Scubacarrot Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 ahahahah sing your way to the victory ;) You know, someone COULD send a bard, who could put to sleep his opponent with a song, or make him berserk or friendly or something ;) that would be interesting minifig ;) All right, challenge excepted! I am expecting a BARD from you! :) battle-bard mage-bard I do not care ;) The sharpest flute in the city ;) bring it on! :) Challenge accepted, even though we have already entered, I, Lord Shale, am sending Ignacio the Bard to the Drow games, He will accompany Gurnog the Sandgnome with his lute and voice! Ignacio has the sharpest voice of the Siccus Badlands, and no one can play the strings better than he, not to mention his good looks, which earned him quite the pull with ladies .
SkaForHire Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 Finally got my main fragments more or less in order as I wanted them Probably have to raise the roof a bit further(it's resting on a box here). Now I can get going on the main scene, in the ballroom. The minotaur is just a placeholder. C&C as always gratefully received gabe, those equilateral triangles (?) are very impressive in their own right, looks like Nocturnus is getting a makeover OK, so I know you said it is resting on a box back there, but is it possible to tilt the roof like that? That would be kind of creepy cool... Like the building had sunk in on itself - pretty fitting for a Nocturnus embassy. Anyway, just a thought. Looks really great though, and I love the neighbor.
Angeli Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 Challenge accepted, even though we have already entered, I, Lord Shale, am sending Ignacio the Bard to the Drow games, He will accompany Gurnog the Sandgnome with his lute and voice! For quickness and ingenuity you get to have to contestants in the games ;) But I must say, if a guy with guitar wins, the Drow will loose all credibility as a serious race :)
CptMugwash Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 Gabe Your embassy looks very promising, can't wait to see it finished. Rob Your's is coming along very nice, loving the Nocturnus house, and look forward to seeing the interior of your embassy.
Maxim I Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 Yupla, I made a small Kaliphlin Embassy for in Mitgardia :) Pictures will be posted soon :) Also my Kaliphlin Embassy in Nocturnus will be ready soon and also here, pictures will follow soon
Odin's son Fred Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 Captain Xander Wraith and crew are sailing into Kaliphlin Xander Wraith was studying to become a wizard in Nocturnus, but a life of dark rooms, old books and scrolls was not for him. He longed for a life of adventure, so he and his girlfriend (now wife) Morganna stole a ship, the Blackthorn, and fled Nocturnus. Morganna's werewolf body guard, Abbott, also went with them. They sailed to Darlig Ulv-Stranden and picked some more crew members to help run the ship and started looking for work. If you have a job, we'll do it regardless of how legal it is. SkaForHire Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 If I have enough white, my embassy in Mitgardia will probably be squeezed in before the deadline. It is not an embassy in traditional sense. Historically, countries did not have embassies in remote nations or city states, and they didn't have them in remote parts of a kingdom, even if the kingdom was large enough to merit a full ambassador and a ministerial staff. They would often build consulates, with the consul being the main dignitary. And for those places so remote, or so unimportant, a ship was sent with a captain acting as the dignitary to the country / city / territory. My Mitgardian embassy is going to be located in the far reaches of the North, where only small tribes and the fur trade thrive. The scene is going to be a ship shuttered up for winter, with the ice frozen in around it. It is going to be docked, and I am building a trading house to act as the "consulate" while the ship is locked in the ice. I know it is not the traditional definition that we are thinking about for this contest, but I thought about what would suit the far north the best, and I think this is it. I was going to do a Nocturnus embassy too, but unfortunately, I probably won't have the time. So why did I post this - because I wanted to ask what you all use as an alternative for the white tree branches in order to create trees that look like they have snow on them? The white branches are awesome, but also cost like a dollar each.
Kayne Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 My thought would be just to put some white tiles on top of the brown branches, and then just add some white round plates on top of the foliage. That should give a snowy feel, and you can pick and choose where the snow will sit on the tree, rather than just having it all white.
CptMugwash Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 So why did I post this - because I wanted to ask what you all use as an alternative for the white tree branches in order to create trees that look like they have snow on them? The white branches are awesome, but also cost like a dollar each. Hi Ska, personally I think those leaves are more suited to oak trees and stuff that would be more suited in Avalonia, for Mitgardia I imagine pine trees, built in the style of the set 10199 Winter Village Toy Shop, I personally have never tried this but would love to give it a go, with this you can build them however big you want using white plates with some green mixed in aswell, instructions. Hope this helps.

The white branches are awesome, but also cost like a dollar each. Another option is to use white feathers and horns like Derfel does. Suits very well if you are using leaves, especially from a distance.
Odin's son Fred Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 (edited) Finally got my main fragments more or less in order as I wanted them Probably have to raise the roof a bit further(it's resting on a box here). Now I can get going on the main scene, in the ballroom. The minotaur is just a placeholder. C&C as always gratefully received Wow, awesome job on that. I'm loving the 3D hieroglyphics on the front...very nice touch. I agree with you that the top part does need to be raised some so it can bee seen better. So, does this mean that you are defecting to another guild? No, I'm joining Kaliphlin officially now (been lurking and posting in here for a while). I just put in the part about Nocturnus to add some back story and tie it into Historica as a whole. As Xander and his crew are privateers and looking for work anywhere, they will be traveling to and from all the guilds as needed but will have to keep a low profile more in Nocturnus than in other places (could lead to some good stories down the line). When not working they will usually return to Darlig Ulv-Stranden to hit up some of their contacts there for work...or just enjoy some time in the tavern if they have money. I posted these in the main Historica forum but since they are part of Kaliphlin and the first builds for Darlig Ulv-Stranden I thought I would put the links here as well. http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=65861 http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=65862 Edited February 6, 2012 by Odin's son Fred
Waterbrick Down Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 (edited) Hello my good sirs, I have just returned from my escorting a load of black oil for some of the Southern Dwarf clans and I am pleased to see how many newcomers have joined this prosperous land. Due to my time being short (college classes and all) I have not had the opportunity to visit any of our fine embassies outside our borders, however I have heard of a developing griffin hatchery in Qarkyr and intend to stop by on my next visit. In the meantime, I would like to mention that I had the opportunity while visiting amongst the dwarf clans, to sit in on a negotiations meeting with a council of those somewhat mysterious inhabitants of our land, the mummies. The proceedings were conducted at one of the ancient abodes of the resident Tomb Kings, also present were representatives of the Eastern Mountain Mummies tribes, and a delegation of Ninja Mummies from the north western sectors of Kaliphlin. Of heated debate were the new labor contracts that were being offered to those residents of the southern badlands by a certain glass making facility. Edited February 7, 2012 by Waterbrick Down
Gabe Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 (edited) (snip) Tower Master Erudhalion Fantastic start - definitely going to be a great shape to the building. Hehe I love how you have all the figs watching the construction ;) Thankyou o mighty guild leader! Yeah, they are quite the peanut gallery aren't they - i have to keep threatening them with time-out in the Fabuland corner to keep them in line. Wow gabe, I am looking forward to seeing that completed! That looks as though you may be able to take another win with this one! Cheers, i like your confidence! However i'm not so sure about that, especially considering that the guild leaders will be taking part this round. But at least my embassy will be a contribution to the guild total. ps. Or hang on, are the guild leaders participating in this round? I'm sure i heard something to that effect, but then how will the voting work - is it changing, are we all voting or something? Damn, i feel so out of the loop now... all i know is that the deadline for the embassies is on the 15th. Essentials, y'know! Finally got my main fragments more or less in order as I wanted them Probably have to raise the roof a bit further(it's resting on a box here). Now I can get going on the main scene, in the ballroom. The minotaur is just a placeholder. C&C as always gratefully received gabe, those equilateral triangles (?) are very impressive in their own right, looks like Nocturnus is getting a makeover Ah, great to see your embassy coming together robuko! The 3D freize you've got going on is great, and i assume the upside-down arches at the bottom will line up eventually? The hawk's head bleeding into the goblets is an especially cool effect, and appropriately creepy. The domes behind it look awesome too - i agree that they could be raised a notch to make them more visible. Yeessss... Nocturnus makeover FTW! Challenge accepted, even though we have already entered, I, Lord Shale, am sending Ignacio the Bard to the Drow games, He will accompany Gurnog the Sandgnome with his lute and voice! Ooh, crap, i'm paired up with this guy in the first round! Damn, he looks scary... to my pride! Why o why couldn't i have drawn against some fierce swordsman or axe weilding giant... (snip) Gabe Your embassy looks very promising, can't wait to see it finished. Cheers, i better get cracking on it actually, i feel a bit stuck right now. (snip)So why did I post this - because I wanted to ask what you all use as an alternative for the white tree branches in order to create trees that look like they have snow on them? The white branches are awesome, but also cost like a dollar each. I'm with Kayne on this one - some strategically placed white tiles, 1x1 rounds, small plates and cheese slopes should give you the effect you are looking for. I do like DC's solution with the feathers/horns as well, but that tends to look more like melting snow/slush, rather than a blanket effect. Maxim I Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 In celebration of the finally finished Mpya Stedor Palace (photo's one of the next days), Lord Damaximus organised a small military parade (also pictures to be expected one of the next days). The military count: 96 soldiers, knights, ninja's, crossbowmen, pikemen, ... serving the honour of Kaliphlin and the city of Mpya Stedor! In these dark times (were Avalonia and Nocturnus are not longer hiding their plans to attack eachother), Lord Damaximus hopes that this parade makes his enemies change their minds and don't start a war with Kaliphlin... But to play it really safe, he sent a letter to his brother (Mattiximus, high lord and king of the Guild of Ximus far far away) to ask for some reinforcements as Ximus has signed a peacethreaty with all it's neighbours. He especially hopes his brother will send some of the Ximus Elite-squads.
Si-MOCs Posted February 8, 2012 Author Posted February 8, 2012 Where are my manners? NEW TRAVELLERS! Welcome welcome welcome. It has been awhile, but we are always happy to have new faces in the south! Captain Xander Wraith it is a pleasure to meet you. We do not have many of those of the magik ways. Many of our people down here worship the mechnics. So it would be quite useful to have one such as yourself... as well as one who has knowledge of the inner workings of Nocturnus. But I get ahead of myself... first you and your wife come sit and have some mead, plenty of time to talk business later.... And might I say that is a mighty fine ship. I too have shipwrights currently working on several vessels - so I have a new found appreciation all things that sail... Saladus I do not believe Xander is defecting - he has stated his intention to join us many moons and pages ago. I suspect he just simply travelled abroad after Magik school to find himself ;) Dugal my friend, quite the lofty dreamer. I had plans of multiple consulates across our neighbours - but alas the sands of time are against me, and I worry if I can even erect one... But as for your specific problem - trees would be difficult, several options are presented already. might I suggest maybe no leaves? Throughout my travels, I have encountered some tress up in the north where the leaves have long fallen. And the trees are simply snow covered branches. Hardiel M'lad! Thanks for the update (and good luck in your classes). It is good that our various mummy clans are getting along. I know Rasputin would be happy to hear that production of more glass facilities are being well staffed! Lord Damaximus I look forward to seeing your grand city. Yes these are troubling times. While there is threat of war, rest assured as long as the High King sits on the throne, peace shall ensue. Those that cross the High King not only do they face the wrath of the attacked... but also the High King's army. ahahahah sing your way to the victory ;) Lord Shane, It is appreciated that you send in your personal Bard, but I can not allow you to risk your musician on such a folly. Instead I have instructed my master of arms to unleash Celine Deafon and Beiber the Monkey Released from the darkest mines of Kaliphlin, the most dangerous woman alive is unleashed for ONE NIGHT ONLY. To do battle in the Guilds of HIstorica Gladiatorial Games Armed with only her deadly and annoying singing voice she will use her siren screech to take down all who stand before. Her trusted cymbal playing monkey stands by her side and keeps time. TIME OF DEATH.

I not sure if I trust the drow to ensure that no causalities in their ring...

While it was promised that no fatalities may come... I not sure if I trust the drow to ensure that no causalities in their ring... My Lord Dextrus, I hope you can keep this under the sand, or so to speak, but there is another reason I am sending Ignacio the bard to the drow games. I recently heard he has been... intimate with my third wife. This is, naturally, unacceptable. I trust this information will not fall in the wrong hands. In other news, our Embassy in the Nocturnus' swamplands is nearing completion, we hope to unravel it this week!
Basiliscus Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 Good work guys! Some fantastic WIP entries already. It looks like a strong round for us! I am having a combination of real-life interference and builders block, so I am giving the embassy challenge a miss! I was struggling to come up with something original. I am hoping to finish the free-build that I've been sitting on since December soon, and get some other free-builds in! Good luck

I am sailing to find not only myself but adventure as well. I think I should be able to find some adventure in Kaliphlin. My crew and I are ready to sail for work, adventure and if the time should come the defense of Kaliphlin (that Doomsphere on the front packs a punch).

To do battle in the Guilds of HIstorica Gladiatorial Games Is it too bold to say that I'm worried about Lord Flagg's mental Stability? But let's face it, nobody's more insane than I. Great work on the embassies everyone! Sadly, I was unable to join you this round due to time constraints...
CptMugwash Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Unfortunately I too am suffering from builder's block, I keep changing my mind about the embassy and am struggling for something original, the deadline is creeping closer and closer now. What should I do, should I just churn out something that looks alright or give it a miss? I think adding to the point count should be worth building something though, what do you guys think?
