How about an army of McCafferies?

A battle for the ages! And since when were there over 50 people reading this thread? :oh3: That's more than in LOTR before!

Heroica has a lot of LotR vibes. People probably came to the site for LotR and decided to look at us because of that and because we're a forum game. Best of both worlds.

WHAT?!?!?! over 50 PEOPLE WERE READING THIS THREAD?! How, how is this possible?! Oh, and I'm getting sad that basically everybody is on a quest, because I'm about to host my first quest! it'll probably be posted on the quest-board tomorrow.

"Why take a break?"

Was just trying to make a suggestion in character, heh. Didn't want to have a purely/mostly OoC post. I was just proposing that we present Sandy a list of spaces to dig, rather than do them one at a time. If we stumbled on something important, like a fight, we'd pause there.

Currently:

"C2" (pause) "Nothing. Next?" (pause) "C3" (pause) "Nothing. Next?" etc.

Suggestion:

"Let's dig up the entirety of row C" (pause) "C2, nothing. C3, nothing. In C4, you find an Anchor. C5, nothing. C6, nothing. When you stick the shovel in the ground at C7, a giant angry sand crab pops out at you! Battle time!" (pause) (We begin combat)

Just would help to keep things moving, in my mind.

For the first time in the history of this game we have more available quests than available players. So all you people who have joined this game but never gotten on a quest, now is your chance!

Due to this unprecedented circumstance, the sign-ups for the three open quests will extend to January, but if any of the quests get enough players to fill the spots before that, the QM can decide to close the sign-ups prematurely.

Since Quest #8 is coming to an end, there's at least some players who'll be free to play...

OoC: I won't allow it. There's no point in just allowing you to "dig everywhere", since the purpose is to make you spend time digging.

Psh, can you say artificial post-count boosting? Someone's got a case of quest-length envy...

We've managed to dig up 5(?) holes in a day or two, and there's about 50 spaces we could potentially be digging. While, to be fair, we could have expedited this if we had more shovels, I *really* hope we get luckier than having to spend 10 days searching this beach (over the course of a single in-game night  ).

There's 35 spaces you can dig in, and it really would go faster if more of you had shovels (that's why I put them up for sale at the souk). Besides, if watching darkdragon dig gets tedious, you can always return to the beach later to continue where you left off.

Or would you rather want everything handed to you in a silver platter?

"You arrived to Salmanda, found all the items and got back just in time to save Zelda. Congratulations!"

Ah, only 35. So 7 days, then, haha! I wasn't sure about spaces that were covered--I counted anything that wasn't in the water, rather than just tiles with center-studs. And yeah, as soon as we got to the beach, it clicked as to why there were shovels for sale. Though, if you're going to be delivering, I actually prefer mine on platinum dinnerware, sprinkled with finely grated gold flecks, thanks!

As for the quote, that scenario bears a striking resemblance to the plotline of a popular console RPG series of that namesake. "What's that, you're finally here just in time to beat the big bad evil guy? Well, it took you seven years, but don't worry, you're just in time!" Hey, if it's worked for them, for 25 years...

Never expected it to be this way. It used to be that everyone was bored and there were not enough quests, but now it's the exact opposite. Everyone sign up for my quest!

En Sabah Nur wondered why Alf felt the need to repeat what the seaman had just said only a moment ago.

He showed up after he was talking.

Everybody sign up for quest 22!

I think we got that already. :sceptic: And it doesn't do much good when there's 2 active people in the Hall.

NOO!!! (Yeah, I figured) When people from quest 8 come back or there's a new player, I just need 3 people to sign up in total and then I'll close the sign ups. Otherwise I don't think I'll be able to host this quest.

But the problem is that I have about 2-3 weeks off starting Wednesday. That will be the easiest time to do the quest.

That's holiday time and most everyone will be busy.

"Haha a seafarin' barbarian with hopes of becoming a battle mage? A strange one you are, Alf. I'm interested in what type of loot a sailor carries with them. Let us proceed to Miguel's shop. I have no coin either but that well dressed cleric there looks rather affluent."

Funny you say so:

:sing: No XP? :cry_sad:

But I agree with the tedious process. Players should have to face the consequences of what they do. They need important decisions. In this case, we decided to hoard all the Gold and not buy shovels, so we have to sit around while darkdragon does all the work.

The main MOC for my Quest, Bring in The Cavalry, is almost done! I just need to find some more Crownie torsos now. By the way, Bricksandparts, Quest #13 seems like it's almost finished, so 6 more Heroes will come back to the Hall. Also, Quest #8 seems like it should be done soon, too.

Differing opinions/views on hosting/QM'ing, I suppose. In a quest with a hidden clock ticking down in the background, I'm fine with the idea of it taking us a long period of in-game time to dig up (potentially) 35 grid-squares. Seems only fair. The consequence would be that we have less time available to us (in-game) to complete the quest. The characters themselves would probably be getting pretty annoyed and frustrated by about the 15th or 20th hole. I just feel like it's rather disengaging to have to sit around for a period of a few days while we dig up each hole individually. In a face-to-face setting, I'd have less of an aversion to it, since things would take longer but still keep moving at a steady pace. With the period between posts, though, like I said, a bit disengaging. And besides, holidays are coming up. I'd hate to finish up digging just around the time that everyone needs to take some time off for the holidays

tl;dr, I understand the reasoning behind it, I just disagree with it. Still loving the quest so far :classic:
