. Any revisions that are necessary will be made post-haste. The bridges through the Mystic Isles are enchanted so that they keep in place. It is often reported that while traveling over them, parties have seen some strange and inexplicable things! As far as Avalonia's greenery, we are known for our lushness, are we not? Water and Forestry are in no small supply in our guild, hence why we are so generous in our trading and supply of wood and produce to other Guilds. We appreciate and cherish our bond with all of the other Guilds, most especially Kaliphilin. May both of our lands thrive forever!
NiceMarmot Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 Water and Forestry are in no small supply in our guild I must admit, as a son of the desert, I am always a bit freaked out by the sight of so much fresh water when I visit Avalonia. Our southern instinct is to build cisterns or reservoirs to conserve the water for the inevitable drought. That you all let it run free everywhere all over your land is amazing to us. We appreciate and cherish our bond with all of the other Guilds, most especially Kaliphilin. May both of our lands thrive forever! Our sentiments exactly! I am about to send a ship north to Avalonia to procure lumber for a bit of a building spree we have going on; this map will greatly help them find their way.
de Gothia Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 Great map!!! I love the place of my watchtower to! Lord Whitetiger: I really like my visit! Your white villa is great! Hope you can come and see me soon!
Andonii Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 (edited) Nice map Jason Cicchini. My Watchtower was placed exactly where I pictured it. Fantastic job. Edited November 28, 2011 by Andonii
Andonii Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 I have taken the maps of all the guilds and put them in a topic here. Hope it's useful. Long live Avalonia!
Brickdoctor Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 Excellent work, Master Cartographer! By the way, you have one tree that isn't listed on the legend. I assume that's maydayartist's tower, but he's listed elsewhere. (Tower #4)
