Brickdoctor Posted December 6, 2011 Author Posted December 6, 2011 Day 6 is here, and it brings with it... ...Miniland-scale Chewbacca! This was a tough one. TLG already has their own Miniland-scale Chewbacca, which I thought was already a good way to represent both Chewie and the Miniland style of figures. The major change I made is, of course, covering my model in a ton of grille tiles, which I think looks better than the mess of studs on the official model. Chewbacca (or "Chewie", as he was known by his friends) was a legendary Wookiee from Kashyyyk and co-pilot of Han Solo's ship, the Millennium Falcon. Read more... 2011SWAdventDay6.lxf Quote
Masked Builder Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Hmm...Overall, I like it. I'm just not sure about the head. Quote
Solscud007 Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 I like the rotation of the legs so they are not lined up with the facets of his torso. Quote
Mr Man Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Day 6 is here, and it brings with it... ...Miniland-scale Chewbacca! That's a nice technique to avoid the grills lining up, and creates some detailing, but the head really seems off. Quote
Hollander Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 The head seems a little odd indeed, BUT, at the other hand, it's nice to see a it made not using the technique M<0><0<DSWIM does. Quote
Praiter Yed Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 All looking good so far, I'd agree that the red bit on Slave I isn't quite as good as the rest of it (which is superb btw) but hey, you're doing these in a limited time-scale. I must admit, initially I thought you had these already 'built' and ready to post, but it looks like you were cutting it fine with the Spider Droid - maybe this topic should be called Man Vs Lego! BTW I actually like Chewbacca's face - it has a fun, space-dog feel. Chewie may be mighty but he is not always intimidating. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted December 7, 2011 Author Posted December 7, 2011 I must admit, initially I thought you had these already 'built' and ready to post, Yeah, I wish I had more time to devote these models. With a week or so of experimentation, I think the Slave I could have definitely been better. I am actually a day ahead, though (I started building on November 30th and will finish on December 23rd), just so that I can get the models out reasonably on time for those in other time zones. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted December 7, 2011 Author Posted December 7, 2011 Day Seven makes its mark on the calendar: It's Miniland-scale Bowcaster! Wow, this was tough. Not so much in the building, but in the concept stage of things. I debated between this and making a bigger replica of a bowcaster, but in the end, I figured that the official calendar provides the accessories for the minifigs, so mine should provide the accessories for the Miniland-figs. The bowcaster (sometimes called the Wookiee Crossbow) was a Wookiee projectile weapon that fired a metal quarrel enveloped in energy, however some bowcasters were modified to fire pure energy. Praiter Yed Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 Where's his hammer, spanner and barrel? Still, nice Bowcaster Quote
Masked Builder Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 I agree with Praiter! I want to see the rest of his tools! I do like the bow caster even if you left out his other tools. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted December 8, 2011 Author Posted December 8, 2011 Day Eight: It's Miniland-scale Rebel Pilot! This one was hard, only because LEGOLANDs already have Rebel Pilots that are quite good. The Rebel Pilot's costume, when it comes down to making Miniland-style figures, is rather simple. There really wasn't much I could change from the official model, other than some rearranging in order to recolor some areas. Rebel pilots flew starfighters, light freighters, and atmospheric repulsorlift vehicles for the Alliance Starfighter Corps of the Alliance to Restore the Republic during the Galactic Civil War. Masked Builder Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 Very nice Brickdoctor! I'm just not sure about the fin. It looks a bit large..... Quote
Huntleyfx Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 Really nice! I am loving the figures. Just curious, what is the pair of binoculars on his leg supposed to be? Quote
Brickdoctor Posted December 8, 2011 Author Posted December 8, 2011 Really nice! I am loving the figures. Just curious, what is the pair of binoculars on his leg supposed to be? On the 'real' figure, I believe those are emergency flares. Quote
Oky Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 You did it wrong! It's supposed to be an all-white helmet! Not bad, but I agree about the shape of the helmet. The fin just seems too tall, but I can't really think of a way to fix it without changing the whole design of the head. Quote
conchology Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 Great work on the Advent calender, looking forward to each new set you bring us. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted December 9, 2011 Author Posted December 9, 2011 Day 9, report in! Midi-scale T-65 X-wing, standing by! Man, I really wish I'd had more time for this one. I think I spent about three-quarters of my spare time yesterday fiddling with the rear half, and then I had to sort of thrown on the front half. I already had a little experience from reverse-engineering the prototype Midi-X-wing from the Yavin IV set, so that helped, but I'm not totally happy with the nose. Oh, yes, and the wing opening mechanism was shamelessly stolen (and compacted) from fallenangel. The Incom T-65 X-wing starfighter was the primary all-purpose starfighter of the Rebel Alliance and its successor governments. Known for its versatility and exceptional combat performance, it was a favorite with Rebel and New Republic pilots. Read more... 2011SWAdventDay9.lxf Quote
Mr Man Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 Day 9, report in! This is easily the beast day so far Brickdoctor . That X-Wing is a little beauty. Quote
M<0><0<DSWIM Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 Now THAT is awesome, Doc! LOve the wings, engines, and cannons in particular. I'm not too sure about the technique for the cockpit, though I can't think of a better solution other than a printed canopy. This is one model (besides your midi Slave 1) that I'd love to see you revisit so you could fine-tune it. Quote
lightningtiger Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 I have one expression for Day 9........ The best so far, my favourite SW vehicle of them all.....X-wing ! Keep them coming 'BD', you're not even half way yet ! Quote
swils Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 That is a beauty. I think I know what my next BL wishlist is going to be for... Quote
Masked Builder Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 Wow Doc. That is one heck of an awesome model. Quote
Oky Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 Very good design, Doc! I love it, and I think the nose is fine. Let's just hope fallenangel wont come by to tear it shreds! Quote
