Hi All,

As many other, I did not buy 10182 (Café Corner) and 10190 (Market Street) when they where available in the stores, but now I really want them!!! :cry_happy:

When looking at bricklink and ebay, the second-hand prices are just insane, almost 10 times the original price. I’m planning to build mine and don’t really care about the box, but still, the price is US$500-900 for a complete set *oh2* Guess this is all about demand vs availability...

So, I was thinking, what do we have to do to get Lego to re-launch the two sets?

Any good ideas? Anybody who knows the “production manager” at lego?

This will obvious kill the second-hand prices, so not everybody will be happy….

Take care

I think there's a few more than two sets in that boat.

Pretty sure I've seen this issue covered elsewhere before in these forums.

Heaps of 'collectible' set are now much more than original rrp - can you say UCS Millennium Falcon, Statue of Liberty, older Harry Potter stuff, older Star Wars UCS, older train - the list is endless!

It isn't going to happen - like all the other arguments in other threads say - why reproduce an old set for a smaller market that takes away shelf space and buying options for sets that haven't been sold before and therefore have a much bigger market?

TLG have re-released some sets in the past and from what I understand they haven't done that greatly.

So, either save up and pay what it's going rate is, or just let it go man, just like I've let go of having the SoL sculpture set ;)

Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure you are right

But for 5-6-700US$ second-hand price, maybe it's better to just buy "loose" bricks and make the sets???

Market street is definetly cheaper to make from bricklink than buying a complete set, not to sure on cafe corner though. If your not after a 100% clone copy it can be done quite alot cheaper, as some parts sell for $20-30 each and you need 4-5 of them. But then again the boxes from these sell for over $100 so maybe buying a misb is a good idea.

That's not bad and I don't need (nor want) the box. Can you please guide me to where I can find the $20-30 parts?

It depends on your financial situation, but tbh after doing my calculations with respect to time and price, I decided that given my lack of available time (I'm lucky enough to find time to build my sets - my house currently looks like a toy store), it was worth the couple of extra 00s to just buy a used set on Bricklink - especially as a non-US buyer. I waited and kept and eye on prices and got both at reasonable (relative to the current market) prices. I figure if I 'get over Lego' I can sell them on at at least the same price, given of course that the AFOL market doesn't collapse!

I think the thing to remember is that Lego is a collectible and in a collectible market the market value of things don't correlate with intrinsic value or rrp. Try finding a Shelby GT500 at original retail :P

I've covered many tips in regards to getting the actual or alternate pieces for these rare sets here.

I looked into building sets earlier this year, because even when the big sets were in shops, the RRP prices were just way above what i could afford. I tested with a few smaller sets by having maybe 3-4 on my to do list at once so i could get multiple parts from sellers rather than build through 1 and then start again and probably plcing another order with same seller.

The only issue i foresaw with this way was that lego have a habit with some sets of using unique parts (moreso with newer sets) which means to build things exact, you need someone who has bought the original and is prepared to split it for sale. There are those who do just that, but as a result those parts cost silly money.

As i've been building sets that i wanted for myself, this has not been an issue as i can use similar parts and where necessary make my own modifications. Thus i end up with something based on a set, but done to my own preference and also within my own budget.

I have managed to get some sets exact to the original spec and they have come in well under what even the original RRP was and with the lego having become rather dull issuing marginally different versions of the same building each year, i'll probably stick with this method in future.

This also means that i dont end up with a mish mash of scales and styles. I can add to my sets so that they all look like they are from the same era and none of them look absurdly oversized etc.

I tried to BrickLink the GG, and I was over $200 in my cart and only about halfway through the pieces. Personally, I'd pay $300 for a new GG, but obviously the prices are well above that.

As for CC, prices are just crazy. I might pick a few Fire Brigades up for future sale/trade if they have BOGO 50% this holiday season. You're sure to make a couple of bucks.

I doubt Lego will be doing a re-release of the discontinued sets anytime soon. Maybe for the 10 anniversary or something....

The good news is that I managed to piece together Market Street for a "reasonable" amount. I think it came to around $250, without resorting to using parts from my existing inventory.

The only parts that aren't exact matches are the white hoses with tabbed ends. I swapped in regular ended ones to save $40.

Still 3x RRP, but much less than the $500+ it's going for as a set.

I built my own Café Corner throught Bricklink for 235€. Half price, exact colors. I think it's the best solution for these old high priced sets. I've rebuilt UCS Millenium Falcon this way, too.

I had the fleeting idea of buying the pieces for those sets via PAB or Bricklink. I didn't get very far before I realized that may be just as much $$ as buying off BL or Ebay. Thoughts?

I really want these two sets, but $400+ is just too much for me. I could buy 2x Pet Shops for that amount.
